Firmware of Didactum Monitoring Devices
The firmware of Didactum Monitoring Systems forms the core of the devices and controls the communication between hardware and software. It is stored in the flash memory and can be updated if necessary. Firmware updates are essential to fix errors, close security gaps, and integrate new features or improvements.
Didactum regularly provides new firmware versions for the monitoring systems. Before each update, it is recommended to back up the current configuration and measurement data, as certain update methods may delete all settings and data.
The firmware update can be performed in two ways:
- Via the web interface: From certain versions onwards, the new firmware can be uploaded directly via the web GUI of the monitoring system. After uploading and restarting, the update is complete.
- Via USB stick: The firmware is copied to an empty USB stick. The monitoring system automatically detects and installs the update. This method is particularly suitable for older devices or very old kernel versions.
For devices with very old firmware, it is recommended to use a special update tool that resets the system to factory settings. A downgrade to an older firmware version is also possible if necessary.
Companies with many devices benefit from the Didactum Manager, which allows firmware updates to be rolled out centrally and automatically to numerous systems.
Regular firmware updates ensure a secure, stable, and feature-rich operation of Didactum Monitoring Systems.

When updating the firmware of Didactum monitoring devices, there are several important points to consider to ensure a safe and successful process. First, you should always back up the current device configuration and measurement data. This is especially important because some update methods, such as using the Firmware Update Tool, can irreversibly delete all settings and data.
The firmware update can be carried out in different ways. For current devices, it is recommended to update via the web interface. To do this, select and upload the firmware file under "System Menu" in the "Firmware" section. After uploading, the system restarts and the new firmware is active. For older devices or systems with a very old kernel, the update can be performed via USB stick. The firmware file is copied to an empty USB stick, which is then connected to the device. The update starts automatically and the progress is indicated by LEDs on the front of the device.
After each update, it is recommended to check the new firmware version as well as the kernel version in the web interface. In addition, the previously backed up settings should be re-imported. Before each update, carefully read the included readme file and preferably use up-to-date web browsers such as Firefox or Chrome.
