Monitoring System 500T - Remote Site Monitoring Bundle

Remote Site Monitoring: Autonomous Monitoring of Remote Locations via LTE

This Didactum bundle combines the Monitoring System 500T with five core environmental sensors — temperature, humidity, water, smoke, and AC voltage — as well as an LTE modem with an additional antenna to create a fully autonomous remote monitoring solution. This makes it possible to reliably monitor branches, retail outlets, radio masts, distribution stations, or other unmanned locations, even when no stable internet connection is available there.

As a highly advanced 19"-1U control unit, the Monitoring System 500T forms the central monitoring hub of the bundle: it is integrated into the network via Gigabit Ethernet, is fully configurable through the web browser, and requires no additional software. The temperature, humidity, water, smoke, and AC voltage sensors are connected directly to the analog ports and are automatically detected. The LTE modem installed in the expansion slot of the 500T ensures that alarm messages are reliably transmitted via mobile network even if the local network connection fails — ideal for remote sites without fixed data connectivity.

As your requirements grow, this bundle grows with them: additional sensors and CAN devices can be added at any time via the remaining analog ports and the 500T CAN bus — without replacing the central unit.

This bundle includes:

Seven perfectly matched Didactum products that together form complete remote site monitoring with cellular backup.

Monitoring System 500T

The central 19"-1U monitoring and alarm unit that collects, evaluates, and automatically alerts on all sensors.

Temperature Sensor

Precise temperature monitoring for early detection of overheating at the remote site.

Humidity Sensor

Monitors relative humidity and warns of condensation or excessively dry air.

Water Sensor

Detects leaks and water ingress early before major damage occurs.

Smoke Sensor

Photoelectric smoke detector for early fire detection in the equipment cabinet.

AC Voltage Sensor

Monitors the power supply and reports power failures or voltage fluctuations at the site.

LTE Modem with Additional Antenna

A factory-installed mobile communication module for network backup and SMS alerts when the network connection fails.

Monitoring System 500T

The Monitoring System 500T is the central control unit of the bundle and a highly advanced, field-proven 19"-1U monitoring solution for data centers, technical rooms, and other business-critical environments. As a self-sufficient device without moving parts such as fans or hard drives, it continuously records all connected sensors and issues real-time alerts long before a costly outage can occur. With 8 analog ports, one CAN bus port, 16 dry contact inputs, and 4 relay outputs, the 500T can also be used as an I/O controller for doors, fans, generators, or UPS systems. The system is equipped with Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbit/s) and can be seamlessly integrated into monitoring environments such as Zabbix, PRTG, or Nagios thanks to SNMP, Modbus TCP/IP, and Syslog.

Temperature Sensor

The Didactum temperature sensor is used for precise temperature monitoring and measurement in the equipment cabinet or server room of the monitored site. The sensor is connected via an RJ11 plug to one of the 500T analog ports and is automatically detected. It can then be freely named in the web interface and assigned custom threshold values (Lower Critical, Lower Warning, Normal, Upper Warning, Upper Critical), so that an alarm is triggered automatically when the temperature becomes critical.

Accuracy±0.25 °C at room temperature
ConnectionRJ11 6P4C, 2 m cable
Max. distance100 m
Operating temperature-10 °C to +80 °C

Humidity Sensor

The Didactum humidity sensor measures the relative humidity at the remote site and provides early warning of excessively dry air (ESD risk for hardware) or excessive humidity (risk of condensation). Like the temperature sensor, it is connected to an analog port of the 500T via an RJ11/RJ12 cable, automatically detected, and configured in the web interface with individual threshold values.

Accuracy±3 % RH
ConnectionRJ-11 / RJ-12
Max. distance50 m
Operating temperature-10 °C to +80 °C

Water Sensor

The Didactum water sensor detects leaks by measuring the increase in capacitance between two metal poles — corrosion-resistant and ideal for long-term use under raised floors, at air-conditioning systems, or in unmanned equipment cabinets. The sensor is connected via an analog port of the 500T and typically reports water ingress within about 15 seconds.

Measurement principleCapacitive (2-pole)
ConnectionRJ11 / RJ12 (6P4C)
Max. distance100 m
Response timeapprox. 15 seconds

Smoke Sensor

The Didactum smoke sensor is a photoelectric smoke detector for early fire detection at unmanned sites. It is connected to an analog port of the 500T, mounted on the ceiling (max. 6 m installation height), and can optionally be daisy-chained with up to 10 additional smoke sensors to cover larger spaces.

Detection principlePhotoelectric
Connection2 × RJ12, daisy chain up to 10 units
Max. distance150 m
Service life≥ 10 years

AC Voltage Sensor

The Didactum AC voltage sensor monitors the power supply at the remote site in real time and immediately reports power failures, undervoltage, or overvoltage. It is simply plugged into a free 230V outlet and connected to an analog port of the 500T via a sensor cable. Thanks to plug & play and auto-sensing, the sensor is automatically detected.

ℹ️

Note: For a power failure to be reported reliably, the monitored outlet must not be backed up by a UPS. The Monitoring System 500T itself should, however, be operated on a UPS so that notifications can continue to be sent in the event of an alarm.

LTE Modem with Additional Antenna

The LTE modem is already factory-installed in the designated expansion slot of the Monitoring System 500T and is therefore the heart of the remote site concept: if the local network connection fails, the modem automatically switches to LTE (4G) and keeps the system connected, so that alarms from the temperature, humidity, water, smoke, and AC voltage sensors are still reliably transmitted even when no fixed network is available at the site. In addition, the module supports sending and receiving SMS notifications to up to ten different phone numbers, which significantly improves response speed for critical alerts.

