Door Contact MK4 – Door contact sensor

The reliable door contact for detecting open doors and cabinets

The HW group Door contact MK4 is a security door contact with a 2-metre connection cable, specially developed for detecting the opening of doors. As a classic reed contact (dry contact), it reports binary whether a door, window or control cabinet is open or closed, and can be connected via the terminal block to any HWg device with a digital input.

The Door contact MK4 is designed with galvanic isolation and can therefore also be used safely in demanding, electrically sensitive environments. It is offered as a single version – there are no variants or options for this model.

Simple and reliable door detection

The Door contact MK4 delivers a clear 0/1 signal as soon as a monitored door is opened or closed.

🚪

Door opening detection

Reed contact (dry contact) for reliable detection of the opening and closing of doors, windows or control cabinets.

🔗

2-metre connection cable

Permanently connected 2-metre cable links the contact to the terminal block of the monitoring device.

🔌

Terminal block connection

Connection via a screw terminal block to the digital input of any HWg device.

🛡️

Galvanically isolated

The contact is galvanically isolated and thus protects the connected monitoring device from interference signals.

⚡

Relay output (standard)

Switchable dry contact with up to 50 V and a maximum load current of 500 mA.

🏭

Industrial-grade

Designed for industrial, SoHo and IT environments with operating temperatures from -20°C to +80°C.

How the Door contact MK4 is constructed

The contact is very compact (approx. 12 x 51 x 10 mm, approx. 50 g), has IP40 protection rating and is designed for operating temperatures from -20°C to +80°C (0–100% RH) as well as a storage environment of -30°C to 60°C (5–95% RH).

1

Slim reed contact housing

The actual switching contact is housed in a narrow, rod-shaped plastic enclosure that is mounted directly on the moving door leaf.

2

Magnetic counterpart

An associated magnet element is attached to the fixed frame (door frame or control cabinet body). When the magnet moves away from the reed contact as the door opens, the switching state changes.

3

2-metre connection cable

A permanently connected 2-metre cable runs from the contact to the terminal block connection of the monitoring device.

4

Terminal block connection

A terminal block connection is available at the cable end, via which the door contact is connected to the digital input of an HWg device – the contact does not require its own power supply.

Compatible with the entire HWg device portfolio

The Door contact MK4 can be connected to any HWg device with a digital input (DI).

  • Poseidon2 product family
  • Ares product family
  • Damocles2 product family
  • Perseus product family
  • IoT devices such as NB-2xIn and SD-2xIn

Installation in a few steps

The Door contact MK4 is mounted mechanically and then connected to the digital input of the monitoring device.

  1. Attach the reed contact to the moving door leaf
  2. Position the associated magnet element on the fixed frame so that it is close to the reed contact when the door is closed
  3. Route the connection cable to the digital input of the monitoring device (e.g. Poseidon2, Ares or Damocles2)
  4. Connect the cable ends to the terminal block of the device
  5. Name the digital input in the device’s web interface and define the desired alarm state (door open/closed)

Why the Door contact MK4 is the right choice

Easy installation

Reed contact and magnet quickly attached to the door leaf and frame.

Reliable detection

Clear 0/1 signal without misinterpretation.

Galvanically isolated

Protects the connected monitoring device from interference signals.

Universally compatible

Connectable to any HWg device with a digital input.

Compact design

Only approx. 50 g, discreet mounting possible.

24-month warranty

According to the manufacturer with 24 months warranty from the date of purchase.

Practical application examples

  • Monitoring of control cabinet doors in data centres
  • Access monitoring in server rooms
  • Base stations (BTS) and telecommunications sites
  • Monitoring of storage and technical rooms
  • Data centre environmental and access control systems
💡

Practical example: A Door contact MK4 is attached to a server cabinet in a data centre and connected to a Poseidon2 device. If the cabinet door is opened unexpectedly, the Poseidon2 device immediately detects the state change and automatically sends an e-mail or SNMP trap notification to the security team – ensuring that every physical access to the hardware is documented.

Frequently asked questions

What is the HW group Door contact MK4 and what is it used for?

The Door contact MK4 is a security door contact with a 2-metre connection cable for detecting the opening of doors. It is suitable for monitoring control cabinets, server rooms, technical rooms and other security-relevant access points.

Are there different variants or options?

No. The Door contact MK4 is offered as a single version with a 2-metre connection cable. There are no variants or options for this model.

How does the Door contact MK4 work?

The Door contact MK4 consists of a reed contact on the moving door leaf and a magnet element on the fixed frame. When the magnet moves away from the reed contact as the door opens, the switching state changes and the connected HWg device detects the open door.

Which devices is the door contact compatible with?

The Door contact MK4 can be connected via its terminal block connection to the digital input of any HWg device, such as Poseidon2, Ares, Damocles2, Perseus or the IoT devices NB-2xIn and SD-2xIn.

Does the door contact require its own power supply?

No. The Door contact MK4 is a passive dry contact and does not require its own power supply. Detection of the switching state is handled by the digital input of the connected HWg device.

What load can the contact switch?

The Door contact MK4 is equipped with a standard relay output and can handle a load of up to 50 V at a maximum of 500 mA.

Is the door contact suitable for harsh environments?

Yes. The Door contact MK4 meets IP40 protection rating and is designed for operating temperatures from -20°C to +80°C. Thanks to galvanic isolation, it is also protected against interference signals from the environment.
