The Schabus SHT 241 is a socket water detector with a mini float switch for monitoring water levels in pump sumps, drainage shafts, cisterns and similar areas. As soon as the float switch is activated by rising water, a loud acoustic alarm sounds and the status LED switches to red. The alarm comes directly from the device and is audible even through doors.
The float switch works mechanically, so the conductivity of the medium does not matter. The SHT 241 is particularly suitable for dirty water and for non-conductive liquids such as heating oil, diesel, vegetable oil and lubricating oil, where a fork sensor does not respond reliably. The density of the liquid must be at least 0.7 g/cm³. The float switch responds reliably from a minimum level of 4 cm.
The SHT 241 is simply plugged into a 230 V socket; there are no batteries. When the level falls below the switching point again, the alarm stops automatically and the LED lights up green again. No manual reset is required. The device has no options or variants.
Important note: The device must not be operated outdoors. The float switch must be mounted upright (cable pointing upwards) with a maximum deviation of 30°. For only occasional floor moisture, for example under a washing machine, the manufacturer recommends the SHT 240 with fork sensor instead.

How the SHT 241 is constructed
The system consists of the socket device and the permanently connected mini float switch.
Socket device with Schuko plug
The device is plugged directly into a 230 V socket and monitors the connected float switch.
Status LED
It lights up green during normal operation and switches to red in the event of an alarm.
Acoustic signal transmitter
The signal transmitter is located behind the ventilation slots in the device housing and emits a loud tone in the event of an alarm.
Sensor cable
The white LIYY cable is permanently connected to the device, 2.5 m long and extendable up to 50 m. It is only briefly water-resistant and not suitable for permanent use in water.
Plastic mini float switch
The float switches mechanically as soon as the medium reaches the switching level. It hangs upright on the cable, with the cable pointing upwards, and is mounted with a maximum deviation of 30°.
Mount the float switch correctly and put it into operation
Read the operating instructions thoroughly before installation and first commissioning and follow the safety instructions in particular. The device must not be operated outdoors.
Mounting the float switch
Position determines the alarm level
The height at which the float switch is mounted defines the water level height (minimum 4 cm) from which the SHT 241 should trigger an alarm.
Install upright
The float switch is mounted upright (cable pointing upwards) at a maximum angle of 30°. A suitable mounting bracket makes vertical fastening to tank or shaft walls easier.
With dirt basket
A dirt basket protects the float from leaves, sediments and small animals. It is not suitable for chlorinated or salt water.
If the float switch is to be fastened in a dirt basket, the cable is separated approx. 15 cm below the device and the float switch is pulled through the cover and nut. The cable is then reconnected to the device. Alternatively, the device and dirt basket can be ordered from the manufacturer, who mounts the sensor in advance. The socket device must never be opened in the process.
Commissioning step by step
- Mount the mini float switch upright at the desired location. Route the cable so that it cannot be damaged.
- Plug the SHT 241 into a 230 V socket.
- The status LED lights up green and indicates that the device is ready for operation.
Extending the sensor cable
If required, the sensor cable can be extended up to 50 m using a thin control cable of type LIYY with a maximum of 2 × 0.14 mm². To do this, the existing cable is cut and reconnected with terminals. Larger cross-sections increase the electrical capacitance of the cable and can lead to false alarms or faults. The cable must never be routed parallel to 230 V mains cables in order to avoid interference and safety risks. On request, the manufacturer can supply the device from the factory with the desired cable length.
How the SHT 241 reacts and how to check it
Normal operation
The status LED lights up green; the level is below the switching point.
Alarm
The float switch is activated, an acoustic and visual alarm is triggered, and the LED switches to red.
Reset
When the level falls below the switching point and the float returns to its initial position, the alarm switches off automatically.
Function test, recommended monthly
Actuate the float on the float switch by hand; the alarm then triggers immediately. Return the float switch to its initial position and the alarm switches off. The manufacturer recommends performing this test monthly for your own safety.
Cleaning and maintenance
Avoid the influence of moisture (splash or rain water), dust and direct sunlight on the device. Clean the device only with a dry linen cloth, which may be slightly dampened in case of heavy soiling. Do not use solvent-based cleaning agents.
The LIYY cable is only briefly water-resistant and not suitable for permanent use in water. In shafts and outdoor areas, the manufacturer therefore recommends a dirt basket.
SHT 241 or SHT 240?
The SHT 241 with float switch monitors a defined level and is suitable for dirty water as well as non-conductive liquids such as heating oil and diesel. For areas with only occasional water contact or floor moisture, for example under a washing machine or dishwasher, the manufacturer recommends the SHT 240 with fork sensor.

Warranty, guarantee, return and disposal
The SHT 241 is covered by the statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU. The manufacturer Elektrotechnik Schabus additionally offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. Repair and spare parts are available directly from the manufacturer, even beyond the statutory warranty. In the event of a warranty claim, the device is sent in with a description of the fault, proof of purchase as well as address and delivery address. The device must have been used in accordance with the operating instructions; there is no claim for damage caused by accident, misuse, modification or negligence.
Return: In the event of a defect, first contact the manufacturer and state the complete address as well as the reason for return. Within Germany, a free returns label is sent by e-mail. The device must be adequately packed; unpaid parcels will not be accepted, and unjustified returns that do not constitute a complaint will be charged subsequently.
