AKCP AQX4: The 4-in-1 Air Pollution Sensor for Healthy Workplaces and Stable Data Centers

Room air quality is a crucial but often underestimated factor for productivity, health, and operational safety. While temperature and humidity are usually monitored in data centers and office buildings, air pollution and static air pressure are often neglected. With the new AKCP AQX4 Air Pollution and Pressure Sensor, AKCP introduces a compact 4-in-1 solution that precisely closes this gap.

The AQX4 combines temperature, humidity, static air pressure, and air quality index (AQI) in a single sensor. This makes the device suitable for both office workplaces and industrial environments as well as data centers where stable environmental conditions are essential.

Why Air Quality and Air Pressure Are Crucial in Data Centers

In data centers, operational safety is often assessed exclusively based on temperature values. However, even if the supply air is cool, problems can arise. Air pollution, incorrect pressure conditions, or elevated gas loads affect hardware and energy efficiency in the long term.

Inadequate air pressure, for example, can lead to incorrect distribution of air flows. Blocked air filters or faulty fan controls can be detected via pressure differences. At the same time, elevated VOC or VSC levels can indicate chemical contamination or outgassing that impairs electronic components.

The AKCP AQX4 at a Glance

The AQX4 is a 4-in-1 environmental monitoring sensor with the following core functions:

  • Temperature measurement

  • Humidity measurement

  • Static air pressure measurement

  • Air quality index (Air Pollution Index)

By combining these four parameters, operators gain a holistic view of their environment – both in terms of human health and machine efficiency.

Intelligent Air Quality Assessment (AQI)

At the heart of the AQX4 is an intelligent air quality scoring system. The sensor particularly measures:

  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)

  • Volatile Sulphur Compounds (VSC)

These gases arise from chemical outgassing, plastics, industrial processes, or exhaust fumes. The sensor evaluates air quality based on the electrical resistance of the gas sensor and outputs a percentage pollution value.

Pollution Mapping Logic

  • Clean air (0%): Gas Resistance ≥ 50 kΩ

  • Normal to Warning (0–65%): 50 kΩ > Resistance > 18 kΩ

  • Warning to Critical (65–85%): 18 kΩ ≥ Resistance > 5 kΩ

  • Critical to Maximum (85–100%): 5 kΩ ≥ Resistance > 1.5 kΩ

  • Maximum pollution (100%): Gas Resistance ≤ 1.5 kΩ

Rising percentage values signal a progressive deterioration of air quality. Operators can define automated alarms that, upon reaching certain thresholds, for example trigger the opening of ventilation flaps or windows.

Precise Pressure Measurement for Optimized Cooling

The AQX4 measures static air pressure in the range of 300 to 1100 hPa with a relative accuracy of ±0.05 hPa. Pressure measurements play a decisive role in controlling fans and climate systems.

By installing two sensors, differential pressure measurement can be performed. This helps:

  • Detect blocked air filters

  • Identify incorrect air flow distribution

  • Optimize fan speeds

  • Reduce energy consumption

A balanced pressure distribution reduces mechanical stress on servers and extends their lifespan.

Temperature and Humidity Monitoring

In addition to air quality and pressure, the AQX4 provides precise environmental measurements:

  • Temperature range: −40°C to +85°C

  • Accuracy: ±0.5°C (at 25°C)

  • Resolution: 0.1°C

  • Humidity range: 0 to 100% RH

  • Accuracy: ±3% RH (typical)

  • Resolution: 1% RH

These values allow individual thresholds to be defined – for example, to comply with OSHA requirements in work environments or to control server inlet temperatures in data centers.

Compact Design and Easy Integration

The AQX4 features a compact design:

  • Length: approx. 25.24 mm

  • Height: approx. 16.64 mm

  • Maximum cable length: 30 m

  • Sensors per unit: up to 4

Integration into existing AKCP monitoring systems is seamless. Measurement data can be displayed graphically and analyzed over longer periods. This allows trends to be detected early.

Typical Areas of Application

  • Data centers and server rooms

  • Office buildings

  • Industrial plants

  • Technical infrastructure

In office buildings, the sensor supports a healthy work environment. In data centers, it contributes to the stability of the IT infrastructure.

Benefits for Companies

  • Early detection of air pollution

  • Optimization of ventilation and cooling systems

  • Reduction of energy and maintenance costs

  • Improved health and productivity

  • Holistic environmental monitoring in one device

Summary

With the AQX4, AKCP introduces a versatile 4-in-1 environmental monitoring sensor that combines temperature, humidity, static air pressure, and air quality index in a compact unit. The combination of these parameters enables precise assessment of room air conditions and supports operators in protecting both people and machines.

Through intelligent alarming and long-term trend analysis, the AQX4 makes an important contribution to the stability of data centers and the improvement of air quality in work environments.
