SHT 5001 Water Detector – The professional DIN-rail unit with dual safety and extended range
When every meter counts, the SHT 5001 from Elektrotechnik Schabus is the professional-grade water detector for large installations. It features two fully independent detection lines, each with its own 5 A relay, a range of up to 300 m when used with float switches, integrated UPS function, and a 12 V alarm output – all housed in a compact 35 mm DIN-rail enclosure.
Whether in basements, flat roofs, data centers, underground car parks, or large technical rooms – the SHT 5001 provides reliable monitoring where standard detectors reach their limits.
The technology is uncompromisingly professional: two independent inputs (water sensors up to 100 m or float switches up to 300 m), each with its own alarm memory and relay, plus a 12 V/30 mA output for external sirens or building control systems. It operates either at 230 V AC or 12/24 V DC with automatic battery switchover – power failure? No problem. Reset via button or external contact. Built-in buzzer and LED for each line. Made in Germany – the standard for electricians, facility technicians, and building managers.
The SHT 5001 is the water detector that professionals rely on when simple plug-in devices are no longer sufficient. Electricians, property managers, and industrial clients use it because it simply works – even with 200 m of cable, power outages, or closed control cabinets. Once installed, it operates for years without maintenance and reliably reports before damage occurs.

Safety instructions
- Read the user manual carefully before installing or operating the device.
- Installation must be carried out by qualified personnel.
- Packaging material is not a toy. Keep it away from children.
Intended use
- The SHT 5001 is a water detector for permanent installation in a small distribution board or fuse box. It has two alarm lines, each connected to its own alarm relay, and two inputs per line for passive water sensors (AC) or mini float switches (DC).
- In case of an alarm, the red sensor LED lights up (input 1) or flashes (input 2), an internal buzzer sounds, the corresponding relay activates, and the alarm output (12 V / max. 30 mA) for connecting an external piezo driver or LED (e.g. control cabinet door indicator) is energized.
- An alarm memory can be set for each line via a jumper wire. Alarm acknowledgment is done internally via the RESET button or externally by closing a potential-free contact (e.g. external pushbutton, mini float switch, reset contact from GSM dialer, etc.). The TEST button checks alarm configuration by simulating “water” on both lines. Connected sensors and mini float switches are not tested during this procedure. The SHT 5001 operates with mains voltage from the public power supply and/or 12 / 24 V DC from external batteries or accumulators.
- DC inputs: The metallic contacts of a mini float switch never come into contact with water and therefore operate in DC mode. This enables long cable distances, limited only by cable capacitance (max. 10 nF) and resistance. Cable lengths up to 300 m with 2x 0.14 mm² LiYY cable have been successfully tested by Elektrotechnik Schabus, representing a major improvement over its predecessor, which supported only up to 50 m and required thicker cables.
- AC inputs: The metallic contacts of the water sensors come into contact with water. With the new SHT 5001, cable lengths up to 100 m at max. 2x 0.14 mm² are possible on the AC input, compared to only 50 m with the previous version.
