The Schabus pump control SHT 227 is a 230 V intermediate plug that automatically switches on a connected 230 V pump as soon as the mini float switch detects a water level from approx. 4 cm. At the same time an acoustic alarm sounds and an optical indicator signals the change in water level.
The mini float switch detects the liquid level mechanically: as the water rises, the float lifts, and once the switching point is reached, the pump control switches on the connected pump. When the water level falls below the switching threshold and the float returns to its lower position, the pump continues to run for a continuously adjustable run-on time of 0 to 100 seconds and then switches off automatically. The alarm stops automatically. The actual switch-on height is determined by the mounting position.
Because the float switch works mechanically, it can in principle also detect non-conductive liquids. The SHT 227 is particularly suitable for wet environments and pump sumps and is the robust pump guardian for dirt, oil and heavy continuous duty: a real float switch instead of a sensitive fork sensor, without false alarms caused by dirt, algae or oil films. Once plugged in between the socket and the pump, it keeps the basement, tank or shaft dry.
Important note: For the variant without acoustic alarm, the SHT 228 is available. For pure moisture detection (drip water) see SHT 217 and SHT 218. For liquids other than water, use the float switch only with a pump suitable for the liquid and after clarifying material compatibility with the manufacturer. The intermediate plug must not be operated outdoors and must be protected from moisture, splash water and direct sunlight.

Automatically ready again
After the run-on time has elapsed, the device returns to standby mode on its own. No manual reset is required.
Sensor cable extendable

How the SHT 227 is constructed
The SHT 227 consists of the intermediate plug with Schuko plug, appliance socket with plug lock, status indicator, acoustic signal generator and setting wheel for the run-on time, as well as the mini float switch on the permanently connected sensor cable.
Schuko plug
With the Schuko plug, the pump control is plugged into a dry 230 V socket.
Appliance socket with plug lock
The pump plug is inserted into the integrated appliance socket. The plug lock secures the pump plug.
Status indicator (LED)
The status indicator shows the operating status optically: green = ready, red = switching point reached and pump on, flashing red = run-on time in progress.
Acoustic signal generator
The signal generator emits a loud warning tone when water is detected. It is present on the SHT 227, not on the SHT 228.
Coding switch (setting wheel) for the run-on time
With the setting wheel on the device, the pump run-on time is continuously adjustable between 0 and 100 seconds. Adjustment is made with the device unplugged.
Plastic mini float switch
The float switch detects the liquid level mechanically: as the water rises, the float lifts; at the switching point the pump is switched on. When the water level falls, the float returns to its lower position. The mounting position determines the actual switch-on height; the float must be able to move vertically and freely.
Sensor cable (LIYY, 2 × 0.14 mm²)
The cable is permanently connected to the device and is 2.5 m long. It is flame-retardant, oil-resistant and only briefly water-resistant. It must therefore not be laid permanently under water.
How the pump control works
The sequence consists of four phases and runs fully automatically.
Standby
The float is at the bottom, the pump is switched off, the status indicator lights green.
Water detection
The float reaches the switching point. The pump is switched on, the indicator lights red and a warning tone sounds.
Run-on (0 to 100 s)
The float returns to the bottom, the pump continues to run for the set time, the indicator flashes red.
Pump off
After the run-on time has elapsed, the pump switches off, the indicator lights green again and the device is automatically ready for operation once more. The alarm stops automatically.
Automatic operation / run-on time: The run-on time only starts when the sensor no longer responds. It does not limit the running time while the sensor is still active: as long as the float reaches the upper switching point, the pump remains switched on. Choose the run-on time so that the remaining amount of water can be pumped out without allowing the pump to run dry. Observe the operating instructions of the connected pump.
Mounting, commissioning and function test
Read the operating instructions carefully before mounting and commissioning. Mounting and settings are always carried out with the device unplugged.
Mounting the mini float switch
- Select the desired switch-on height, taking level and installation position into account.
- Align the float switch vertically. The float must be able to move freely up and down; keep a distance from walls and pipes.
- Secure the position with a suitable holder and lay the cable without tension. A matching mounting bracket made of V2A stainless steel is available as an accessory (Art. No. 300787).
Commissioning the pump control
- Set up the pump in accordance with its pump instructions.
- With the device unplugged, set the run-on time on the setting wheel, avoiding dry running of the pump.
- Insert the pump plug into the appliance socket and secure it with the plug lock.
- Plug the device into a dry 230 V socket. The status indicator lights green; then carry out the function test.
Carrying out the function test
- Before the test, ensure safe pumping conditions and prevent dry running of the pump.
- Carefully move the float upwards. At the switching point the pump starts, the indicator lights red and on the SHT 227 a warning tone sounds.
- Allow the float to return downwards. The set run-on time begins, the indicator flashes red.
- Wait for the full run-on time. The pump switches off and the indicator lights green again.
Check regularly: Carry out the function test after mounting and commissioning, after changes or cleaning, and for your safety at least once a month. After mounting, also check whether the pump starts at the desired water level. When water is detected the pump starts automatically: then check whether the water is being pumped out properly. If the water level continues to rise or the pump does not deliver, check the system in accordance with the pump instructions. In case of danger, disconnect the supply only from a safe, dry location.

