The Schabus CO alarm GX-C1pro is a plug-in device (230 V) for the early detection of dangerous carbon monoxide concentrations in living spaces. It is simply plugged into a socket at mid-room height and is ready for operation after about 5 minutes of initialisation time.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is colourless, odourless and tasteless, arises from incomplete combustion and can already be life-threatening in low concentrations. The GX-C1pro detects CO with its electrochemical sensor and alarms in accordance with DIN EN 50291, loudly and acoustically with a piezo buzzer as well as optically with a red flashing LED. It already warns at a gas concentration that is far below the life-threatening value.
The device monitors carbon monoxide at combustion sites in apartments, houses, shops, small businesses, cafés and low-dust workshops, for example at gas boilers, gas heating systems, gas cookers, gas ovens, but also at oil heating systems and open fires. It is suitable for normal household use.
Important note: The GX-C1pro does not replace the proper installation, use and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances including the associated ventilation and flue systems. It must not be used in potentially explosive atmospheres and only indoors.
Good to know: The device tests the sensor and electronics when plugged in and then every 24 hours itself. A test with gas is therefore not necessary. You carry out the functional test of LEDs and alarm tone yourself using the test button; the manufacturer recommends this every six months.

How the GX-C1pro Is Constructed
Plug housing, sensor, electronics and alarm generator are combined in one device. It contains no parts that you need to maintain.
Plug Housing with Mains Plug
The light plastic housing carries the mains plug for the 230 V socket on the rear. The device hangs directly in the socket; cable and power supply unit are not required.
Ventilation Slots on the Housing
Via the slots in the housing the room air reaches the sensor. Therefore the device must not be operated behind curtains or in cupboards.
Electrochemical Sensor
Inside is the sensor that detects carbon monoxide. It is maintenance-free but is regularly checked automatically for function. On the underside of the housing is the date (month/year) of the next sensor test.
Display Panel with Three LEDs
On the device front three LEDs show the status: green “Operate” (operation), yellow “Error” (fault) and red “Alarm”.
Test Button
Next to the LEDs is the test button. With a short press you check the three LEDs and the alarm generator.
Piezo Buzzer
The integrated alarm generator emits the loud alarm tone. In the event of a fault it also reports with a short information tone.
How the GX-C1pro Warns
The alarm operates in several stages, from normal operation via pre-alarm to alarm.
Normal Operation
The green LED “Operate” lights. The device monitors the room air and tests itself every 24 hours.
Pre-Alarm
As soon as the GX-C1pro detects carbon monoxide, the concentration-dependent delay time starts. The “Alarm” LED flashes red; the buzzer remains silent.
Alarm
If the elevated concentration is present for longer than the delay time, the acoustic alarm sounds and the “Alarm” LED continues to flash.
Sensor Fault
If the device detects a fault, the yellow LED “Error” flashes or lights and the buzzer emits a short information tone every 30 seconds. This is not an alarm.
Position Correctly, Plug In, Test
The device must be correctly positioned depending on the gas source so that it functions properly.
Placement
- Choose the room in which the occupants spend the longest time, as close as possible to a sleeping place.
- Choose a socket that is as far as possible from a cooking area, at mid-room height or at nose height of the main occupancy position.
- Maintain a minimum distance of 30 cm from corners, edges, ceilings, floors and other devices as well as a distance of 1 to 3 metres from combustion sites.
These Locations Are Unsuitable
- Places that could prevent the alarm from being triggered in the event of a gas escape, for example behind curtains or in cupboards
- Directly above a cooker or a combustion site or above a washbasin
- Next to a door, windows, ventilation, fan, air conditioning and similar
- Areas in which dust, moisture or dirt can put the sensor out of operation
- In the immediate vicinity of the cooker
- Areas outside the intended temperatures or humidities, also with condensing moisture
- Potentially explosive atmospheres
Commissioning
- Plug the GX-C1pro into a 230 V socket. The green LED “Operate” lights up and the alarm tone sounds once briefly.
- Wait for the initialisation phase of about 5 minutes. After that the device is ready for operation.
- Press the test button briefly. This verifies the function of all three LEDs and the alarm generator.
- Repeat the test at regular intervals; every 6 months is recommended.
What You Should Do in the Event of an Alarm
Act calmly and consistently. With carbon monoxide the safety of all persons in the house is paramount.
- Do not unplug the warning device and remain calm
- Do not put any further electrical devices into operation
- Do not light any open flame and do not extinguish any open fire
- Immediately open windows and doors and thoroughly ventilate the room or the house
- Inform other persons in the house. All persons must leave the house
- Check the room or the house for possible sources of fire, because carbon monoxide also arises from the smoke of fires
- Eliminate the cause of the gas escape. In case of doubt contact your energy supply specialist
- In the event of a persistent or repeated alarm contact the energy supply specialist or the fire brigade

What the GX-C1pro Does Not Do
- It detects carbon monoxide. It does not specifically report other gases
- Due to its design the electrochemical sensor also responds to other gaseous media such as hydrogen or various sulphur compounds
- Aerosols (propellant gas in sprays for hair, disinfection and similar), strong tobacco smoke, for example from a smoking card game, and cooking fumes can lead to a false alarm
- It does not replace professional maintenance of fireplaces, ventilation and flue systems
- It is not intended for potentially explosive atmospheres and not for outdoor use
- You cannot test the sensor and electronics yourself. This is handled by the software in operation every 24 hours
- The sensor has a limited service life that depends on the environment. The date of the next sensor test is on the underside of the housing
Clean, Check, Find Faults
Check and Clean
- Carry out the test button every six months
- Clean the sensor regularly by blowing the dust off the device
- Keep moisture away from the device
- Clean the device only with a dry linen cloth; in case of heavy soiling it may be slightly dampened
- Do not use solvent-containing cleaning agents
- Avoid moisture (splash or rain water), dust and direct sunlight
- Keep an eye on the date of the next sensor test on the underside of the housing and send the device in good time to the manufacturer for the factory test
Troubleshooting
Yellow LED “Error” Flashes or Lights?
The device has detected a sensor fault; the buzzer emits a short information tone every 30 seconds. This is not an alarm. Contact the manufacturer.
Unexpected Alarm?
Check whether aerosols, strong tobacco smoke or cooking fumes could be the cause. In the event of an alarm nevertheless first ventilate and behave as described in the section “Behaviour in the Event of an Alarm”.
No Response When Plugging In?
Check whether the socket is live. When plugging in the green LED must light and the alarm tone must sound briefly.
