Water always finds the path of least resistance - and often exactly where you least expect it: under kitchen cabinets, behind the washing machine, around aquariums or along pipes. The Schabus Water Detector SHT 450 is a socket-mounted device for detecting surface water leaks. It detects moisture at any point along its sensor cable, even the smallest drops, and warns you before more serious damage occurs.

As soon as the sensor cable comes into contact with water, an acoustic and visual alarm is triggered and the “Function” LED lights up red. Once the cable is dry again, the alarm switches off automatically. There are no batteries: the SHT 450 simply plugs into a 230 V socket and is immediately ready for use.

The sensor cable can be laid conveniently, unobtrusively and over a large area. This allows you to cover the entire area reliably without having to search for the lowest point where water would collect.

How the SHT 450 is constructed

A 1 m long white LIYY control cable with a smooth surface starts at the socket device. This is followed by the sensor cable, which is clearly visible thanks to its black-and-white striped design.

Laying the sensor cable correctly

Lay the sensor cable flat, unobtrusively and also around corners, under furniture or along walls and pipes.

Notes on Cable Routing

• Never lay the LIYY cable parallel to 230 V lines in order to avoid interference and safety risks
• The LIYY cable is only briefly water-resistant and not suitable for permanent water contact or outdoor use without protection
• According to the manufacturer, the LIYY cable is flame-retardant, self-extinguishing, low-adhesion and largely resistant to oils, greases, coolants and lubricants
• When connecting several sensors in parallel, the cable lengths are added together, e.g. max. 20 m plus 30 m

Extending the cable and sensor cable

If required, you can extend the sensor cable up to 50 m or order the device directly from the factory with the desired cable length.

How to extend the sensor cable

1. Cut the existing white sensor cable.
2. Connect a LIYY cable (max. 2 × 0.14 mm²) using terminals.
3. Do not exceed the total length of 50 m.

The manufacturer recommends having the connection carried out by a specialist for longer cables or ordering the desired length directly from the factory. The black-and-white sensor cable can also be extended on request using the original sensor cable specially developed for this water detector. Extensions with other cable types are not possible, as function and safety would otherwise be impaired. Simply contact support for this.

Commissioning

1. Plug the SHT 450 into a 230 V~ / 50-60 Hz socket.
2. The “Function” LED lights up green; the device is ready for operation.
3. Lay the sensor cable flat in the area where water leaks could occur.

Behaviour in the Event of an Alarm

• As soon as the sensor cable comes into contact with water, an acoustic and visual alarm is triggered
• The “Function” LED lights up red
• The alarm switches off again as soon as the sensor cable has dried
• The sensor cable has a drying time of approx. 15 seconds

Test the function regularly

For your safety, the manufacturer recommends carrying out this test monthly.

1. Touch the sensor cable with a cloth soaked in water. The alarm is triggered immediately.
2. Remove the cloth from the sensor cable and briefly disconnect the device from the mains. The alarm switches off again.
3. Plug the device back in. The “Function” LED lights up green.

Cleaning and Care

• Avoid moisture from splash or rain water, dust and direct sunlight on the device
• Clean the device only with a dry linen cloth, which may be slightly dampened in case of heavy soiling
• Do not use solvent-based cleaning agents
• If necessary, wipe the sensor cable with a damp cloth

• Packaging material is not a toy and does not belong in children’s hands
• Do not open the device; it contains no user-serviceable parts

• All places of use are connected to the public low-voltage network
• The manufacturer is not liable for damage or losses resulting from the fact that no alarm signal is issued despite a water leak

Warranty, Guarantee, Returns and Disposal

The SHT 450 is covered by the statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU. Manufacturer Elektrotechnik Schabus additionally offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. Repair and spare parts are available directly from the manufacturer, even beyond the statutory warranty. The prerequisite is that the device has been used in accordance with the operating instructions.

If your device is defective, please get in touch. For returns, the manufacturer requires a description of the fault, proof of purchase as well as your address and delivery address. Within Germany you will receive a free return label by e-mail. The device must be adequately packed; unpaid packages will not be accepted and unjustified returns will be charged subsequently.

The SHT 450 does not belong in household waste. The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on the product reminds you to use the take-back systems so that the materials can be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner at the end of their service life (WEEE Reg.