The device itself has no options. Matching accessories are available for extension, mounting, protection and anti-theft protection.
LIYY control cable 2 × 0.14 mm² (by the metre)
For professional extensions up to max. 50 m total cable length per signalling line. Use only thin, unshielded LIYY cables; larger cross-sections can cause malfunctions.
Mounting bracket V2A (Art. No. 300787)
Recommended for precise, vertical mounting of the mini float switch on tank or shaft walls. Ensures reliable switching function and prevents tilting.
Dirt catch basket with mounting bracket (Art. No. 300320)
Protects the float switch from leaves, sediment and small animals; ideal for shafts, outdoor areas and rainwater systems. Not suitable for chlorine- or salt-containing media.
Anti-theft protection for socket devices
Reliably protects socket devices and intermediate plugs against unauthorised removal. Ideal for public areas, basements, garages or commercial installations.

- The device is operated on 230 V mains voltage; improper handling can lead to serious injury from electric current

- If necessary, clean the enclosure with a slightly damp, soft cloth; do not use aggressive cleaning agents or solvents (e.g. alcohol, petrol) and ensure that no moisture enters the device
- Do not immerse the device in water or other liquids; allow all parts to dry completely after cleaning
- Check and clean the mini float switch regularly: remove dirt with a damp cloth, wipe with clean water and dry
- Regularly check the device, sensor and cables for dirt and damage; the pump control is largely maintenance-free

Warranty, guarantee, service and disposal
The device is covered by the statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU. The manufacturer Elektrotechnik Schabus additionally offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. Repair and spare parts are available directly from the manufacturer, also beyond the statutory warranty. In the event of a warranty claim, a description of the fault, a proof of purchase and your full contact and delivery details are required. The device must have been used in accordance with the operating instructions; damage caused by improper use, modifications to the device, external influences or unauthorised repairs is excluded.
The device is marked with the CE marking and the WEEE marking and meets the applicable European requirements. It does not belong in household waste. In accordance with EU Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE), it must be collected separately at the end of its service life, e.g. at a municipal collection point for electrical appliances. Please also dispose of packaging materials in an environmentally friendly manner (WEEE Reg. No. DE91394868).

How does the SHT 227 pump control work?

Can the SHT 227 also detect other liquids?
Yes. Material compatibility of the float switch and suitability of the connected pump for the respective liquid must be clarified with the manufacturer before use.
Where must the mini float switch be mounted?

What is the adjustable run-on time for?
The run-on time allows the pump to continue running after the water level has fallen and the float has returned to its lower position. It is continuously adjustable from 0 to 100 seconds and helps to pump out remaining water. Choose the setting to suit the pump and application so that the pump does not run dry. As long as the float switch remains activated, the pump continues to run regardless of the run-on time.
What do the colours of the status indicator mean?
Green: the device is ready, the pump is off. Red: the switching point has been reached, the pump is running and on the SHT 227 a warning tone sounds. Flashing red: the float is at the bottom again, the run-on time is in progress and the pump continues to run for the set time.
Can I reverse the switching function by turning the float?
According to the manufacturer’s website, the switching function of the float switch can be reversed by turning the float body so that it can also be used as dry-run protection. Can I extend the sensor cable?
Yes. The supplied sensor cable is 2.5 m long and can be extended with an LIYY cable (2 × 0.14 mm²) to a total length of up to 50 m. The LIYY cable is only briefly water-resistant and must not be laid permanently under water.
What accessories are available for the SHT 227?

Can I operate the device outdoors?
No. The intermediate plug must not be operated outdoors and must be protected from moisture, splash water and direct sunlight. Plug it into a dry indoor socket.
How do I check the function of the SHT 227?
Carefully move the float upwards. At the switching point the connected pump must start, the indicator must light red and a warning tone must sound. Then allow the float to return to its lower position. After the set run-on time has elapsed, the pump must switch off and the indicator must light green again. Ensure safe pumping conditions during the test and avoid dry running. Check the function after commissioning and at least monthly.
Do I have to reset the device after pumping?
No. After the run-on time has elapsed, the pump control automatically returns to standby mode. A manual reset by disconnecting from the mains is not required in the normal pumping cycle.
How do I clean the pump control and the float switch?
First unplug the device from the mains socket. Clean the enclosure if necessary with a slightly damp, soft cloth, without aggressive cleaning agents or solvents. Ensure that no moisture enters the device. With the mini float switch, ensure that the float can move freely: remove dirt with a damp cloth, wipe with clean water and dry. Allow all parts to dry completely before plugging in again.
What should I do if no warning tone sounds?
Carry out the function test on the SHT 227. If no tone sounds during the test, please contact Schabus Support. On the SHT 228 this is normal, as it has no acoustic signal generator.
How long is the warranty?
The statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU applies. In addition, the manufacturer Schabus offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. Repair and spare parts are available directly from the manufacturer.
