WLD sensing cable B – Water detection chain

Thin sensing cable for early detection of water leaks

The HW group WLD sensing cable B (Water Detection Chain Type B) is a cable-based sensor for detecting conductive liquids. Detection takes place along the entire cable length, so that even a few drops in the zone trigger an early warning. In the event of a water leak, every minute counts: an early warning can save considerable costs, and the long-term reliability of the entire system is crucial.

The sensing cable is the central component of the HW group WLD system (Water Leak Detection) and is connected to the “WLD zone input” of a device linked via LAN, LTE or KNX. With its smaller diameter, Type B is thinner than Type A and dries faster for reuse.

Easy to install, robust in everyday use

Type B sensing cable can be handled like a normal electrical cable without impairing its function.

➰

No bend radius

The cable is not subject to any bend radius limitation and can be knotted without losing its function. Installation is possible without special training.

👣

No pressure problem

Point pressure within the normal range does not affect detection. The cable can be walked on or pressed and even run under a door threshold without false alarms.

🔄

No twisting problem

The cable can be twisted like any other electrical cable.

♻️

No reuse limit

The cable can be cleaned, dried and reinstalled.

🧵

Thinner, dries faster

The smaller diameter compared to Type A means that Type B dries faster and can be put back into service sooner.

🛡️

No false alarms

Movements of surrounding cables do not trigger false alarms, so the cable may also be laid next to other electrical cables at a later time.

Individually selectable: 8 sets in different lengths

Sensing cable B is available in lengths of 2 m, 5 m, 10 m and 50 m, either as a 2-cable package with connection cable or as a pure sensing cable.

⚠️

Please note: The sets are selected in the selection field above the add-to-cart button. Sets 1 to 4 are 2-cable packages including WLD connection cable AB (2 m) and can be connected to any WLD zone input (green terminal strip) of the device. Sets 5 to 8 contain no connection cable.

Set 1: 2-cable package, 4 m

WLD sensing cable B (2 m) + WLD connection cable AB (2 m) = total length 4 m. Can be connected to any WLD zone input (green terminal strip) on the device.

Set 2: 2-cable package, 7 m

WLD sensing cable B (5 m) + WLD connection cable AB (2 m) = total length 7 m. Can be connected to any WLD zone input (green terminal strip) on the device.

Set 3: 2-cable package, 12 m

WLD sensing cable B (10 m) + WLD connection cable AB (2 m) = total length 12 m. Can be connected to any WLD zone input (green terminal strip) on the device.

Set 4: 2-cable package, 52 m

WLD sensing cable B (50 m) + WLD connection cable AB (2 m) = total length 52 m. Can be connected to any WLD zone input (green terminal strip) on the device.

Set 5: Sensing cable 2 m

WLD sensing cable 2 m (Water Leak Detection, Type B). Water is detected along the entire cable length. No connection cable included.

Set 6: Sensing cable 5 m

WLD sensing cable 5 m (Water Leak Detection, Type B). Water is detected along the entire cable length. No connection cable included.

Set 7: Sensing cable 10 m

WLD sensing cable 10 m (Water Leak Detection, Type B). Water is detected along the entire cable length. No connection cable included.

Set 8: Sensing cable 50 m

WLD sensing cable 50 m (Water Leak Detection, Type B). Water is detected along the entire cable length. No connection cable included.

How the WLD system is structured

A WLD zone consists of a device with zone input, the connection cable and the sensing cable. If required, it is extended with non-sensitive extension cable.

1

Device with WLD zone input

The sensing cable is connected to the “WLD zone input” of a device linked via LAN, LTE or KNX, e.g. WLD2, NB-WLD, Sensor WLD Relay 1W-UNI or Perseus Monitoring.

2

WLD connection cable AB (2 m)

The connection cable connects the WLD device to the sensing cable and ends at the green terminal strip of the zone input.

3

WLD sensing cable B (2 m / 5 m / 10 m / 50 m)

The actual sensing cable detects conductive liquid along the entire length. It is connected via a 2-pole fuse connector that Type A and Type B share.

4

Type A and Type B combinable

Since both types use the same 2-pole fuse connector, they can be combined within a single WLD zone.

5

Extension cable AB (non-sensitive)

It cost-effectively bridges areas without water risk. The zone can thus be extended to up to 185 m.

Spot sensor or sensing cable?

Both principles have their place. The decisive factor is how extensively and how quickly water is to be detected.

Spot sensors

Detect water only at a single point and, by design, cover a small area. It can take time for the water to reach the sensor. They are simple and inexpensive and are suitable for specific risk points, e.g. under an air-conditioning unit.

WLD sensing cable

Detect water continuously along the entire length, cover larger areas and react significantly faster, even with just a few drops. They require more careful installation.

In combination with a reliable alarm system, WLD sensing cables protect buildings, IT and other infrastructure from significant damage. The WLD system ensures early detection and reliable alarming, because time is critical.

Practical application examples

  • Liquid detection in buildings and technical sites
  • Data centers: leaks under raised floors and above suspended ceilings
  • Server rooms and IT racks: early warning around cooling units and cable trays
  • Climate technology: leaks from air-conditioning units, coolers and condensate lines
  • Boiler rooms: leaks at boilers, pumps and valves
  • Building basements: early detection of flooding or rising groundwater
  • Industrial plants: monitoring at pipelines, tanks and production lines
  • Commercial buildings: installation on walls and floors to protect offices and common areas
  • Hotels: monitoring of bathrooms, corridors and technical areas, including outside bathrooms
  • Hospitals and laboratories: protection of sensitive areas with critical equipment
  • Warehouses and archives: protection of stored goods and documents from water damage

Commissioning in a few steps

Installation requires no special training.

  1. Select the set and cable length suitable for the area to be monitored (sets 1 to 4 already include the connection cable)
  2. Lay the sensing cable along walls, steps or pipes and fasten it with Cover Strip B-30 or Poro Tape
  3. If necessary, bridge areas without water risk with non-sensitive extension cable (up to 185 m per zone)
  4. Connect the connection cable to the WLD zone input (green terminal strip) of the device
  5. Set up alarming by SMS/call or via the SensDesk Technology portal

Frequently asked questions

What is the HW group WLD sensing cable B and what is it used for?

The WLD sensing cable B is a cable-based sensor for detecting conductive liquids. It detects even a few drops along the entire cable length and is used, for example, in data centers, hotels, basements, industrial plants or archives.

What is the difference between Type B and Type A?

Type B has a smaller diameter, is thinner and dries faster for reuse. Both types use the same 2-pole fuse connector and can be combined within a WLD zone.

What is the difference between sets 1 to 8?

Sets 1 to 4 are 2-cable packages consisting of sensing cable B (2 m, 5 m, 10 m or 50 m) and WLD connection cable AB (2 m) with a total length of 4 m, 7 m, 12 m or 52 m respectively. Sets 5 to 8 contain only sensing cable B (2 m, 5 m, 10 m or 50 m), without connection cable.

How long may a WLD zone be?

Detection takes place along the sensing cable length; in total, up to 185 m per zone is possible when non-sensitive extension cables are used.

How fast is the alarming?

The system response time is 1 to 5 minutes, counted from the first drops to the ringing phone.

Does the cable trigger false alarms if it is bent or walked on?

No. Bending, knotting, twisting and point pressure do not affect detection, nor do movements of adjacent cables.

Can the cable be reused after a water leak?

Yes. The cable can be cleaned, dried and reinstalled.
