Ares12 LTE - industrial remote monitoring system

The industrial LTE remote monitoring system for sites without LAN access

The HW group Ares12 LTE is a cost-effective device for remote monitoring and alarm notification via LTE at sites without LAN access. It features an internal battery for power-failure backup and supports the connection of up to 14 external sensors as well as 2 digital dry-contact inputs for detectors.

The Ares12 LTE continuously monitors the readings of connected sensors. When a value reaches its alarm threshold, the device sends an email, an SMS, or calls predefined telephone numbers. Measured data can also be displayed in a clear dashboard via a SensDesk Technology portal. The internal battery bridges power outages for up to 24 hours, and the firmware can be updated remotely via FOTA (Firmware Over The Air).

Up to 14 sensors and 2 detectors – even without LAN

The Ares12 LTE connects to the Internet exclusively via LTE/GSM/GPRS, making it suitable for locations without a network connection.

Choose individually: base unit or complete set

The Ares12 LTE is available in two versions for global markets, which differ in their scope of delivery.

⚠️

Please note: Both versions include a quad-band GSM/LTE antenna, but no SIM card. Only the "Ares12 LTE G Tset" version additionally includes a temperature sensor and a universal power supply. The option must be selected before adding the product to the shopping cart.

Ares12 LTE G plain

The base device for global markets, supplied without accessories, provides the same remote monitoring capabilities and LTE connectivity for international deployments. Package contents: Ares12 LTE base device, USB cable, quad-band GSM/LTE antenna (3 m, SMA).

Ares12 LTE G Tset

The global complete set is ideal for worldwide applications and includes a temperature sensor for immediate use in data centers or warehouses. Package contents: Ares12 LTE base device, temperature sensor (3 m, IP67), universal power supply, USB cable, antenna.

How the Ares12 LTE is designed

The robust metal enclosure is compact, measuring approximately 76 x 93 x 31 mm (W x H x D) and weighing about 150 g. It has an IP40 protection rating and is designed for operating temperatures from 5°C to 50°C.

1

Metal enclosure for desk, wall, rack, or DIN rail

Robust metal enclosure for industrial use, suitable for installation on a desk, wall, rack, or DIN rail.

2

SIM card slot with external SMA antenna

A SIM card slot and an SMA connector for the included quad-band GSM/LTE antenna (3 m) establish the cellular connection. A SIM card is not included with either version.

3

2x RJ11 sensor connections ("Sensors")

Two RJ11 ports for 1-Wire UNI sensors, allowing up to 14 sensor readings in total to be connected via a bus with a maximum length of 60 m.

4

DI terminals (IN1, IN2)

Two screw terminals for digital inputs (dry contacts) with pulse-counter functionality, for example for detectors or meters; the right-hand terminal can be connected to 12V GND. Maximum cable length: 50 m.

5

Power supply (9–30V) with battery backup

Power is supplied through a barrel connector socket (Ø 2.1/5.5 mm) or a terminal block with 9–30 V DC (approximately 250 mA for each connection method). An internal rechargeable Li-Ion battery bridges power outages for up to 24 hours.

6

USB connection and status LEDs

The USB connection enables the device to be configured directly from a PC without additional software. LEDs on the front of the device indicate power, modem, and alarm status.

Long-term storage and integration with third-party systems

The Ares12 LTE stores measurement values locally, even when the connection is interrupted.

  • Integrated data logger for more than 250,000 records (4 MB memory)
  • Data can be sent as an email attachment or downloaded via USB
  • Compatible with third-party software such as SCADA systems
  • Developer examples in the HWg SDK (Borland C++, MS Visual, VB, C#, PHP, Java, and others)
  • Data transmission to the SensDesk portal via the HWg-Push protocol

A sensor value outside the defined safe range or a status change at a DI input triggers an alarm by email or "SMS + call", or activates a relay using the optional "Relay Output 1-Wire UNI" accessory.

Reliable notification even without LAN

The Ares12 LTE sends alarms directly through the cellular network—independently of an on-site Internet connection.

Standalone device alarms

Email to up to 5 addresses (SMTP with TLS), as well as SMS messages and voice calls to up to 5 telephone numbers directly from the device.

Portal alarms (HWg-cloud / SensDesk)

Alarm notification and reporting can be implemented entirely through the portal, including alarm reminders and periodic status reports.

Relay outputs via accessories

With the optional "Relay Output 1-Wire UNI" module, up to 4 relay outputs (up to 50V/1000mA) can be remotely controlled.

Standalone or IoT operation

Use as a standalone alarm device with remote configuration via HWg-cloud.com, or as an IoT monitoring device where alarm notification and reporting are fully handled in the portal.

Compatible with numerous HWg sensors

Up to 14 sensor readings in total can be connected to the RJ11 sensor bus.

  • Temperature (Pt1000)
  • Relative humidity
  • CO₂ concentration
  • Water leak detection (point detection)
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Current (4–20 mA)
  • Voltage sensor
  • Power-failure detector (power presence)
  • Smoke detector
  • Door contact

Commissioning in just a few steps

The Ares12 LTE can be configured locally via USB, without additional software, or remotely through the portal.

  1. Mount the device on a desk, wall, or DIN rail
  2. Insert the SIM card and screw the supplied GSM/LTE antenna onto the SMA connector (SIM card available separately)
  3. Connect the power supply (9–30 V DC; a power supply unit is already included with the Tset version)
  4. Connect the device to a PC using the USB cable and configure it locally, or use the portal for remote configuration ("AresConf")
  5. Connect 1-Wire UNI sensors to the RJ11 ports
  6. Optional: connect detectors to the DI terminals (IN1, IN2)
  7. Set alarm thresholds and email, SMS, and call recipients
  8. Optional: configure integration with HWg-cloud.com or a SensDesk portal

Practical application examples

  • Power distribution networks (transformer stations, power lines)
  • Monitoring water sources, including the status of technical equipment
  • Agricultural operations (greenhouses, grain storage facilities, etc.)
  • Road, motorway, or railway infrastructure
  • Temperature and thermal expansion monitoring of structures
