AC Current Transducer

Professional Power Monitoring in Server Rooms and Critical Business Areas with Didactum AC Converter and Current Transducer

The AC current transducer in combination with the Didactum AC converter offers a state-of-the-art solution for reliable power monitoring in server rooms and critical business areas. In times of increasing digitalization and rising demands for the fail-safety of IT and industrial systems, precise monitoring of energy consumption is a key element for business success. The combination of AC current transducer and AC converter from Didactum enables seamless, scalable, and easy-to-integrate real-time power monitoring—both in data centers and in sensitive business areas such as production, energy supply, or telecommunications.

Functionality and Installation of the System

The AC current transducer is a contactless open-loop transducer that measures alternating currents in the range of 0 to 100 amperes. It is simply placed around the power cable to be monitored, without the need to interrupt the circuit. This is particularly advantageous for ongoing operations, as there is no downtime. The current transducer converts the measured current into an analog signal.

This signal is forwarded to the Didactum AC converter. The AC converter is a plug-and-play device that is connected to a free analog input (A1...A8) of the Didactum monitoring unit. Installation is extremely simple: The AC converter is connected to the monitoring unit via an RJ-11/RJ-12 cable and automatically detects the input signal from the current transducer. Using the web-based user interface of the Didactum monitoring solution, the sensor can be immediately configured, named, and provided with individual thresholds for warnings and alarms.

With the help of the Didactum sensor extension unit, the number of monitored circuits and the distance between sensors and the monitoring unit can be flexibly expanded. This allows even large data centers or extensive business areas to be monitored centrally and efficiently.

Monitoring in the Server Room

Server rooms are the heart of modern companies. A power failure or overload can lead to significant data loss, downtime, and immense costs. With the AC current transducer and the Didactum AC converter, companies can precisely monitor the power consumption of critical devices such as servers, switches, UPS systems (uninterruptible power supplies), air conditioning units, and ventilation systems.

Typical Application Examples in the Server Room:

  • UPS Monitoring: The power consumption of UPS systems is continuously monitored. In the event of overload or failure, an immediate alarm is triggered to ensure uninterrupted operation.
  • Air Conditioning & Ventilation: The power consumption of air conditioning units is monitored to detect efficiency losses or technical defects at an early stage and thus prevent overheating in the server room.
  • Individual Server Monitoring: By monitoring individual servers, unusual load peaks that indicate hardware errors or cyberattacks can be immediately detected and countermeasures initiated.
  • Early Fire Detection: In combination with other sensors such as smoke or temperature sensors, power monitoring can help identify fire hazards caused by overload or short circuits.

The central collection of all power data enables seamless documentation, analysis, and optimization of energy consumption in the server room. This allows companies to specifically implement measures for energy savings and efficiency improvements.

Monitoring Critical Business Areas

Not only in the server room, but also in other business-critical areas such as production plants, energy supply centers, hospitals, or telecommunications sites, power monitoring with the AC current transducer and the Didactum AC converter is indispensable.

Typical Use Cases:

  • Industrial Monitoring: Production machines, pumps, or compressors are monitored for overcurrent to detect maintenance needs or impending failures at an early stage.
  • Energy Consumption Analysis: By integrating multiple current transducers, "power guzzlers" can be identified and targeted measures for energy optimization can be implemented.
  • Overcurrent Protection: The system can be configured so that when defined thresholds are exceeded, warnings are automatically triggered or devices are shut down to avoid costly consequential damage.
  • Sensor Integration: The Didactum monitoring solution enables the integration of various sensors, so that in addition to power monitoring, temperature, humidity, smoke, access, or leaks can also be centrally monitored.
  • Remote Monitoring: Thanks to network capability, all measured data can be centrally monitored and forwarded to higher-level management systems if necessary—ideal for companies with multiple locations.

Advantages for Companies

  • The combination of AC current transducer and Didactum AC converter offers numerous advantages:
  • Real-time power monitoring: Companies always have up-to-date information about the status of their power supply.
  • Optimize energy consumption: Detailed analysis allows savings potential to be identified and implemented.
  • Overcurrent protection and operational safety: Critical conditions are detected immediately and automatically reported or measures initiated.
  • Scalability: With the sensor extension unit, the system can be flexibly adapted to growing requirements.
  • Easy installation: Contactless measurement and plug-and-play integration enable easy retrofitting even in existing systems.
  • Central management: All sensors are managed via a central platform, which greatly simplifies monitoring and control.

The AC current transducer and the Didactum AC converter enable professional, scalable, and reliable power monitoring in server rooms and critical business areas.

The simple installation, flexible expandability, and central, network-based monitoring make this system the first choice for companies that place the highest demands on security, efficiency, and reliability.
