The 7 Life-Saving Sensors – now in more detail
1. Temperature Sensor
The Didactum temperature sensor is designed for monitoring and measuring the internal temperature within the monitoring area.
Its measuring range is between -40 °C and +100 °C. The IP temperature sensor features an accuracy of ±0.4 °C. As a modern temperature sensor, it is compatible with all network-based temperature monitoring and alarm systems from the company.
The sensor is wired and ideally suited for temperature control in sensitive environments that require continuous room temperature monitoring.
2. Humidity Sensor
The Didactum humidity sensor offers high measurement accuracy of ±3% RH and is designed for use in demanding environments.
The robust construction allows operation at temperatures from -40 °C to +100 °C. Installation can be flexibly performed on walls, ceilings, desks, or inside IT racks, ensuring easy integration into existing infrastructures.
Thanks to optional extension cables, the sensor can be installed up to 50 meters from the main unit, further expanding its application range.
3. Water Sensor
The Didactum water sensor detects water by measuring an increase in capacitance between two metal poles at the measurement site, all housed in a robust plastic casing. Unlike conventional metal-based sensors, it is protected from corrosion in the long term due to its low operating voltage and non-corrosive measurement principle.
This design makes it ideal for long-term use in environments prone to leaks and requiring reliable leak detection. The water sensor is compatible with any analog input on the Didactum monitoring unit and can be easily integrated.
Scalability is enabled through the sensor expansion unit, allowing both the number of water level sensors and the total length of the sensor network to be increased – ideal for industrial monitoring and advanced smart home applications.
4. Smoke Sensor
Installation of a smoke detector in a server room should always be carried out by qualified personnel to ensure optimal placement and function.
The smoke detector should ideally be mounted on the ceiling of the server room or near potential fire sources such as server cabinets, power supplies, or cable trays. Modern IP smoke detectors can be easily integrated into existing monitoring and alarm systems. Using network protocols such as SNMP or Modbus, they can communicate directly with central server room monitoring and trigger immediate actions in case of alarm.
Regular maintenance and functional testing of smoke detectors are crucial. Only then can fire detection remain reliable in emergencies. Many server room smoke detectors feature self-test functions and automatically report faults or contamination to the central monitoring system.
5. Door Contact
The Didactum door contact sensor is essential for access control, monitoring the status of doors and windows (open or closed).
It consists of two parts: a magnet and a sensor that together ensure precise detection of whether an access point is open or closed. The door contact sensor can be connected to any analog port (A1...A8) of the Didactum monitoring unit and supports daisy-chaining, enabling easy and scalable serial installation of multiple sensors.
For larger systems, the number of sensors and total cable length can be expanded using the Didactum sensor port extension, allowing flexible access control across multiple entry points. This server room door sensor is ideal for securing sensitive areas and continuously monitoring access status.
6. AC Current Sensor
Installation of the Didactum AC current sensor is simple and flexible.
The sensor is plugged into a free 230V power socket and connected via the supplied sensor cable to a free sensor port on the Didactum monitoring system. The sensor cable can be extended up to 100 meters if required, allowing flexible placement.
Thanks to plug & play and auto-sensing, the sensor is automatically recognized by the monitoring system. Through the user-friendly web interface, custom thresholds, notifications, and alerts can be configured. Alerts can be sent via email, SMS, SNMP trap, or through automatic switching of relays.
7. USB Camera
The Didactum USB dome camera is ideal for video surveillance of server rooms that host sensitive data and critical business systems. It enables live images from the server room to be accessed anytime via the web interface.
This allows IT staff to see in real time which employee is in the server room and detect unauthorized access. Integrated infrared technology ensures reliable monitoring. The IR LED range extends up to 20 meters, fully covering larger rooms. Not only in server rooms but also in other critical company areas such as archives, warehouses, technical rooms, or sensitive production areas, the IP camera provides a high level of security.
Video surveillance helps detect and prevent theft, sabotage, or vandalism at an early stage. In branch offices or remote sites, the camera also ensures effective access control and enhances the security of employees and company assets.
LTE Modem
The Didactum LTE modem expansion module is a key component for reliable monitoring of server rooms and critical business areas. Supporting SMS transmission via 2G and 3G networks, as well as Ethernet connectivity over LTE (4G), this LTE modem offers a flexible and fail-safe communication solution for modern monitoring systems.
Especially in environments where the network connection cannot always be guaranteed, the LTE modem ensures the necessary redundancy and security.
