The LoRaWAN Sensor for Monitoring the Current-Carrying Capacity of PVC and XLPE Cables
The Nano Sensorics Power TempHu is an indoor sensor for the complete acquisition of the conductivity of PVC and XLPE cables as well as temperature and humidity. The sensor is housed in a room sensor enclosure, designed for wall mounting, and operates fully wirelessly with 3.6 V AA lithium batteries. An integrated advanced intelligent (AI) calculation algorithm enables reliable acquisition of the measured quantities; data transmission is performed via a Class A LoRaWAN® radio network.
The key measured value is the so-called carrying current conductivity factor. Via a sensor head attached to the cable or busbar, the Power TempHu detects at critical points of the cable route how strongly the respective line can actually be loaded. According to the manufacturer, the sensor reacts quickly enough to map changes in current-carrying capacity in real time and also reliably detects changes of low intensity.
According to the manufacturer, the sensor is intended for infrastructure environments such as industrial facilities, solar and wind power plants, combined heat and power plants, telecommunications networks, densely occupied cable routes, and substations – wherever precise monitoring of cable conductivity is required.

Individually Selectable: Length of the Sensor Cable
The sensor head of the Power TempHu is supplied with a permanently attached cable and is available in two lengths.
Please note: The desired cable length must be selected above the shopping cart button, as the sensor cable is supplied permanently connected to the device and cannot be replaced afterwards.
1 Meter Sensor Cable
Version with 1 m long sensor cable for measuring points in the immediate vicinity of the enclosure.
2 Meter Sensor Cable
Version with 2 m long sensor cable when the mounting location of the enclosure is further away from the cable or busbar.
How the Power TempHu Is Constructed
The compact room sensor enclosure measures 121 x 62 x 26 mm and weighs 120 g without batteries or 170 g with batteries.
Enclosure
Robust plastic enclosure made of ASA+PC-FF in a new-generation design that, according to the manufacturer, blends inconspicuously into interior design. The openings of the enclosure must not be blocked or taped over, as they are required for measurement.
Sensor Head with Connecting Cable
A cable gland on the underside of the enclosure lets the sensor cable exit, at the end of which the actual measuring head is located. This is attached to the line or busbar to be monitored and acquires the measured values required for conductivity calculation there.
Battery Compartment Behind the Rear Cover
The rear cover of the enclosure is opened with a screwdriver. Underneath is the battery compartment for two AA lithium batteries of type ER14505 with 3.6 V, which can optionally be ordered together with the device.
Button and LED Indicator
A button is used to restart the device and triggers an immediate connection attempt to the LoRaWAN network. The LED indicator signals the connection status: After inserting the batteries or after a reset, it flashes for 15 seconds; upon successful connection it lights continuously for 3 seconds and then goes out.
Mounting Tabs
Above and below the enclosure there are tabs with holes through which the sensor is fastened to the wall with two suitable screws.
Labeling
On the rear of the sensor there is a label with sensor name, serial number, production date, and QR code.
Reliable Radio Connectivity over Long Distances
The Power TempHu uses LoRaWAN® for energy-efficient and long-range data transmission and can be easily connected to the network and cloud platform.

- Realistic load management: real-time data on the actual load limit of the cable route for safer load distribution
- Early anomaly detection: warnings in case of unusual or improper cable loading for predictive maintenance
- Longer cable service life: lower repair costs and downtime for PVC and XLPE cables
- Data-driven decisions: reliable real-time data as the basis for operational decisions
- Lower CO₂ footprint: support for more environmentally friendly building operation
Installation in a Few Steps
The installation manual describes the procedure from battery installation to network connection.
Open the Enclosure
The rear cover of the sensor is opened with a screwdriver.
Insert Batteries
Two AA lithium batteries with 3.6 V are inserted into the battery compartment as shown in the manual.
Close and Mount the Enclosure
The rear cover is closed again and the enclosure is securely fastened to the wall with two suitable screws.
Attach the Sensor Head
The measuring head at the end of the cable is attached to the PVC or XLPE cable or busbar to be monitored.
Check Network Connection
After inserting the batteries or pressing the button, the sensor automatically connects to the LoRaWAN network; the LED indicates the connection process.
Observe the Mounting Location
The sensor must not be placed near ventilation openings, windows, or door openings with a constant fresh air flow. The device is not suitable for outdoor use, nor for dusty or dirty environments with elevated operating and storage temperatures.
Note on connection establishment: If the first connection is unsuccessful, further automatic attempts follow after 10 seconds, 60 seconds, 10 minutes, 1 hour, and finally every 24 hours until the connection is successfully established. Pressing the button restarts the sensor and immediately triggers a new connection attempt.
Factory-Calibrated and Low-Maintenance
The Power TempHu is factory-calibrated and requires no further maintenance in normal operation.
Thanks to the integrated intelligent calculation algorithms (AI) and the Automatic Baseline Correction (ABC) technology from Nano Sensorics, the sensor is maintenance-free in normal indoor environments. Apart from occasional battery replacement, no further maintenance effort is required.
