Monitoring System 100T - Basic IT Protection

IT Basic Protection Bundle: Central Unit with Temperature, Humidity, Smoke and Water Monitoring

This Didactum bundle combines the Monitoring System 100T with four essential analog sensors – temperature, humidity, smoke and water – to form a complete basic protection solution for server rooms, IT racks and technical rooms. This means the bundle covers the four most common risk factors in IT environments right from the start: overheating, condensation, fire and water ingress.

The Monitoring System 100T serves as the central control and alerting unit: it is connected to the network via Ethernet, is fully configurable through a web browser, and requires no additional software. All four sensors are connected directly to the 100T's analog ports and are detected automatically – fully utilizing the central unit's four built-in analog ports for basic protection.

As your needs grow, this bundle grows with you: the entire CAN bus port of the 100T remains completely free, so additional sensors or expansion units can be added at any time – without having to replace the central unit.

This bundle includes:

Five coordinated Didactum products that together provide complete basic protection for server rooms and technical rooms.

Monitoring System 100T

The central IP-based monitoring and alerting unit that collects and evaluates all sensor data and automatically triggers alerts when thresholds are exceeded.

Temperature Sensor

A precise analog sensor for continuous monitoring of room temperature.

Humidity Sensor

A compact analog sensor for measuring relative humidity.

Didactum Smoke Sensor

A photoelectric smoke detector for early fire detection in server rooms and technical areas.

Water Sensor

A capacitive leak sensor for reliable detection of water intrusion.

Monitoring System 100T

The Monitoring System 100T is the bundle's central control unit and Didactum's latest generation of high-end monitoring systems, developed and manufactured in the European Union. It operates completely independently via an integrated web server, requires no additional software installation, and is designed for continuous 24/7 operation in critical environments such as server rooms, production facilities or data centers thanks to its hardened Linux operating system and built-in watchdog. Up to 36 sensors can be connected and automatically detected via four analog ports and one CAN bus port, while integration into SNMP-, Modbus TCP/IP- or Syslog-based monitoring landscapes such as Zabbix, PRTG or Nagios is possible without any additional effort. With 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet, the 100T is also built for high-performance network connectivity in modern IT infrastructures.

Temperature Sensor

The temperature sensor included in the bundle precisely monitors and measures the indoor temperature in the monitored room or rack and is connected directly to an analog port of the Monitoring System 100T via an RJ11 connector. The device automatically detects the sensor, displays it in the web interface, and allows individual configuration of thresholds and notifications there. The sensor is wired, includes a 2-meter cable, and can be placed up to 100 meters away from the central unit if needed, making it suitable for racks or adjacent rooms as well. As the first of four basic protection sensors, it delivers reliable temperature data from the outset and forms the basis for automated cooling and alert scenarios.

Humidity Sensor

The humidity sensor in the bundle complements the temperature sensor by measuring relative humidity and is likewise connected directly to the Monitoring System 100T via an analog port. With compact dimensions of just 60 × 18 × 18 mm and a power consumption of only 60 mW, it is space-saving and energy-efficient, allowing it to be mounted inconspicuously in racks, on walls or on tabletops. Continuous humidity monitoring helps detect condensation risks early and ensures optimal conditions for sensitive IT equipment. With a connection cable that can optionally be extended up to 50 meters, the sensor can be placed flexibly wherever humidity actually needs to be monitored.

Didactum Smoke Sensor

The Didactum smoke sensor included in the bundle provides early fire detection, protecting against the third critical risk factor in server rooms and technical areas. It operates on the photoelectric detection principle, is installed on the ceiling, and detects rising smoke long before it develops into a major fire causing data loss and costly equipment damage. Via two RJ12 ports, the sensor can be connected directly to an analog port of the monitoring system and can also be daisy-chained with up to 10 additional sensors, making it suitable for larger monitoring areas as well. With an average lifespan of at least 10 years and manufacturing in the EU, it is built for permanent use in critical infrastructure.

