The cost-effective extension cable for WLD monitoring zones
The HW group WLD-Extension cable AB is a non-sensitive extension cable for water leak detection (WLD). It is used together with a WLD sensing cable (type A/B) and a WLD device such as WLD2, NB-WLD, SD-WLD or the WLD Relay 1W-UNI sensor, and extends the range of a WLD monitoring zone without detecting water itself. This allows a WLD zone to be assembled cost-effectively from sensitive and non-sensitive cable sections.
The cable is part of the HWg monitoring ecosystem of sensors, devices and the SensDesk Technology portal, which provides reliable alarms, graphs, PDF reports, an open API and remote device management. Early and reliable water detection is essential in many areas, such as data centers – the WLD system from HW group offers a comprehensive solution to protect against costly water damage.
Key features at a glance
Compatibility
For use with WLD2, NB-WLD, SD-WLD and the WLD Relay 1W-UNI sensor.
5 m length
The non-sensitive extension cable is supplied in a length of 5 meters.
Up to 185 m zone length
In combination with the sensing cable, a WLD zone can be extended to a total of up to 185 m.
Cost-efficient
Since the cable itself is not sensitive, long distances without water risk can be bridged more affordably.
How the WLD-Extension cable AB is designed
The extension cable is deliberately simple in design, as it does not perform any sensor function itself.
Non-sensitive cable
Unlike the actual WLD sensing cable (type A/B), the extension cable does not detect water itself. It is used solely to bridge the distance between the WLD device and the sensitive cable section.
Plastic housing/sheathing
The cable is designed with a plastic sheathing (Housing: Plastic) and is classified as a pure cable accessory (Type: Cable).
Integration into the WLD chain
The extension cable is inserted into the cable run between the WLD connecting cable AB on the device and the actual WLD sensing cable (2 m / 10 m / 50 m). A terminator is required at the end of the zone; this is already included in the connecting cable.
How the WLD components work together
According to the manufacturer, a complete WLD monitoring zone consists of several coordinated components.
- WLD-Connecting cable AB: connects the WLD device to the sensing cable (2 m, green terminal block, including terminator)
- WLD-Sensing cable A/B: the actual water-sensitive cable (available in 2 m / 10 m / 50 m)
- WLD-Extension cable AB: non-sensitive extension cable (5 m), the subject of this article
- WLD device: WLD2, NB-WLD, SD-WLD or WLD Relay 1W-UNI sensor, which triggers the alarm on water contact
According to the manufacturer, the sensitive cable section within a zone may be a maximum of 85 m. By combining it with the extension cable, a zone can be extended to a total of up to 185 m (up to 60 m with NB-WLD). Just a few drops of water on the sensing cable are enough for the connected WLD device to trigger an alarm.
Areas of application
- Extension of WLD monitoring zones in data centers and server rooms
- Water leak detection in industrial facilities
- Protection of archives and storage rooms against water damage
- Use in hotels and museums for early detection of water damage
Frequently asked questions
What is the HW group WLD-Extension cable AB?
It is a 5 m long, non-sensitive extension cable for the WLD water leak detection system. It does not detect water itself, but cost-effectively bridges the distance between the WLD device and the actual sensing cable.
Does the extension cable detect water itself?
No. Only the WLD sensing cable (type A/B) is water-sensitive. The extension cable is used solely to extend the distance.
Which devices is the cable compatible with?
According to the manufacturer, the cable is intended for use with WLD2, NB-WLD, SD-WLD and the WLD Relay 1W-UNI sensor.
How long can a WLD zone be in total?
The sensitive sensing cable may be a maximum of 85 m long per zone. In combination with extension cables, a zone can be extended to a total of up to 185 m; with NB-WLD up to 60 m.
Is a terminator included in the scope of delivery?
No, the terminator is part of the WLD-Connecting cable AB (connecting cable on the device), not the extension cable.
