The Schabus GAS ALARM GX-B1pro is a gas detector designed as a plug-in device for town gas, natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). It already warns at a gas concentration far below the life-threatening level and is therefore set to high sensitivity. The sensor is built directly into the unit. You simply plug the gas alarm into a suitable socket – no installation or wiring is required.
In the event of danger, the GX-B1pro issues an acoustic warning with a loud alarm tone and an optical warning with a red flashing LED. It monitors gas heating systems, gas cookers, heating and utility rooms and is suitable for normal household use. After a warm-up time of approximately three minutes it is ready for operation.
Important note: The GX-B1pro is only approved for the described use. It must not be used in potentially explosive atmospheres and only in dry indoor areas. Always observe the prescribed position of the device and obtain information from your utility company about the gas type and its properties.
Good to know: Natural gas (methane) is lighter than air and rises upwards. Liquefied petroleum gas (propane and butane) is heavier than air, sinks to the floor, spreads there in a similar way to water and collects in depressions. The correct height of the gas alarm therefore depends on the type of gas. Natural gas and bottled gas can also always be recognised by their distinctive odour.

If a fault is detected, the yellow LED flashes and the sounder sounds every 30 seconds.

How the GX-B1pro is constructed
Sensor, electronics and sounder are housed compactly in a white plastic casing with a plug section. The device contains no parts that you need to maintain and must not be opened.
Housing with plug section on the rear
The housing protects the electronics. The plug section allows the gas alarm to be plugged directly into a socket, which also supplies it with power. Avoid moisture, dust and direct sunlight.
Integrated gas sensor
The sensor is located inside the device and monitors the room air. It responds at a gas concentration far below the life-threatening level.
Ventilation slots
Room air reaches the sensor through the slots in the housing. Keep them clear and regularly blow away any dust.
Green LED (Operate)
It flashes during the warm-up phase. Afterwards it lights continuously and indicates operation and monitoring.
Yellow LED (Error)
It flashes in the event of a fault, for example a device error.
Red LED (Alarm)
It flashes during pre-alarm and main alarm as long as gas is detected.
Test button
In monitoring mode you use it to check the LEDs and the acoustic sounder. In the event of an alarm it mutes the sound; the red LED continues to flash until no more gas is detected.
Acoustic sounder
The buzzer emits a loud tone in the event of an alarm, as well as when plugging in and during the test.
Correct placement and commissioning
The GX-B1pro may only be used in dry indoor areas and must be positioned correctly depending on the type of gas to ensure proper function.
Where the gas alarm belongs
- Town gas and natural gas (methane): A socket 15 to 30 cm below the ceiling, no more than 4 m from the gas appliance. The gas alarm must be located above the highest door or window opening in the room
- LPG (propane and butane): A socket 15 to 30 cm above the floor, no more than 4 m from the gas appliance
Where the gas alarm must not be operated
- In locations that could prevent the alarm from being triggered in the event of a gas leak, e.g. behind curtains or in cupboards
- Directly next to a cooker or above a sink
- Next to a door, windows, a ventilation opening, a fan or an air-conditioning unit
- In areas where dust or dirt could put the sensor out of operation
- In potentially explosive atmospheres
Commissioning
- Plug the gas alarm into a socket. The LED first lights up once in each colour and a short alarm tone is heard.
- The sensor now requires a warm-up time of approximately 3 to 5 minutes, during which the green LED flashes.
- Afterwards the green LED (Operate) lights continuously and the gas alarm is ready for operation.
- If an alarm is triggered immediately after the warm-up time (the LED flashes red), briefly disconnect the device from the mains and restart the warm-up time. This can occur after long storage or moisture during transport and may need to be repeated up to three times.
What the LEDs mean and how to test
Green flashing
Warm-up phase, the sensor is reaching its operating capability.
Green steady
Operation and monitoring. The gas alarm is ready.
Yellow flashing
Fault. The sounder also sounds every 30 seconds. Unplug the device and plug it back in; if the fault persists, contact the manufacturer.
Red flashing
Pre-alarm or main alarm. During the main alarm the acoustic sounder also sounds.
Function test
In monitoring mode you test the LEDs and the acoustic sounder with the test button. A simple functional check of the sensor is also possible with gas from a lighter: from a distance of 10 to 15 cm, briefly release a short burst of gas towards the lower ventilation slots without igniting the lighter. After approximately 30 seconds the gas alarm is triggered and the red LED flashes. Afterwards briefly disconnect the device from the mains and restart the warm-up time. The manufacturer recommends performing this test monthly.
What to do in the event of an alarm or gas odour?
Proceed in the following order:
- Do not unplug the gas alarm from the socket.
- Do not switch on any further electrical appliances.
- Do not light any naked flames and extinguish any open fires.
- Open windows and doors and thoroughly ventilate the room.
- Shut off the main gas supply and ensure that the cause of the gas leak is eliminated.
- In the event of a persistent or repeated alarm, contact your gas supplier or a qualified gas installation technician.
You can mute the alarm tone with the test button. This does not eliminate the danger; the red LED continues to flash until no more gas is detected.
When the sensitive sensor triggers without a gas leak
The sensor also responds to many other gaseous substances. Aerosols (propellant in sprays for hair, disinfection and similar), strong tobacco smoke such as from a smoking card game, cooking fumes and stored paint cans can lead to a false alarm.
What the gas alarm does not replace
- The GX-B1pro does not detect carbon monoxide (CO). You need a CO detector for that
- It is only approved for the described use, not for potentially explosive atmospheres
- It is intended for residential areas, sales areas and rooms of small businesses that are connected to the public low-voltage network
- The manufacturer is not liable for damage resulting from the fact that no alarm signal is given despite an elevated gas concentration
Cleaning, care and factory inspection

- Avoid moisture such as splash or rain water, dust and direct sunlight
- Clean the device only with a dry linen cloth, which may be slightly dampened in the case of heavy soiling
- Do not use solvent-based cleaning agents
- Regularly blow dust away from the sensor
- Do not open the device; it contains no parts that you need to maintain

For a comprehensive factory inspection of the sensor, observe the date (month/year) on the sensor. Then send the device to Elektrotechnik Schabus GmbH & Co. KG, Baierbacher Str. 150, D-83071 Stephanskirchen, Germany.

The GX-B1pro is covered by the statutory warranty of at least 2 years in the EU. The manufacturer Elektrotechnik Schabus additionally offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online. Repairs and spare parts are available directly from the manufacturer, even beyond the statutory warranty. The prerequisite is that the device has been used in accordance with the operating instructions.
The GX-B1pro does not belong in household waste. The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on the product reminds you to use the take-back systems so that the materials can be reused in an environmentally friendly manner at the end of their service life (WEEE Reg. Which gases does the GX-B1pro detect?

Do I have to install or wire the gas alarm?
No. The GX-B1pro is simply plugged into a suitable socket; the sensor is built into the device.

How do I test the GX-B1pro?

No. The GX-B1pro has no options; the sensor is integrated. If the socket is not at the correct height, the manufacturer offers the GX-B2pro (300926) with an external sensor as a separate device.
How long is the guarantee valid?
The statutory warranty of at least 2 years applies in the EU. In addition, the manufacturer Schabus offers a 5-year guarantee that can be registered online.
