The Schabus water alarm SHT 5000 12-24V is a multi-function device for on-board networks and mobile systems. It is an installation device for monitoring up to four independent alarm zones and is operated directly on 12 V or 24 V DC. It is suitable as a professional water alarm for surface-mounted fixed installation on boats, yachts, motorhomes, trucks and in autonomous systems.
Water sensors and/or float switches can be connected to each of the four inputs. As soon as a sensor comes into contact with water, an acoustic alarm signal sounds, and via four LEDs you can identify the triggered alarm line. At the same time a potential-free relay switches. This allows connection to a BUS system (EIB) or external devices such as a flashing light, signal horn or GSM dialler.
The SHT 5000 12-24V is functionally identical to the 230 V version, but designed for DC voltage. It warns of unexpected water ingress, for example in the bilge, engine room, technical room, fresh water tank or sanitary room, and can additionally bridge short power failures with a 9 V block battery.
Important note: The water alarm is supplied without sensors. Water sensors or float switches must be ordered separately. Installation must be carried out by a qualified specialist, and the connection cables must be installed firmly as surface wiring.
Good to know: The SHT 5000 12-24V monitors four alarm lines simultaneously. Several sensors can be connected in parallel per line, also mixed from water sensors and float switches. Each input can be configured individually: with or without alarm memory, with or without tone.

Selectable Alarm Memory
Per input with or without memory function. Without memory the alarm ends as soon as the sensor no longer reports water, for example for level indication and pump control.
Tone Switchable per Input
The acoustic alarm can be switched on or off for each sensor input.
Battery Bridging
Can be fitted with a 9 V block battery to warn even during short power failures. Battery monitoring can be enabled.
Also for Non-Conductive Liquids
With mini float switches suitable for heating oil, diesel, vegetable oils, coolants and rainwater with low conductivity.

How the SHT 5000 12-24V Is Constructed
The device is housed in a light grey plastic enclosure with a removable front plate. At the front you see the indicators and buttons; inside are the connection terminals.
Housing with Front Plate
Four screws hold the cover. For wall mounting, loosen the screws and remove the front plate; if necessary, unplug the ribbon cable at the connector. The base shell is then fixed to the wall.
Four Sensor LEDs
On the front are “Sensor 1” to “Sensor 4”. As soon as a sensor detects a rising water level, the corresponding LED lights red. This shows you the triggered alarm line.
LEDs “Power” and “Battery”
The green LED “Power” indicates that operating voltage is present. The LED “Battery” reports when, with battery monitoring enabled, no battery is present or the capacity is too low.
Buttons “Test” and “Reset”
With “Test” you check LEDs and alarm generator. With “Reset” you end the functional test or deactivate the acoustic alarm and the relay output. For alarms with memory function you clear the indication with “Reset”.
Buzzer
The integrated piezo buzzer behind the speaker grille emits the acoustic alarm. Via the miniature switch on the buzzer the tone can be switched on and off per channel.
Connection Terminals in the Device
Inside are the terminals for the operating voltage 12-24 V DC (minus and plus), the terminals for the potential-free relay (S, G, Ö) and four pairs of terminals for sensors 1 to 4, to which water sensors or float switches are connected.
Relay, Fuse and Slot
The device contains the potential-free change-over relay, a fuse (T 5A) and a connection for the separately available relay plug-in card. Next to it is space for a 9 V block battery.
Miniature Switch with Ten Switches
Here you configure battery monitoring, alarm memory and tone. The functions of the individual switches are described in the “Settings” section.
How the SHT 5000 12-24V Warns
The sensor reacts to water contact at its two metal contacts, thereby closing the sensor circuit. The mounting height of the sensor determines from which level the water alarm gives an alarm.
Normal Operation
The LED “Power” lights green. The relay is energised in monitoring mode.
Alarm
The LED of the triggered alarm line lights red, the alarm sounds and the relay drops out.
Alarm with Memory
The alarm remains and the relay stays switched until you clear the indication with “Reset”.
Alarm without Memory
The alarm remains only as long as the sensor reports water. Suitable for level indication and pump control.
Power Failure
With an inserted 9 V block battery the LED “Power” goes out and the device continues to run in battery mode.
Battery Empty or Missing
With battery monitoring enabled the LED “Battery” flashes. Then insert a battery or replace it.
Which Sensors Fit
All Schabus water sensors and mini float switches with normally open contact can be used.

