IP-Based 8 Port Sensor Controlled Relay – Professional Network Control for Industrial Applications
The 8 Port Sensor Controlled Relay (8PRB) from AKCP is a highly advanced multi-port relay solution specifically designed for demanding process control and industrial automation. This intelligent network relay station enables precise remote control of up to eight electrical consumers via TCP/IP networks and offers seamless integration into existing SNMP infrastructures.
Innovative Sensor Integration for Automated Process Control
The core of the 8PRB lies in its sophisticated sensor integration. In conjunction with the AKCP SecurityProbe systems (securityProbe5E, securityProbe-X20, and securityProbe-X60), the relay system transforms into an intelligent automation solution. The innovative Auto-Sense technology automatically detects connected sensors and enables plug-and-play installation without complex configuration.
Intelligent sensor-relay interaction opens up entirely new dimensions in building automation and security technology. For example, temperature sensors can automatically activate cooling systems or shut down server hardware preventively in the event of critical overheating. Water sensors trigger immediate emergency shutdowns in the event of leaks, while smoke detectors initiate automatic safety protocols in case of fire hazards.
Versatile Application Areas in Modern Industry
The network relay system is used in numerous industrial and commercial sectors:
- Process Automation and Industrial Control: In modern manufacturing, the 8PRB enables precise control of production plants, conveyor systems, and quality assurance systems. Relay control can be performed both manually and fully automatically, depending on sensor data or time-based parameters.
- Critical IT Infrastructure and Data Centers: For mission-critical server environments, the system provides indispensable safety features. In the event of overheating, power outages, or other critical events, server racks can be automatically shut down or backup systems activated. SNMP integration enables seamless incorporation into existing network management systems such as Nagios, OpenNMS, or PRTG.
- Building Automation and Smart Building: In intelligent buildings, the 8PRB controls lighting systems, HVAC equipment, security systems, and energy management solutions. TCP/IP connectivity enables centralized control via web interfaces or mobile applications.
- Emergency and Safety Systems: The relay system serves as a central component for emergency shutdowns and safety protocols. In the event of fire, water ingress, gas leaks, or other hazardous situations, critical systems can be safely shut down within milliseconds.
Technical Excellence and Reliability
The technical specifications of the 8PRB highlight its suitability for industrial environments. With an operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C, the system is suitable for extreme environmental conditions. The relay contacts are designed for maximum switching currents of 5A at 30 VDC and 5A at 220 VAC, with a maximum switching capacity of 16A at 250VAC for resistive loads.
The contact configuration includes Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC), and Common (COM) connections via robust 3-pin Phoenix connectors. The high-quality AgCdO (silver-cadmium oxide) contact material ensures a maximum electrical service life of 100,000 switching cycles at rated load and a mechanical service life of 20 million switching cycles without load.
Flexible Power Supply and Scalability
The system offers flexible power supply options: basic power is provided via the connected SecurityProbe; in extended configurations with multiple relay units, an optional 7.5 VDC power supply with 3A is available. Typical power consumption is 495 mA (2.475 watts), ensuring an energy-efficient solution even for permanently operated systems.
The scalability of the system is impressive: up to eight 8PRB units can be connected to a single SecurityProbe server, providing a total capacity of 64 individually controllable relay channels. This scalability makes the system ideal for large industrial plants or complex building automation projects.
Advanced SNMP Functionality and Network Integration
The 8PRB supports comprehensive SNMP protocols (SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3) and thus offers maximum compatibility with existing network management infrastructures. Through specific OIDs (Object Identifiers), each relay channel can be individually addressed and monitored by external systems.
Web interface control is provided via the German-language interface of the SecurityProbe systems and offers intuitive operation for configuration, monitoring, and manual control. Alarm notifications can be sent via email or SNMP traps, including detailed descriptions and localization information.
Installation and Commissioning
Installation of the 8PRB is extremely straightforward: after connecting the devices to be controlled, the system is connected to a standard CAT5e/6 cable with an RJ-45 Intelligent Sensor Port on the SecurityProbe. The maximum cable length of 15 meters (50 feet) provides sufficient flexibility for most installation scenarios.
The Auto-Sense technology automatically detects the connected relay system and configures the basic parameters independently. Status LEDs for each relay channel as well as the power supply provide continuous visual feedback on the system status.
Quality and Reliability for Critical Applications
With a maximum switching rate of 18,000 operations per minute (without load) and 1,800 operations per minute (at rated load), the 8PRB is also suitable for high-frequency switching applications. The robust dimensions of 275mm x 138mm x 46mm and the industrial-grade construction ensure reliable operation even under demanding conditions.
The 8 Port Sensor Controlled Relay from AKCP represents the state of the art in network-based relay control and provides a future-proof solution for demanding automation and security applications. The combination of intelligent sensor integration, robust hardware, and comprehensive network functionality makes it the ideal choice for professional installations.
