The Schabus water sensor SHT 5009 detects escaping conductive water on soft floor coverings such as parquet, laminate, linoleum or carpet. It is also suitable for low-pile and velour carpet floors. Its three brass plate contacts are located on the underside of an impact-resistant, tough-elastic plastic housing. The robust housing is corrosion-stable and potted with Wepuran and is designed for permanent floor mounting.
The SHT 5009 is an accessory for the Schabus water detectors and is supplied with a permanently connected 2.5-metre LIYY cable. It is fixed with the contacts facing downwards. As soon as a conductive liquid electrically bridges the sensor contacts, the connected water detector evaluates this and triggers an alarm. The sensor itself operates passively and does not emit its own alarm.
Typical locations are living areas, kitchens, offices and utility rooms, for example on a laminate floor in front of a washing machine. For hard floors such as concrete, screed, stone or tiles, the SHT 5008 is the appropriate variant.
Important note: The SHT 5009 is intended for locations that are normally dry and is only suitable for conductive liquids. It is not intended for permanently wet environments. It must not be connected directly to a supply voltage or an electrical load, but only to a suitable sensor input of a water detector.
Good to know: Evaluation and the desired reaction are performed by the connected water detector. The sensor only provides the information “contacts dry” or “contacts wetted”. Check water detection after installation directly at the point of use.
Water detected, damage averted
The SHT 5009 combines three brass plate contacts with a robust, potted housing and a two-core cable that fits directly to the Schabus water detectors.
For soft floors
Intended for parquet, laminate, linoleum and carpet, including low-pile and velour carpet floors.

The plate contacts are located on the underside so that escaping water reaches them directly.
Impact-resistant and tough-elastic
The plastic housing is impact-resistant, tough-elastic and conditionally tread-resistant.
Corrosion-stable potting
The Wepuran potting in the plastic housing ensures safety and longevity and is designed for permanent floor mounting.
Two-core cable
The two-core connection cable fits directly to the two-pole sensor input of the Schabus water detectors.
2.5-metre cable, extendable
The cable is permanently connected and can be extended to a total length of up to 50 m. Special lengths are available on request.
Stable hold
An aluminium-reinforced fixing hole ensures stable hold; screw and wall plug are included.