Mount Correctly, Connect, Test
Installation must be carried out by a qualified specialist.
Wall Mounting and Wiring
- Loosen the four housing screws on the cover, remove the front plate and if necessary unplug the ribbon cable at the connector.
- Fix the base shell to the wall with the enclosed mounting material.
- Route the connection cables firmly as surface wiring.
- Connect the operating voltage 12-24 V DC to the terminals provided for this purpose.
- Connect the sensors with a two-core cable (LIYY 2 × 0.14 mm², maximum) to the terminals Sensor 1 to 4. The total cable length must not exceed 50 metres per sensor input.
Route Cables Correctly
- Do not combine cables. Always use individual cables with 2 × 0.14 mm²
- When connecting in parallel do not wire the cables in the SHT 5000
- Instead run them with a single cable to a junction box and distribute there
- Cable lengths of several sensors per input add up, for example 20 m + 25 m = 45 m
- Example: Wired in parallel in the device only 4 × 12.5 m would be possible, via a junction box by contrast 1 × 34 m plus 4 × 4 m
Settings on the Miniature Switch
- Switch 1: Battery monitoring. In the delivery state ON (switched off). Set to OFF to switch on
- Switches 2 to 5: Memory function for Sensor 1 to 4. In the delivery state ON (switched on)
- Switch 6: No acoustic signal. In the delivery state OFF
- Switches 7 to 10: Buzzer for channel 1 to 4. In the delivery state ON (active)
Functional Test
- After installation press the “Test” button. All four alarm LEDs of the sensors must light red and an alarm must sound.
- End the functional test with the “Reset” button.
- Check each sensor: Touch both sensor contacts with a cloth soaked in water or with electrically conductive metal. The alarm triggers immediately.
- The functional test also works in battery mode. Repeat it regularly, because the manufacturer recommends checking the system regularly for function.
Control External Devices
The potential-free change-over relay switches on alarm. When connecting accessory devices, observe that the switching capacity must not be exceeded.
- In monitoring mode the relay is energised: normally open contact closed, normally closed contact open
- In alarm mode the relay drops out: normally open contact open, normally closed contact closed
- The relay is protected by a 5 A fuse
- Connection example: Alarm devices such as flashing light or magnetic shut-off valve that is closed in the rest state, with 12-24 V DC
- Controllable are for example solenoid valve, buzzer or siren, pump control, smart home adapter WWD 200 and wireless alarm module

What the SHT 5000 12-24V Does Not Do
- It detects water contact and water level changes at the connected sensor. Without a sensor it cannot report anything
- It does not prevent water damage by itself. Countermeasures such as pump or valve must be connected via the relay
- By default the housing is intended for indoor use. A version in protection class IP65 is possible on request; please contact us before ordering
- Per alarm line the total cable length must not exceed 50 m
- In salt water and other aggressive media corrosion-resistant sensors and regular maintenance are required
- For 230 V building networks there is the SHT 5000 in 230 V version
Clean, Check, Find Faults
Check and Clean
- Check the system regularly with the Test button and the sensor test
- Keep moisture (splash or rain water), dust and direct sunlight away from the device
- Clean the device only with a dry linen cloth; in case of heavy soiling it may be slightly dampened
- Do not use solvent-containing cleaning agents
- Replace the battery when the LED “Battery” flashes
Troubleshooting
LED “Battery” Flashes?
With battery monitoring enabled the battery is missing or its capacity is too low. Insert a battery or replace it.
LED “Power” Extinguished?
The power supply has failed. If a battery is inserted, the device continues to run in battery mode.
No Tone on Alarm?
Check on the miniature switch whether the buzzer for the respective channel is active (switches 7 to 10) and whether switch 6 is set to “no acoustic signal”.
Alarm Remains?
With active memory function the alarm remains until the “Reset” button is pressed. Without memory function it ends as soon as the sensor is dry.
If the fault persists, contact the manufacturer.

- Within Germany the manufacturer will send you a free return label by e-mail.
- Pack the device adequately. Enclose a fault description, proof of purchase as well as your address and delivery address (name, telephone number, street, house number, postcode, city, country).
The manufacturer cannot accept unfree parcels. Unauthorised returns that do not constitute a complaint will be charged subsequently. The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage or loss during shipping.
Warranty, Guarantee and Disposal
The SHT 5000 12-24V is covered by the statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU. In the event of material defects and quality deficiencies the manufacturer repairs or replaces the device free of charge provided it has been used in accordance with the operating instructions. The manufacturer is not liable for damage due to accident, misuse, alteration or negligence. In addition, Elektrotechnik Schabus offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. Repair and spare parts are available directly from the manufacturer, even beyond the statutory warranty.
The device bears the CE marking. The CE declaration can be found on the manufacturer’s website.
The SHT 5000 12-24V does not belong in household waste. The crossed-out waste bin symbol on the product reminds you to use the take-back systems so that the materials can be reused in an environmentally friendly manner at the end of the service life (WEEE Reg. Which sensors are compatible?

Yes. The smart home adapter WWD 200 can also be connected to the 12-24 V version. In the event of an alarm you receive a push notification on your smartphone via the Smart Life app.
Is the device weatherproof or suitable for outdoor use?
By default the housing is intended for indoor use. On request the manufacturer also produces the device in protection class IP65 for damp or dusty environments. Please contact the manufacturer before ordering.
Are there restrictions in marine use?
The SHT 5000 12-24V is fundamentally also suitable for damp environments and bilges. Ensure that the sensors are corrosion-resistant, for example float switches with plastic body. For aggressive media such as salt water the manufacturer recommends regular maintenance.
Are there options or additional variants?
No. The SHT 5000 12-24V has no options. Sensors, relay plug-in card, smart home adapter and signal devices are separate accessories.
How long is the guarantee valid?