⚠️

Please note: The LTE modem is already factory-installed in the device and is supplied without a SIM card. For cellular connectivity and SMS sending, you need your own SIM card purchased separately from a mobile network provider.

Comprehensive sensor integration for the bundle

The Monitoring System 500T supports up to 130 sensors, contacts, and relays simultaneously — 8 analog RJ12 sensor ports are available directly on the device, and this number can be significantly expanded via the CAN bus. Five of the eight analog ports are already occupied in the bundle by temperature, humidity, water, smoke, and AC voltage sensors, while the remaining three ports stay free for additional sensors.

Temperature & Humidity

Included in the bundle: protection against overheating and condensation.

Water & Leakage

Included in the bundle: early warning of water ingress.

Smoke & Fire

Included in the bundle: early fire detection.

Power Supply

Included in the bundle: detection of power failure and voltage fluctuations.

Thanks to the three remaining analog ports and the CAN bus port, the bundle can be expanded at any time with additional sensors — for example extra door contacts, vibration sensors, or magnetic contact sensors to protect outdoor cabinets.

Real-time monitoring and automated alerting

The Monitoring System 500T reacts immediately to every change in the state of the connected sensors. When a threshold is exceeded, the system automatically sends email notifications, SMS, web-to-SMS, push messages, or SNMP traps, or activates a siren. If the local network connection fails, the factory-installed LTE modem automatically takes over communication and ensures that alarms and SMS notifications continue to be delivered reliably. Integration into monitoring software such as Zabbix, PRTG, or Nagios is easily possible thanks to common network protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, FTP, SNMP, Syslog, DHCP, Modbus TCP/IP).

💡

Practical example: At a remote radio mast, the mains power fails. The AC voltage sensor reports the outage immediately to the 500T, which sends an SMS to the responsible technician via the LTE modem — even though there is no LAN connection at the site. This keeps the site continuously monitored even without a fixed network.

Web-based control & intelligent automation

The intuitive web interface allows easy management of all sensors as well as alarms and scenarios — directly from the moment the bundle is put into operation.

  • Power failure detected → SMS to technician, SNMP trap to control center
  • Temperature > 28 °C AND humidity < 30 % → send email, switch relay
  • Water sensor triggered → activate siren, SMS to technician
  • Network failure detected → automatic switch to LTE, SMS confirmation

The Monitoring System 500T can be used as an I/O controller for air conditioning systems, generators, lighting, doors, or fans — ideal for remote monitoring and control of remote sites.

Full control

Monitor all sensors, turn them into actionable alerts, and configure integrations — all through an intuitive, web-based interface.

  • Monitor the real-time status of temperature, humidity, water, smoke, and power supply together
  • Create automated actions based on defined conditions
  • Send email, Telegram, HTTP request, SNMP, or other notifications
  • Visualize trends and logs for better decision-making
  • Manage users, permissions, and access securely

Scalable, reliable, and future-proof

The Monitoring System 500T in the bundle is equipped with 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet (Gigabit). The system supports up to 1000 elements (sensors, contacts, triggers, timers, logic schemes, notifications). Five of the 8 analog ports of the central unit are already occupied in the bundle with sensors, while the remaining 3 ports and the CAN bus port remain fully available for additional sensors. Regular firmware updates ensure long-term usability. Made in the EU — German support included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in this bundle?

The bundle includes the Monitoring System 500T as the central monitoring and alarm unit, a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a water sensor, a smoke sensor, and an AC voltage sensor, as well as an LTE modem that is already factory-installed in the expansion slot of the 500T. Together they form autonomous remote site monitoring with cellular backup.

Do I need a SIM card for the LTE modem?

Yes. The LTE modem is already factory-installed in the Monitoring System 500T, but it is supplied without a SIM card. For mobile network connectivity and sending SMS notifications, you need your own SIM card purchased separately from a mobile provider.

Can the system be operated without internet access at the site?

Yes, that is exactly what this bundle is designed for. The factory-installed LTE modem establishes an independent cellular connection via a SIM card and enables monitoring and alerting via SMS or mobile network even at sites without fixed internet access.

How is the AC voltage sensor installed?

The sensor is simply plugged into a free 230V outlet that is not UPS-backed and connected to a free analog port of the 500T via the sensor cable. Thanks to auto-sensing it is automatically detected. To ensure a power failure is reported reliably, the 500T itself should, however, be operated on a UPS.

What happens if the network connection fails?

The factory-installed LTE modem automatically switches to LTE (4G) when the local network connection fails and keeps the system communication active. Alarms from the connected sensors are therefore still transmitted reliably via SMS or mobile network even without a LAN connection.

Can I expand the bundle with additional sensors?

Yes. Since the bundle only occupies 5 of the 8 analog ports of the Monitoring System 500T, 3 additional ports are available for extra sensors such as door or magnetic contact sensors. Up to 32 additional CAN devices or expansion units can also be connected via the CAN bus port.

Can the bundle be integrated into existing IT infrastructures?

Yes, the Monitoring System 500T is specifically designed for integration into professional IT environments. It supports SNMP v1/v2c/v3, Modbus TCP/IP, and Syslog, can be integrated into common monitoring platforms such as Nagios, PRTG, Zabbix, or Check_MK, and offers a web API for custom integrations.
