Precise Measurement and Control with the Web-IO 4.0 Analog 0-10V from Wiesemann & Theis

In modern industry and automation technology, the precise acquisition, transmission, and control of analog signals are crucial for optimizing processes and ensuring operational safety. The Web-IO 4.0 Analog 0-10V from Wiesemann & Theis is a versatile, network-capable device that offers two channels for analog 0-10V signals, which can be configured either as inputs or outputs. With an intuitive web interface, comprehensive network services, and protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, and REST, it is ideally suited for Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT). This article highlights the technical features, application possibilities, and benefits of this specialized device designed for remote monitoring, data logging, and network control.

Flexible Acquisition and Control of Analog Signals

The Web-IO 4.0 Analog 0-10V features two channels that can be configured as either voltage inputs or voltage outputs for 0-10V signals. As inputs, the channels support 0-10V signals with an input impedance of 1 MΩ, enabling connection to sensors such as light, temperature, or position sensors. As outputs, they provide precise 0-10V signals with a maximum current of 20 mA to control actuators like dimmers, motor controllers, or regulators. This flexibility makes the device ideal for applications such as process monitoring, machine data acquisition (MDA), and remote control, where analog signals need to be measured, transmitted, or generated. The user-scalable interactive display enables precise and customizable data acquisition.

Intuitive Operation and Network Integration

Operation of the Web-IO 4.0 Analog is extremely user-friendly thanks to an intuitive web interface that can be toggled between German and English. Users can monitor analog readings and trends directly in the browser and control outputs via direct input or socket commands. The interface is optimized for smartphones, allowing monitoring and control on the go. Support for HTTP and HTTPS ensures secure communication. Developers can access real-time measurements via HTTP requests, AJAX, or JavaScript to integrate the device into other websites or applications. The Box2Box function enables tunneling of analog signals over the network between two Web-IO devices, allowing the network to serve as an extension for analog signals. These connectivity options make the device ideal for network control in connected environments.

Flexible Alarm and Reporting Functions

The Web-IO 4.0 Analog offers comprehensive alarm and reporting capabilities. Up to 12 alarms can be configured, automatically triggered when defined thresholds are exceeded or input states change. These include email notifications for alerts or reporting purposes, SNMP alarms (SNMP traps V1, V2, V3), and switching outputs on another Web-IO. These functions are particularly valuable in critical applications such as remote monitoring or fault detection, where rapid response to signal changes is required. The ability to send reports via email supports documentation and analysis of measurement data, which is essential for audits and quality management.

Seamless Integration into Industry 4.0 and IoT

The Web-IO 4.0 Analog is optimally prepared for the demands of Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things. It supports modern protocols like OPC UA, REST, and MQTT, enabling easy integration into automation systems and IoT platforms. Additional interfaces such as SNMP V1, V2c, V3, Modbus TCP, OPC DA, Syslog, and Sensobase (database integration via ODBC) allow connection to existing systems and databases. Developers can access measurements via TCP and UDP sockets (client and server) to develop customized solutions. FTP support enables logging of measurement data, and integration with the W&T Cloud allows global documentation and access to data. These connectivity features make the device a future-proof solution for industrial and automated applications.

Powerful Data Logger for Measurement Data

The Web-IO 4.0 Analog includes a built-in data logger that records measurement values for a storage period from a minimum of 150 days up to a maximum of 99 years, depending on the selected storage interval (15 seconds to 60 minutes). Data can be exported in various formats such as FTP, Excel files, or email attachments, facilitating further processing. Additionally, measurement data can be documented online in the W&T Cloud and accessed worldwide. An internal, battery-backed clock provides precise timestamps optimized via synchronization with a time server. These functions ensure reliable documentation and analysis of measurement data, particularly valuable in process monitoring and machine data acquisition.

Versatile Application Possibilities

The Web-IO 4.0 Analog 0-10V is designed for a wide range of applications. It enables connection and monitoring of sensors with 0-10V outputs, such as light, temperature, or position sensors, and control of analog actuators like dimmers, motor controllers, or regulators over the network. In Box2Box mode, analog signals can be tunneled over long distances, using the network as an extension for measurement and control signals. In remote monitoring and fault detection, it observes measurements and reports deviations. In building and home automation, it controls analog systems like lighting or HVAC. In industrial environments, the device is suitable for process monitoring and visualization as well as machine data acquisition (MDA) to optimize production processes. Other potential use cases include environmental data logging or plant control.

Flexible Power Supply and Standards Compliance

The Web-IO 4.0 Analog is primarily powered via Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), either through phantom power over data pairs or via unused wire pairs. Alternatively, it can be powered externally with a power adapter. This flexibility facilitates installation in various environments. The device is compliant with standards for office and industrial environments and offers high electromagnetic immunity according to EN 61000‑6‑2, as well as low emissions per EN 55032:2015 + A1 Class B, EN 61000‑3‑2, and EN 61000‑3‑3. These characteristics ensure reliable and interference-free operation even in demanding conditions.

Please note: A power adapter is NOT included in the delivery.

Durability and Reliability

The Web-IO 4.0 Analog is designed for continuous operation and comes with a five-year warranty. Its robust construction and DIN rail mounting make it ideal for use in industrial environments. The internal clock, backed by a battery, ensures precise timekeeping optimized via synchronization with a time server. These features underscore the durability and reliability of the device even under challenging conditions.
