The Wireless LoRaWAN Sensor for Indoor Temperature and Humidity
The Nano Sensorics TEMPHU is a fully wireless indoor sensor for measuring temperature and humidity. It is housed in a robust room sensor enclosure, designed for wall mounting, and powered by 3.6 V AA lithium batteries. An integrated advanced intelligent (AI) calculation algorithm ensures reliable temperature and humidity readings. Data transmission is performed via a Class A LoRaWAN® radio network in accordance with the LoRaWAN® specification 1.0.3.
The TEMPHU is designed for easy commissioning and low maintenance: Configuration is performed "over the air" via downlink, battery life is up to 14 years according to the manufacturer (depending on settings and environmental conditions), and the radio range is up to 10 km.
Precise Measurement of Temperature and Humidity
The TEMPHU continuously measures the most important indoor climate parameters.
Temperature Measurement
Measuring range from -20 °C to 85 °C with accuracies of ±1 °C or ±0.4 °C depending on the temperature range.
Humidity Measurement
Measuring range from 0 to 100 % relative humidity (non-condensing), accuracy ±4 % or ±7 % above 80 % RH.
AI Calculation Algorithm
Integrated intelligent algorithm for reliable measured values as well as automatic self-calibration.
Up to 14 Years Battery Life
Battery operation without cabling, runtime depending on settings and environmental conditions.
Over-the-Air Configuration
Settings such as the measurement interval can be adjusted via LoRaWAN downlink, completely without on-site access.
How the TEMPHU Is Constructed
The TEMPHU enclosure is compact at 86 x 86 x 25.5 mm and weighs 88 g without battery or 123 g with battery.
Enclosure
Robust plastic enclosure made of ASA+PC-FF with side ventilation slots through which ambient air reaches the sensor. The enclosure is intended for indoor wall mounting and is not washable or paintable.
Rear Side with Battery Compartment
The rear cover is released with a screwdriver and reattached with four screws. Behind it is the battery compartment for one or two AA lithium batteries (3.6 V, type ER14505).
Wall Mounting
The enclosure is fastened directly to the wall with two suitable screws.
Button and LED Indicator
A button is used to reset the device and to immediately attempt reconnection to the LoRaWAN network. A green LED indicates the connection status and can additionally be switched on, off, or toggled for 5 seconds via downlink command.
Labeling
On the rear of the sensor there is a label with sensor name, serial number, production date, and QR code.
Reliable Radio Connectivity over Long Distances
The TEMPHU uses LoRaWAN® for energy-efficient and long-range data transmission.
LoRaWAN® 1.0.3
Class A end device with support for OTAA, ABP, ADR, and Adaptive Channel Setup.
End-to-End Encryption
Securing of the radio transmission via LoRaWAN® AES encryption.
Range up to 10 km
Transmission range under line-of-sight conditions; the actual range depends on the environment.
Link Budget & Transmit Power
Link budget from 137 dB (SF7) to 151 dB (SF12), transmit power 14 dBm ±1 dBm (region-dependent).
Adjust Settings via Downlink
After installation, the TEMPHU can be conveniently configured remotely without having to open the device again.
- Measurement interval (Tx period) adjustable via downlink on port 3
- Green status LED can be switched on, off, or briefly toggled via downlink
- Device reset can be triggered via downlink command
- Multiple settings can be combined in a single downlink message
Simple Commissioning, Low-Maintenance Operation
After inserting the batteries, the TEMPHU automatically connects to the LoRaWAN network.
- Open the rear cover with a screwdriver
- Insert one or two AA lithium batteries (3.6 V)
- Reattach the rear cover with the four screws
- Mount the enclosure at the desired location on the wall with two suitable screws
- Wait for the connection to be established: The LED flashes 5 times and lights up continuously for 3 seconds upon successful connection before going out
If the connection is not established immediately, the sensor automatically makes further connection attempts after 10 seconds, 60 seconds, 10 minutes, 1 hour, and finally every 24 hours. The button on the device can be used to restart the sensor and trigger an immediate new connection attempt. Apart from occasional battery replacement, the TEMPHU is maintenance-free. The sensor is intended exclusively for indoor use and should not be mounted near ventilation slots, windows, or door openings with constant drafts.
Important Safety Instructions
- Suitable for indoor use only
- Do not open, crush, or puncture the enclosure or battery
- Remove batteries when not in use to prevent leakage
- Keep the device and battery dry and away from liquids
- Use only manufacturer-recommended equivalent battery types
- Do not bend, deform, paint, or place the sensor in a microwave
- Do not clean with solvents or alcohol; use only a slightly damp cloth
- Not suitable for metrological or commercial billing purposes
Environmentally Sound Disposal
The TEMPHU falls under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU). The device and its components must be disposed of separately from household and industrial waste at a local collection point. The battery must be disposed of separately.
