The Schabus SHT 5000 – 230 V is an installation device for monitoring up to four independent detection zones for water ingress or leaks. When a connected sensor comes into contact with water, it triggers an optical and acoustic alarm and simultaneously switches a potential-free relay contact, for example for connection to building technology, alarm systems or external signal devices.

One or more water sensors or mini float switches can be operated on each detection line. This makes the SHT 5000 ideal for basements, laundry rooms, technical rooms, cisterns, pump sumps, flat roofs and industrial plants. A 9 V block battery can bridge short power failures.

The SHT 5000 is supplied without sensors; connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

How the SHT 5000 works

In normal operation the device monitors all detection lines and switches the relay in the event of an alarm.

Matching sensors and extensions

Use only original Schabus sensors and accessories. All Schabus water sensors and mini float switches with normally open contact can be connected.

For conductive liquids

• Water sensors for regularly dry environments react even to a thin film of water
• The conductivity of the water must be below approx. 80 kΩ
• Not suitable for distilled or highly demineralised water

Mount, connect, test

All work on the 230 V mains may only be carried out by an authorised electrician.

Mounting

1. Loosen the 4 screws of the housing front (Phillips PH2) and carefully remove the cover.
2. Securely fasten the housing to the wall via the side mounting holes (4 screws 4 × 35 with seals). The piercing membranes must face downwards.
3. Optional: connect a 9 V block battery and observe polarity. Ensure a firm, dry and vibration-free surface.
4. Insert the seal into the lower housing shell and close the housing. Do not overtighten the screws.

Connection

1. Connect the mains supply 230 V AC / 50–60 Hz (L, N, PE). Recommended: NYM 3 × 1.5 mm². The connection cables must be permanently installed as surface-mounted cable.
2. Connect the sensors with LIYY 2 × 0.14 mm² to Sensor 1 to 4. A maximum total cable length of 50 m is permitted per detection line; when connected in parallel the lengths are added (for example 20 m + 30 m). Exceeding this can lead to false alarms.
3. Route sensor cables separately from mains cables with a minimum distance of 10 cm.
4. If required, connect the potential-free relay output (recommended NYM 3 × 1.5 mm², max. 5 A) and reinsert the mains connection protective cover.

Commissioning

1. Press the TEST button. All alarm LEDs of Sensors 1 to 4 must light red and an audible alarm must sound.
2. Press RESET once to deactivate the acoustic alarm.
3. Check each connected sensor by simulating water contact. The alarm is triggered immediately.

Manufacturer’s notes

• Read the operating instructions before installation and commissioning and keep them
• The device is only suitable for 230 V AC / 50–60 Hz; disconnect the power supply before working on the device
• Not suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres
• Ensure a suitable mounting position and free sensor surface
• Regularly check cables and sensors for damage
• Damaged or excessively long sensor cables can impair function
• Keep packaging material away from children
• Do not allow children or persons with reduced capabilities to use the device without supervision or instruction

Maintain, clean, find faults

Regular checks

• Carry out a function test at least once a month
• Check sensors for dirt and clean with a damp cloth if necessary
• Check supply lines and connections, verify alarm function
• Clean the housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth; do not use aggressive cleaning agents or solvents
• Replace the battery when the Battery LED flashes: open the housing, unplug the old battery, connect the new one, observe the seal

Troubleshooting

Work on the device may only be carried out by qualified specialist personnel; switch off the power supply beforehand.

In the event of a service case

1. First check the troubleshooting notes.
2. If the problem persists, note the article number, fault description and circumstances and contact support.
3. Only return devices after prior arrangement and enclose the proof of purchase, fault description and contact details.

The SHT 5000 is covered by the statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU. The manufacturer Elektrotechnik Schabus additionally offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. Repair and spare parts are available directly from the manufacturer, even beyond the statutory warranty. The device bears the CE mark; the EU declaration of conformity is available for download from the manufacturer.

The device does not belong in household waste. In accordance with Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE) it must be collected separately at the end of its service life, as must empty batteries (WEEE Reg. No. DE91394868).
