The DC current sensor for 100 A or 30 A with shunt and 1-Wire-UNI converter
The HW group 100A DC Current probe 1W-UNI is a set consisting of a shunt and a converter that directly measures DC current up to either 100 A or 30 A (depending on the selected option). The shunt is inserted directly into the circuit to be measured (the conductor is interrupted for this purpose). The DC current is measured in both directions and differentiated by the sign.
The 1-Wire-UNI output can be connected to Poseidon2 or Ares devices. Together with one of these devices, the sensor can serve as an early warning system for overload or a change in current direction (charging/discharging). The sensor is suitable for monitoring the input power of 12 V, 24 V or −48 V DC systems, for example for monitoring battery charging or energy consumption in telecommunications applications.
Direct DC current measurement in both directions
The sensor provides a measured value of 0–100 A or 0–30 A DC (depending on the selected option), with the sign indicating the current direction.
Current range 0–100 A or 0–30 A DC
Measurement accuracy 2 %, resolution 0.1 A. The shunt has a resistance of 0.6 mΩ (100 A) or 2 mΩ (30 A) and produces a voltage drop of 60 mV at maximum current.
Measurement in both directions
When current flows from the positive to the negative terminal of the converter, a positive value is displayed; in the opposite direction a negative value is shown (battery charging “+”, discharging “−”).
Galvanic isolation
The 1-Wire-UNI bus is electrically isolated from the measured circuit; the maximum measured voltage is 60 V.
2× RJ11 (1-Wire UNI)
Two RJ11 connectors on the converter allow further 1-Wire sensors to be daisy-chained on the same bus.
Bus-powered
Supplied with 5 V (approx. 3 mA) directly via the 1-Wire-UNI bus; maximum of 2 sensors per active port.
8 calibration points
The sensor can be calibrated at 8 points using the 1Wire HWg-UniCalibrator calibration software.
Individually selectable: 100 A or 30 A
The sensor is available in two current ranges. Both variants are supplied as a set consisting of a shunt and a 1-Wire-UNI converter and are connected via the RJ11 connector (1W-UNI).
Please note: The options listed below must be selected above the add-to-cart button before placing the sensor in the shopping cart. Shunt and converter are matched to each other and must not be interchanged between variants.
0 to 100 A DC
0–100 A DC Current probe sensor. Connection via RJ11 1W-UNI. Shunt with 0.6 mΩ / 60 mV voltage drop at 100 A.
0 to 30 A DC
0–30 A DC Current probe sensor. Connection via RJ11 1W-UNI. Shunt with 2 mΩ / 60 mV voltage drop at 30 A.
What is included in the box
Depending on the selected option (100 A or 30 A), the sensor is supplied as a complete set with the matching shunt.
- Measuring shunt
- 1-Wire-UNI converter
- Printed manual
How the 100A DC Current probe 1W-UNI is constructed
The converter measures approximately 79 × 68 × 30 mm (W×H×D) and weighs about 66 g, with protection class IP23. It is intended for indoor use (industrial environments) and can be mounted on a wall or on a DIN rail. Operating conditions: 0 °C to 40 °C at 0–80 % RH (storage: −10 °C to 60 °C, 0–80 % RH).
Measuring shunt
The shunt is inserted directly into the path of the monitored current, regardless of polarity – either on the positive or negative pole of the circuit.
Two-wire connecting cable (1 m)
A 1 m two-conductor cable connects the shunt to the converter. This length is fixed and must not be altered.
1-Wire-UNI converter with 2× RJ11
The converter evaluates the voltage across the shunt and provides the measured value on the 1-Wire-UNI bus. Two RJ11 sockets connect it to a Poseidon2, Ares, Poseidon 4002 or Poseidon 2250 device and allow daisy-chaining of additional sensors.
Terminal polarity
The “+” terminal on the converter corresponds to the more positive voltage (e.g. the power-source side). The converter displays a positive value when current flows from the positive to the negative terminal.
Matched pair
For highest accuracy, the shunt and 1-Wire-UNI converter are matched to each other and must not be interchanged.

- Connect the converter via RJ11 cable to a compatible Poseidon2, Ares, Poseidon 4002 or Poseidon 2250 device
- Allow the sensor to be detected automatically on the connected device and configure it via its web interface
- Set thresholds for overload as well as alarms for a change in current direction (charging/discharging)
Why the 100A DC Current probe 1W-UNI is the right choice
Two current ranges
Optionally 0–100 A or 0–30 A DC with 2 % accuracy.
Direction detection
Distinguishes charging and discharging via the sign.
Galvanically isolated
The 1-Wire bus is isolated from the measuring circuit.
For 12 V, 24 V and −48 V
Suitable for common DC supply systems in telecom applications.
Complete set
Shunt, converter and manual included in the scope of delivery.
24-month warranty
According to the manufacturer with a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase.
Practical application examples
- Monitoring the input power of telecom cabinets and BTS stations
- Monitoring battery charging
- Large UPS systems
- Telecommunications equipment
- Railway applications
Practical example: In a large UPS system the shunt is inserted into the cable between the battery and the UPS. The 100A DC Current probe 1W-UNI reports via a Poseidon2 or Ares device whether the battery is currently being charged (positive value) or discharged (negative value). In the event of overload or an unexpected change in current direction, the device immediately sends an alarm.
Frequently asked questions
What is the HW group 100A DC Current probe 1W-UNI and what is it used for?
The 100A DC Current probe 1W-UNI is a set consisting of a shunt and a 1-Wire-UNI converter for the direct measurement of DC current up to 100 A or 30 A (depending on the selected option). It is used to monitor overload, battery charging or a change in current direction in 12 V, 24 V and −48 V DC systems (e.g. telecom cabinets, UPS, railway applications).
