Robust Climate Monitoring with the Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT from Wiesemann & Theis

In demanding and harsh environments such as industrial facilities or outdoor areas, precise monitoring of temperature and humidity is crucial to ensure operational safety and efficiency. The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT from Wiesemann & Theis is a highly advanced measuring device specially designed for such challenges, featuring IP67 protection (device) and IPX4 (sensor). It captures temperature and humidity with high accuracy and provides the data over a network. With an integrated data logger, comprehensive network services, and a user-friendly interface, it offers a reliable solution for industrial applications, climate monitoring, and Green IT.

This article highlights the technical features, application areas, and advantages of this rugged device that meets Industry 4.0 requirements and contributes significantly to process optimization through dew point monitoring.

Precise Measurements in Harsh Environments

The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT is equipped with a temperature sensor that covers a measuring range of -40 °C to +85 °C. The humidity sensor measures relative humidity from 0 to 100% RH, under permissible environmental conditions of 0 to 95% (non-condensing). The IP67 protection class for the device and IPX4 for the sensor ensure high resistance to dust, water, and other environmental influences, making the device ideal for harsh environments such as production facilities, warehouses, or outdoor areas. Waterproof cable fittings for all connections enhance durability, while the extended voltage range of 24V to 60V DC allows for flexible power supply. These features make the device a reliable solution for accurate temperature and humidity monitoring in demanding conditions.

Intuitive Operation and Network Integration

The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT offers extremely user-friendly operation thanks to its intuitive web interface. Users can access real-time temperature and humidity data via a web browser, analyze trends, and adjust settings without installing additional software. The graphical display of measured values facilitates the identification of patterns and potential problems, making climate monitoring more efficient. Seamless network connectivity enables flexible integration into existing systems, making it ideal for experienced industrial users as well as operators working in harsh environments. As a network thermometer with a rugged humidity sensor, it provides a reliable solution for demanding applications.

Flexible Alarm and Reporting Functions

The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT offers comprehensive alarm and reporting capabilities. Up to 12 individually configurable alarms can be set up to automatically send notifications when defined temperature or humidity thresholds are exceeded. These alerts can be sent via email, SNMP traps, or Syslog, which is particularly useful in critical environments like production areas or server rooms, where quick responses to environmental changes are required. Additionally, the reporting function allows regular sending of measurement summaries via email, which can be used for audits, quality control, or documentation of operating conditions. These features improve transparency and safety in climate monitoring.

Seamless Integration into Industry 4.0 and IoT

The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT is fully equipped for the requirements of Industry 4.0. It supports modern protocols such as OPC UA, REST, and MQTT, enabling easy integration into existing automation systems. It also provides interfaces such as SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3, Modbus TCP, OPC DA, and Sensobase for database integration via ODBC. Developers can directly access measurement data via TCP or UDP sockets to implement custom solutions. The HTTP interface allows direct access to current readings—for example via JavaScript (AJAX)—to dynamically embed the data into websites or applications. Integration with the W&T Cloud enables global access to measurement data, increasing flexibility in connected environments.

Long-Term Data Storage and Global Access

An integrated data logger stores temperature and humidity data for a period ranging from at least 12 weeks up to 20 years, depending on the selected logging interval (15 seconds to 1 hour). The data can be exported in various formats such as FTP, Excel files, or email attachments, allowing flexible post-processing. Integration with the W&T Cloud enables worldwide access to stored data, making it available anytime and anywhere. An internal, battery-buffered clock ensures precise timestamps, which can be further improved by synchronization with a time server. These features provide reliable documentation and analysis of environmental conditions—particularly beneficial in IP67-rated device applications.

Versatile Application Areas

The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT is designed for a wide range of applications in harsh environments. In industrial settings such as production halls or warehouses, it monitors temperature and humidity to prevent equipment damage or quality loss. Dew point monitoring helps to avoid condensation, which is especially important in sensitive environments such as server rooms or storage areas. In server rooms and network cabinets, it supports climate control optimization, helping extend hardware lifespan and reduce energy costs. In the context of Green IT, the Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT helps improve the efficiency of cooling systems in server rooms by providing accurate data for optimization. Thanks to IP67 protection and waterproof cable connections, it is also suitable for use in humid or dusty environments, such as agriculture or construction.

Flexible Power Supply and Standards Compliance

The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT is powered via Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), supporting both phantom power over data pairs and power over unused wire pairs. The wide voltage range (24V to 60V DC) provides additional flexibility. Alternatively, an external power supply can be used, which expands deployment options in environments without PoE infrastructure. The device complies with standards for use in office and industrial environments and provides high immunity to interference according to EN 61000-6-2 and low emissions according to EN 55032:2015 + A1 Class B, EN 61000-3-2, and EN 61000-3-3. These features ensure reliable and interference-free operation, even under demanding conditions.

Please note: A power supply is NOT included in the scope of delivery.

Durability and Reliability

The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT is designed for continuous operation and comes with a five-year warranty. The robust housing with IP67 protection (device), IPX4 (sensor), and waterproof cable fittings makes it ideal for use in harsh environments. DIN rail mounting support simplifies installation in industrial environments. The internal clock, buffered by a battery, ensures accurate timekeeping, which is optimized through synchronization with a time server. These features underline the durability and reliability of the device—even under extreme conditions.

An Indispensable Tool for Climate Monitoring in Harsh Environments

The Web-Thermo-Hygrometer XT from Wiesemann & Theis is a state-of-the-art solution for precise temperature and humidity measurement in harsh environments. With its IP67 protection class, integrated data logger, and extensive network capabilities, it offers a flexible and reliable solution for industrial applications, server room monitoring, and other demanding use cases. Support for modern protocols such as OPC UA, REST, and MQTT, along with integration with the W&T Cloud, makes it ideal for Industry 4.0 applications.
