The connecting cable between WLD sensor cable and device
The HW group WLD-Connecting cable AB connects a WLD sensor cable (type A or B) to the green WLD zone input of a water leakage device. Important: the connecting cable itself does not detect water – it serves exclusively as a connection path between the actual water-sensitive WLD sensor cable and the WLD device.
Since every WLD zone requires this connecting cable, it is an essential basic component of every HW group WLD installation. It is part of the HWg monitoring ecosystem consisting of sensors, devices and the SensDesk Technology Portal, which provides long-term reliable alarms, charts, PDF reports, an open API and remote management of the devices.
Reliable and early water detection is essential in many industries, for example in data centers. The Water Leak Detection system (WLD system) from HW group is a complete solution designed to protect buildings and facilities from costly water damage.
Connecting piece instead of sensor
The WLD-Connecting cable AB solely provides the electrical connection – the actual water detection is performed by the separately connected WLD sensor cable.
Connection to the WLD zone input
Connects the WLD sensor cable to the green WLD zone input on the device.
Does not detect water itself
The cable is non-sensing; water detection occurs exclusively via the connected WLD sensor cable.
Can be shortened and extended
The cable can be shortened or extended using a standard two-wire cable.
With terminator
A terminator for terminating the WLD sensor cable is included in the scope of delivery.
How the WLD-Connecting cable AB is structured
The set consists of a 2-meter long non-sensing two-conductor cable with a green terminal connector and a separate terminator.
Green terminal connector
One end of the cable is fitted with a green plug-in terminal that is inserted into the WLD zone input of the device.
2-meter two-conductor cable
The actual connecting cable is a simple non-sensing two-conductor cable with a standard length of 2 meters.
Connection for the WLD sensor cable
At the other end, the actual water-sensitive WLD sensor cable (type A or B) is connected.
Terminator
The terminator included in the scope of delivery is placed at the opposite end of the WLD zone and electrically terminates it. Without a correctly installed terminator, the system typically reports the error “2 = Sensing cable disconnected”.
How long a WLD zone may be
The maximum total length of a WLD zone depends on the device used.
- The WLD sensor cable itself is available in lengths of 2 m, 10 m or 50 m, with a maximum of 85 m sensing length per zone
- Using the WLD-Extension cable AB, a zone can be extended to a total of up to 185 m
- For NB-IoT devices such as the NB-WLD, the maximum zone length is 60 m
- For WLD2, SD-WLD and the Sensor WLD Relay 1W-UNI, the maximum zone length is 185 m
- Each WLD zone requires exactly one WLD-Connecting cable AB and one terminator at the end of the zone
Part of the HW group WLD system
The connecting cable is used together with other components of the WLD system.
- WLD sensor cable type A: detects water along the entire cable length, available in 2 m, 10 m or 50 m
- WLD-Extension cable AB: extension cable, 5 m, extendable up to 100 m
- WLD2: WiFi/Ethernet water leakage detector for up to 4 zones with WWW, SNMP and PoE
- HWg-WLD: water leakage detector with Ethernet connection for 2D area monitoring via sensor cable
- SD-WLD: IoT monitoring unit for one WLD zone with LAN and WiFi connection, portal required
- NB-WLD: IoT device for one WLD zone with internal battery and NB-IoT mobile network connection, portal required
- Sensor WLD Relay 1W-UNI: universal WLD sensor with one sensor cable input as well as 1-Wire UNI and relay output
The connecting cable is also already included in the combination packages “WLD sensing cable A – 2+2 m”, “2+10 m” and “2+50 m”, but can also be ordered separately.
What is included in the scope of delivery
Please check the scope of delivery upon receipt for completeness and report any missing or damaged parts immediately to your supplier.
- WLD-Connecting cable AB, 2 m, with green terminal connector1 piece
- Terminator1 piece
Manufacturer’s warranty
The manufacturer HW group grants a 24-month warranty on the WLD-Connecting cable AB. The housing of the terminal connector is made of plastic.
Connection in a few steps
Connecting the connecting cable is straightforward and requires no additional tools.
- Insert the green terminal connector of the connecting cable into the WLD zone input of the device
- Connect the other end of the connecting cable to the WLD sensor cable
- If necessary, shorten or extend the connecting cable using a standard two-wire cable
- Place the terminator at the opposite end of the WLD zone
- Check the total length of the zone according to the device used (60 m or 185 m)
- Check the zone status in the portal or on the device; the error message “2 = Sensing cable disconnected” indicates a missing or incorrectly installed terminator
Application areas
- Setup and expansion of WLD zones in data centers and server rooms
- Water leakage monitoring in archives, museums and storage rooms
- Hotels and hostels for early detection of water and fire damage
- Industrial facilities with sensitive technical rooms
- Retrofitting or expanding existing HW group WLD installations
The HW group WLD-Connecting cable AB is an unobtrusive but necessary link in every WLD zone: it reliably connects the actual water-sensitive sensor cable to the WLD device and, together with the terminator, ensures correctly functioning zone monitoring.
Frequently asked questions
What is the WLD-Connecting cable AB and what is it needed for?
It is the connecting cable between a WLD sensor cable and the green WLD zone input of a water leakage device from HW group. Every WLD zone requires exactly one such connecting cable.
Does the connecting cable itself detect water?
No. The connecting cable is non-sensing; the actual water detection is performed exclusively by the separately connected WLD sensor cable.
Is a terminator included in the scope of delivery?
Yes. The terminator is part of the scope of delivery and must be placed at the end of every WLD zone for the zone to function correctly.
What does the error message “2 = Sensing cable disconnected” mean?
This message usually indicates that the terminator at the end of the WLD sensor cable is missing or not properly installed. In this case, check the termination at the end of the zone.
Can the cable be shortened or extended?
Yes, the WLD-Connecting cable AB can be shortened or extended using a standard two-wire cable. The maximum total length of the respective WLD zone must be observed (60 m for NB devices, 185 m for WLD2, SD-WLD and the Sensor WLD Relay 1W-UNI).
Which devices is the connecting cable compatible with?
It is compatible with all HW group devices that have a WLD zone input, such as WLD2, HWg-WLD, SD-WLD, NB-WLD and the Sensor WLD Relay 1W-UNI.
How long is the warranty?
The manufacturer HW group grants a 24-month warranty.