Water Sensor

The water sensor completes the bundle's basic protection and detects moisture and leaks capacitively between two stainless steel measuring poles, encapsulated in a robust, corrosion-resistant plastic housing. Thanks to its low operating voltage and non-metallic measuring principle, it remains functional over the long term even with permanent contact with moisture. The sensor is plug-and-play compatible with any analog port of the Monitoring System 100T and is particularly suited for placement under raised floors, near air conditioning units, pipes or server cabinets. With a response time of around 15 seconds, it reliably and quickly triggers an alarm in an emergency, so IT staff can respond immediately.

Thanks to the fully free CAN bus port, the bundle can be extended at any time with additional Didactum sensors or expansion units – ideal for growing from solid basic protection into a comprehensive monitoring network.

Real-Time Monitoring and Automated Alerting

The Monitoring System 100T responds immediately to critical readings from all four included sensors. When thresholds are exceeded, the system automatically sends email notifications, SNMP traps, or activates a siren. Integration into monitoring software such as Zabbix, PRTG, Nagios or Check_MK is straightforward thanks to common network protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, FTP, SNMP, Syslog, Modbus TCP/IP, DHCP).

💡

Practical example: The smoke sensor in the server room reports the early stages of smoke development. The system immediately sends an email and an SNMP trap to the security team, permanently logs the event, and can optionally shut off power to the affected racks via a relay output – preventing a major fire before it starts.

Web-Based Control & Intelligent Automation

The multilingual web interface allows easy management of all four basic protection sensors as well as alerts and scenarios – right from the moment the bundle is commissioned.

  • Temperature > 30 °C → turn on ventilation, trigger alarm
  • Humidity > threshold → send email to administrator
  • Smoke detected → activate siren, shut off power via relay
  • Water leak detected → immediate alert, close valves via relay

The Monitoring System 100T can be used as an I/O controller for air conditioning, UPS systems, generators, lighting or fans – ideal for IT environment management, building automation and preventive maintenance.

Full Control

Monitor the central unit and all four basic protection sensors, turn sensor data into actionable insights, and configure integrations – all through an intuitive, web-based interface.

  • Monitor real-time data from temperature, humidity, smoke and water sensors together
  • Create automated actions based on defined conditions
  • Send email, HTTP request, SNMP or other notifications
  • Visualize trends and logs for better decision-making
  • Manage users, permissions and access securely with three-tier control

Scalable, Reliable and Future-Proof

The Monitoring System 100T in this bundle is equipped with 10/100/1000 Mbit/s (Gigabit) Ethernet. The system supports up to 700 elements (sensors, triggers, logic schemes, notifications). Since the four basic protection sensors already occupy all analog ports, the fully free CAN bus port is available for additional sensors. Regular firmware updates ensure long-term usability. Made in the EU – with German support included.

Connecting CAN Sensors

Since all four analog ports of the Monitoring System 100T are occupied by the basic protection sensors, any further expansion takes place via the CAN bus port, which remains completely free in the bundle. Additional CAN devices can be daisy-chained together via this port – up to 24 CAN devices per chain are recommended, with a maximum of 32 devices per port. Each 8-port sensor expansion adds 8 additional analog sensors to the system, while each dry-contact expansion unit adds 32 or 64 additional dry-contact inputs. The total length of the CAN bus can be up to 230 m; an additional CAN power supply (12V/1A) is only required if the number of CAN devices in the chain exceeds the recommended limit.

Building Monitoring & Physical Security

Via the free CAN bus, the bundle can also be extended at any time with security sensors.

  • Magnetic contact sensors detect unauthorized opened doors and windows
  • Motion detectors secure server rooms and technical rooms
  • Vibration sensors detect tampering with racks
  • All security sensors are added later via the free CAN bus port

All sensor and alarm data is also logged with timestamps, supporting companies with ISO 27001, GDPR or industry-specific audits.
