USB Device Server Megabit - 2x USB 2.0

Extend USB Devices over the Network with the USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0 from Wiesemann & Theis

The USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0 from Wiesemann & Theis is a versatile and industrial-grade solution for integrating USB devices such as dongles, printers, scanners, or measurement equipment into networks via TCP/IP Ethernet. With two USB 2.0 ports that behave like locally connected devices, the USB server offers flexible usage options—from network-based extension to shared access by multiple users. Thanks to USB redirection, support for all USB modes (Control, Bulk, Interrupt, Isochronous), Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), and optional galvanic isolation, the device is ideal for Industry 4.0, virtual environments (VMware, HyperV, VirtualBox), and applications in measurement and automation technology. This article highlights the technical features, applications, and benefits of this powerful USB network integration solution.

Seamless USB Integration via Network

The USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0 allows integration of up to two USB devices (or up to eight via an external USB hub) into a TCP/IP network, making them behave as if directly connected to a Windows or Linux PC. USB redirection deeply integrates virtual USB ports into the operating system’s plug-and-play system without requiring changes to existing software. This makes the USB server the perfect solution for virtual environments such as VMware, HyperV, or VirtualBox where physical USB ports are unavailable, or as a replacement for local USB ports. Support for all USB modes ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices.

Share and Use USB Devices Remotely

With the USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0, USB devices such as dongles, printers, or scanners can be shared over the network and used simultaneously by multiple users. For example, a valuable software dongle can be securely placed in the server room and accessed via the network. Simultaneous connection of two PCs is also possible, increasing flexibility. The automatic reconnect function after network disruptions ensures uninterrupted communication.

Virtual Environments and Line Driver

The USB server is especially suitable for virtual environments as it integrates real USB devices into virtual machines without the problematic passthrough of host-side USB ports. USB redirection allows operation of devices without user login, simplifying use in server-based environments. As a line driver, the USB server can operate USB devices virtually without distance limits from the host PC.

Galvanic Isolation and Robust Hardware

The USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0 features two USB 2.0 ports, each capable of delivering up to 500 mA, and an Ethernet interface (100BaseT) with autosensing and auto-MDIX. Up to eight USB devices can be connected via an external USB hub. The robust design makes the device ideal for industrial environments. Power is supplied via Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) or external supply (24–48V DC).

Easy Setup and Management

Setup of the USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0 is simple using the WuTility software. Configuration is performed via web-based management, while DHCP support simplifies network integration. Remote configuration allows device management from any network location.

Please note: No power supply is included in the delivery.

Comparison with Other USB Network Solutions

Compared to other USB network adapters, the USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0 offers a comprehensive solution that does not require compatible device lists, since all USB modes are supported. Deep kernel integration, galvanic isolation, and robust communication distinguish this device.

Versatile Application Possibilities

The USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0 is designed for use in Industry 4.0, automation technology, and IT environments. In IT, it enables sharing of dongles or printers. In measurement technology, it integrates USB-based measuring instruments. In automation, it supports the connection of card readers or control devices.

Durability and Reliability

The USB Device Server Megabit – 2x USB 2.0 is designed for continuous operation and comes with a five-year warranty. Its robust hardware and standards-compliant construction make it ideal for industrial environments.
