The Schabus SHT 5015 is a handcrafted mini float switch made entirely of V2A stainless steel (material 1.4301). The shaft is turned and milled from solid material, and the float body is made of stainless steel sheet. The switching contact activates at a liquid level of approximately 4 cm and is therefore suitable for level monitoring in tanks, cisterns, wells, shafts and pump sumps.
The smooth stainless steel surface is easy to clean and reduces the adhesion of residues. V2A is resistant to weak acids, alkalis and many cleaning agents. The float switch is therefore particularly suitable for food and other media against which stainless steel is resistant, and for all liquids with a density of at least 0.7 g/cm³, for example water, heating oil, diesel, vegetable oil or lubricating oils.
The integrated changeover contact (SPDT) provides both normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) contacts at the same time. It is not necessary to invert the float body; the desired function is simply connected electrically. The SHT 5015 is an accessory for the Schabus water detectors SHT 5000, SHT 5001 and SHT 5002.
Important note: Incorrect electrical connection can destroy the sensitive reed contacts and lead to malfunctions with personal injury or property damage. The SHT 5015 must not be operated directly on inductive or capacitive loads (e.g. relays, solenoid valves, PLC/PLS). For PLC inputs and logic circuits, Schabus offers active float switches.

How the SHT 5015 Is Constructed
The SHT 5015 consists of a float body on a stainless steel shaft with thread, the reed contact potted in the shaft, and a permanently connected control cable.
Float Body
The float body is made of rustproof V2A stainless steel sheet. Inside the float is a ring magnet. As the liquid level rises, the float moves upward on the shaft (stroke 7.6 mm) and actuates the reed contact. Overall dimensions are H = 55 mm × Ø 27.5 mm.
Shaft with Thread, Nut, Rubber Ring and E-Ring
The shaft (Ø 8.3 mm, length 62.8 mm) is solid-turned and milled from V2A stainless steel. The connection thread (M10x1) is also made of V2A. The float switch is mounted via thread, nut and rubber ring; the E-ring at the end of the shaft keeps the float on the shaft. Secure vertical mounting is possible with the matching mounting bracket (Art. No. 300787).
Reed Contact with Changeover Function
A high-quality Meder reed contact is located in the shaft, soldered to the cable and potted waterproof and vibration-resistant with Wepuran®. The changeover contact connects the common contact (COM) either to the normally open (NO) or the normally closed (NC) contact depending on the float position. Protection class is IP68.
LIYY Control Cable (3-core)
The cable (3 × 0.14 mm² LIYY/PVC) is 2.5 m long. It is only temporarily waterproof, flame-retardant, self-extinguishing and resistant to oils, greases, coolants and lubricants. The connection assignment can be found on the packaging label.

Mounting the Float Switch
- Always operate the float switch vertically; the maximum permitted deviation from the vertical axis is 30°. Only then can the float body slide freely and reliably on the shaft.
- For precise, vertical mounting on tank or shaft walls, the mounting bracket (Art. No. 300787) is suitable. It secures the position and prevents tilting.
- Do not block the float; it must remain freely movable. In shafts and outdoor areas, the dirt trap basket (Art. No. 300320) protects against leaves, sediment and small animals.
Connecting the Float Switch
- Take the connection assignment (COM, NO, NC) from the label on the packaging and pick up the desired switching function via the corresponding wire.
- Use only thin, unshielded LIYY control cable (max. 3 × 0.14 mm²). Total cable length max. 50 m per alarm line; when several sensors are connected in parallel, the cable lengths are added (e.g. 20 m + 30 m = 50 m).
- Never run cables parallel to 230 V mains cables. Route the LIYY cable in a dry environment or in a protective conduit, as it is only temporarily waterproof.
- Do not exceed the permissible switching capacity (max. 10 W, 25 V AC / 60 V DC / 500 mA).
Protection for inductive loads: For inductive loads, the float switch must be protected by an RC circuit (AC voltage) or a freewheeling diode (DC voltage, e.g. 1N4007). Recommended RC circuit for reed contacts (10 … 40 VA): AC 24 V, 100 Ω, 0.33 µF, type A 3/24.

Stainless steel, laser-cut, basket 88 mm high, Ø 58 mm. Prevents leaves or branches from restricting the free movement of the float. Not suitable for chlorine- or salt-containing media. Without float switch; please order separately.
LIYY Control Cable (Art. No. 300780)
Thin, unshielded control cable sold by the meter for proper extensions up to max. 50 m total cable length per alarm line.

The device is covered by the statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU. The manufacturer Elektrotechnik Schabus additionally offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. What does “changeover contact (SPDT)” mean?
The changeover contact connects the common contact (COM) either to the normally open (NO) or the normally closed (NC) contact depending on the float position. Both switching functions are available simultaneously; it is not necessary to invert the float. The signal is taken from the corresponding wire in the connection cable.
Can I reverse the switching function?
This is not necessary with the changeover contact. The integrated changeover contact always provides both switching functions simultaneously: normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO).
Is the SHT 5015 compatible with Schabus water detectors?
Yes, the mini float switch is an accessory for the Schabus water detectors SHT 5000, SHT 5001 and SHT 5002. Use only thin, unshielded LIYY control cable (3 × 0.14 mm²) with a total length of max. 50 m per alarm line.
For which media is the float switch suitable?
It is suitable for all liquids with a density of at least 0.7 g/cm³ (unpressurized), for example water, heating oil, diesel, vegetable oil or lubricating oils. Thanks to the stainless steel design, it can also be used in hygienically sensitive environments such as food processing. For aggressive media such as salt water or chlorine-containing pool and swimming pool water, the manufacturer recommends the V4A stainless steel version.
How is the float switch mounted?
Vertically, with a maximum deviation of 30°. Ideal is mounting with the matching mounting bracket (Art. No. 300787) so that the float body can slide freely and reliably on the shaft.
How much current and power can the switch handle?
The switching capacity is max. 10 watts (limit values 25 V AC / 60 V DC / 500 mA). The lower the switching power, the higher the service life: at < 5 V / < 1 mA, up to one trillion switching cycles are possible.
What do I need to consider for the electrical connection?
Incorrect connection can destroy the sensitive reed contacts and lead to malfunctions. No direct connection to inductive loads (e.g. relays, solenoid valves), no direct connection to capacitive loads (e.g. PLC/PLS) or cable lengths over 50 m, and the permissible switching capacity must not be exceeded. For inductive loads, protection with an RC circuit or freewheeling diode is required. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician or our support.
Can I connect the float switch to a PLC?
Not directly. The SHT 5015 must not be operated directly on capacitive loads such as PLC or PLS. For these applications, Schabus offers “active” water sensors and float switches.
Is the connection cable interchangeable or extendable?
The cable is permanently potted. As standard, a 2.5 m long LIYY cable (3 × 0.14 mm²) is supplied; special lengths are available on request. The cable can be extended with LIYY control cable (Art. No. 300780) up to a maximum total length of 50 m per alarm line. Our support will be happy to advise you.
Is the cable waterproof?
The LIYY cable is only temporarily waterproof, flame-retardant, self-extinguishing and resistant to oils, greases, coolants and lubricants. It is not suitable for permanent water contact and should be installed in a dry environment or in a protective conduit. The float switch itself is potted waterproof to protection class IP68.
How do I clean the float switch?
With a soft, damp cloth, without solvent-based cleaning agents. The float switch must remain free of contamination and freely movable; it must not be blocked.
How long is the warranty?