The LIYY cable is temporarily water-resistant, flame-retardant, low-adhesion and self-extinguishing, and largely resistant to oils, greases, coolants and lubricants (manufacturer’s specification).
How the SHT 5009 is constructed
Contacts, connection cable and housing form a potted unit. The device contains no parts that you need to service and must not be opened.
Impact-resistant plastic housing
The tough-elastic, round housing is potted with Wepuran. It is compact and conditionally tread-resistant.
Top side (“Front”)
The top side faces upwards. Here you will find article number 300720 and the device identification.
Underside (“Back”) with three brass plate contacts
The three brass plate contacts are located on the underside. When installed they face downwards towards the floor and must not be covered. Conductive water that bridges the contacts is evaluated as water by the water detector.
Aluminium-reinforced fixing hole
In the centre between the contacts is the fixing hole for the screw. The aluminium reinforcement ensures stable hold.
Permanently connected two-core cable
The white LIYY cable is 2.5 m long, permanently potted and has two cores (brown and white) of 0.14 mm² each. It is connected to the designated sensor input of the water detector.
How the SHT 5009 detects water
The sensor operates passively. Evaluation is performed by the connected water detector.
Contacts dry
There is no conductive connection between the contacts. The water detector evaluates “no water”.
Contacts wetted
A conductive liquid bridges the contacts. The water detector evaluates “water detected” and triggers the configured reaction.
No own alarm
The sensor itself does not generate an acoustic warning signal. Alarm and indication come from the water detector.
Resistance measurement
The Schabus water detectors operate as impedance or resistance measuring devices and evaluate the connection between the contacts.
Correct placement, fixing and connection
Choose the mounting location so that escaping water can actually reach the contacts.
Floor mounting
- Check the mounting point. Take account of cables and seals in the substrate and choose a suitable fixing method.
- Select the location where escaping water is expected first, for example in front of or under a washing machine.
- Mount the sensor with the contacts facing downwards. Seal the drill hole professionally if necessary.
- Do not cover the contacts. Water must be able to reach them unhindered.
- Route the cable safely: protected against crushing, tension and sharp edges, with connections that are secured against moisture.
- Do not run the cable parallel to 230 V mains cables.
Connection
- Identify the water detector (SHT 5000, SHT 5001 or SHT 5002). The connection terminals are given in its operating instructions.
- Connect the two-core cable to the designated sensor input.
- Carry out extensions and connections suitable for the respective environment and observe the device-specific requirements.
- Test the entire detection chain: water detection, indication, acoustic alarm and intended subsequent function.
Notes on the cable
- Use thin, unshielded LIYY cable, max. 2 × 0.14 mm²
- Up to 50 m total cable length per detection line is possible; the existing 2.5 m are included
- The cable is only temporarily water-resistant
- Do not run parallel to 230 V; this can lead to interference and electromagnetic influences. Use separate cable ducts or maintain sufficient distance
- Additionally observe the requirements of the connected water detector
Commissioning
- Carry out a visual inspection: check fixing, cable and seal; contacts must be clean.
- Deliberately wet the contacts at the actual mounting location with water. The test must show that water really reaches the contacts.
- Observe the reaction: indication on the water detector and intended subsequent function.
- Restore the normal condition: dry contacts and floor, check reset and any required acknowledgement on the water detector.
Manufacturer’s notes
- Read the instructions for the sensor and the instructions for the connected water detector and keep both
- Work on mains voltage may only be carried out by qualified electricians; isolate and verify absence of voltage beforehand
- Never connect low-voltage models to mains voltage
- Do not connect passive water sensors directly to a supply voltage or an electrical load
- Use only for conductive liquids and environments that are normally dry
- Do not continue to use damaged cables or housings
- Do not open potted components
- Keep packaging material away from children
- Always carry out a full functional test after installation, connection or modification
- Repairs and maintenance may only be carried out by the manufacturer or authorised specialist personnel
What the SHT 5009 does not do
- The sensor only detects water at the contacts that it reaches. For larger areas further sensors are advisable
- It is not a level sensor. For continuous monitoring of a liquid level use a suitable float switch
- It is not intended for permanently wet environments; the connection cable is only temporarily water-resistant
- It has no own alarm; warning and subsequent function are performed by the water detector
- It only detects conductive liquids
- For hard floors such as concrete, screed, stone or tiles the SHT 5008 is intended
Clean, check, find faults
Cleaning and re-checking
- Clean with a soft, damp cloth
- Do not use solvent-based agents
- Remove deposits and dry contacts and mounting surface
- Repeat the functional test after cleaning, changes to the mounting or connection work
Troubleshooting
No reaction?
Check that model, connection and sensor input are correct and that the contacts are actually being wetted.
Indication remains?
Check for residual water or deposits on the contacts or whether the indication on the water detector still needs to be acknowledged.
Unexpected indication?
Check connections for moisture and the cable routing.
If the fault persists, put the system into a safe state and contact Schabus Support.
In the event of a service case
- Get in touch and describe the fault as precisely as possible: what happened, when does it occur and what indication does the device show?
- The manufacturer will review your enquiry and advise the next steps. Many questions can be clarified by telephone or e-mail.
- After consultation, prepare the return: pack breakage-proof, enclose a fault description, contact details and a copy of the purchase receipt.
The manufacturer cannot accept unstamped consignments.
Warranty, guarantee and disposal
The SHT 5009 is covered by the statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU. The manufacturer Elektrotechnik Schabus additionally offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. Repair and spare parts are available directly from the manufacturer, even beyond the statutory warranty.
The device bears the CE marking. The full EU declaration of conformity can be requested from the manufacturer or downloaded from the website.
The SHT 5009 does not belong in household waste. In accordance with Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE) the device must be collected separately at the end of its service life and sent for environmentally sound recycling, for example via a municipal collection point for electrical equipment (WEEE Reg. No. DE91394868). Further information is available from your town or municipality.

Are the cables waterproof?
The LIYY cables used are only temporarily water-resistant and not suitable for permanent water contact. The SHT 5009 is not intended for permanently wet environments. For continuous level monitoring use a suitable float switch.
Why must the LIYY cables not be run parallel to 230 V mains cables?
Running them in parallel can lead to interference, electromagnetic influences and, in the worst case, safety risks. Use separate cable ducts or maintain sufficient distance.
How do I test and clean the sensor?
Wet the contacts at the actual mounting location and check the reaction of the water detector as well as the intended subsequent function. Clean the sensor if necessary with a soft, damp cloth without solvent-based cleaning agents, remove deposits and dry contacts and mounting surface. Repeat the functional test after cleaning, changes to the mounting or connection work.
What to do if the sensor does not react or the indication remains?
If there is no reaction, check that model, connection and sensor input are correct and that the contacts are really being wetted. If the indication remains, check for residual water, deposits and acknowledgement on the water detector. In the event of unexpected indications, check moist connections and the cable routing. If the fault persists, put the system into a safe state and contact Schabus Support.
Are there options or additional variants?
No. The SHT 5009 has no options. With cable and mounting material it is complete.
How long is the warranty?
The statutory warranty of at least 2 years applies in the EU. In addition, the manufacturer Schabus offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online.
