GX-CFC: HFC Leak Detection Sensor

GX-CFC Refrigerant Sensor: Early Leak Detection for HVAC and Heat Pump Systems

In an era where energy efficiency and environmental protection go hand in hand, the GX-CFC sensor from Elektrotechnik Schabus GmbH & Co. KG is the invisible guardian for your cooling and climate systems.

This highly precise external gas sensor is specially designed to detect even the smallest releases of fluorinated refrigerants (HFCs, HFOs) in real-time – long before they lead to costly failures, performance losses, or environmental damage.

Whether in modern heat pumps, split air conditioners, or commercial refrigeration systems: the GX-CFC continuously monitors the surrounding air and sounds an alarm as soon as critical ppm levels are exceeded.

Thanks to its intelligent resistance measurement (Rs/Ro) referencing 5,000 ppm R-32, it delivers reproducible, reliable results – precise enough for professional use, simple enough for daily operation. Made in Germany, it not only meets the highest technical standards but actively supports compliance with the EU F-Gas regulation. With the GX-CFC, you invest in sustainability, operational reliability, and cost control – a sensor that does more than just measure: it protects your system, the environment, and your wallet.

The GX-CFC technology is based on decades of experience in gas measurement technology and sets new standards in leak detection.

It reacts highly selectively to all common fluorinated refrigerants such as R-22, R-32, R-404A, R-410A, R-407C, R-1234yf, R-1234ze, R-454B and even R-290 (propane in A2L/A3 classification).

This wide coverage makes it the universal companion for modern, environmentally friendly refrigerants with low GWP values. The measurement is done via a sensitive semiconductor element that detects changes in resistance in real-time and forwards them to the connected gas alarm devices GX-A1 or GX-HS. The plug-and-play connection via RJ plug guarantees error-free, instant installation – no calibration, no complicated settings.

The sensor is approved exclusively for dry, non-explosive indoor areas and is supplied with a 2.5 m cable, mounting materials, and detailed instructions. Elektrotechnik Schabus has created a system here that not only reacts but acts preventively: early detection reduces repair costs, prevents downtime, and minimizes the emission of climate-damaging gases. In an industry where every leak counts, the GX-CFC is your reliable partner for long-term efficiency and regulatory compliance.

The GX-CFC is more than an accessory – it is the intelligent extension of your gas monitoring system that makes the difference between “working” and “optimally protected.”

Combined with the GX-A1 (surface mount) or GX-HS (DIN rail) alarm devices, it creates a closed safety network that not only warns but intervenes actively.

As soon as a leak is detected, the system triggers alarms, switches magnetic valves, and informs the building management system. The high selectivity of the sensor avoids false alarms caused by foreign gases, while its energy-efficient design minimizes power consumption.

Whether in private heat pumps, commercial cold storage, or data centers with precision cooling – the GX-CFC adapts flexibly and grows with your requirements. Regular functional checks are easy to perform, and the robust construction guarantees years of reliability. With this sensor, you not only fulfill legal requirements but also make a clear commitment to responsible resource management. The GX-CFC: small in size, big in impact – the smart solution for those who want to be certain.

The GX-CFC impresses with technical sophistication and practical features – overview:

  • High sensitivity: Detects leaks in the ppm range via resistance ratio Rs/Ro (reference: 5,000 ppm R-32).
  • Plug-and-play connection: RJ plug for GX-A1 and GX-HS – no calibration required.
  • Secure mounting: Includes 2.5 m cable, screws, plugs, and instructions – for wall or ceiling mounting.
  • Environmental & energy efficient: Supports EU F-Gas regulation, reduces GWP emissions and energy losses.
  • Made in Germany: Highest quality, durability, and service by Elektrotechnik Schabus.
  • Dry room suitability: Only for non-explosive indoor areas – with clear safety guidelines.

Application Areas: Where the GX-CFC is indispensible

The GX-CFC guarantees operational safety and environmental protection in numerous technical fields:

  • Heat pumps (air/water, brine/water): Monitors R32, R410A or R454B in residential and commercial buildings – prevents performance drops due to leaks.
  • Split & multisplit air conditioners: Detects R-32 or R-1234yf in offices, hotels, or server rooms – protects against expensive refilling.
  • Commercial refrigeration systems: Controls R-404A or R-407C in supermarkets, cold storage, and logistics centers.
  • Data centers & precision cooling: Secures high-performance cooling with minimal risk – for 24/7 operation.
  • Industry & production: In manufacturing halls with process cooling – meets occupational safety and environmental regulations.
  • Renovation & retrofitting: Ideal for existing systems with older HFCs such as R-22 – extends lifespan and saves costs.

With the GX-CFC, you choose preventive safety – before a leak becomes a burden. It perfectly complements your gas alarm devices and clearly demonstrates sustainability.

Easy integration, high reliability, and German quality make it the first choice for installers, facility managers, and operators. Order now and actively protect your system – with a sensor that does more than legally required. The GX-CFC: small, smart, and indispensable.

Compatible with:

  • Gas Alarm GX-HS
  • Gas Alarm GX-A1+

Scope of delivery:

  • Gas sensor GX-CFC with 2.5 m sensor cable
  • User manual
  • Mounting material (screw and plug)

Safety instructions:

  • Before mounting or commissioning the device, carefully read the user manual.
  • Installation must be carried out by a qualified professional.
  • Packaging material is not a toy. Keep it away from children.
  • Do not open the device; it contains no parts that require user maintenance.
  • Frequent and high gas concentrations reduce sensor sensitivity over time and shorten its lifespan. Never expose the sensor to pure refrigerant gas!

Intended use

The GX-CFC gas sensor is designed for fluorinated refrigerants such as R32, R-1234yf, R22, R404a, and R410a and is used as an accessory for the GX gas alarm devices in our product line.

The sensor is intended for use in dry rooms only.

The sensor must not be installed in explosive atmospheres. The device is not approved for any use other than the one described above.

Locations where the sensor must not be installed

  • Places that could prevent alarm activation in case of gas release (e.g., behind curtains or inside cabinets)
  • Directly above stoves or combustion sources or above sinks
  • Near doors, windows, ventilation, fans, heaters, etc.
  • Areas where dust or dirt may impair sensor operation
  • Areas with consistently high standard gas concentration

CFC or HFC?

The naming refers to the use in air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and means "Climate Fluoro Carbons" (HFC in English, FKW in German).

As a pure type and trade name, it should not be confused with chlorinated CFC refrigerants.
