Maximum reliability: Didactum LTE modem for server room and corporate monitoring
The Didactum LTE modem expansion module is a key component for reliable monitoring of server rooms and critical business areas. With support for sending and receiving SMS via 2G and 3G networks, as well as providing Ethernet connectivity over LTE (4G), this LTE modem offers a flexible and fail-safe communication solution for modern monitoring systems. In environments where the network connection cannot always be guaranteed, the LTE modem provides the necessary redundancy and security.
This module is the version optimized for Europe. It covers the LTE and GSM frequency bands commonly used in European mobile networks and is supplied by Didactum as standard including the matching additional antenna — no separate antenna purchase is required.
The current model can be easily identified visually: it has exactly one antenna connector. The older predecessor module (VT740) still had two antennas — with this module, the single supplied additional antenna is sufficient for full functionality.
Monitoring server rooms with LTE modem
In server rooms, continuous monitoring of all relevant environmental parameters and systems is essential to prevent outages and damage. The Didactum monitoring systems 100T, 300T, 500T, and 550T can be equipped with the LTE modem so that alarm messages and status information are reliably transmitted even if the LAN connection fails.
When a network outage occurs, the LTE modem automatically switches to LTE 4G and thus maintains the Ethernet connection. Through the modem, alarm contacts and sensors in the server room can be monitored around the clock. In the event of temperature deviations, humidity, smoke development, or unauthorized access, the system immediately sends notifications via SMS or SNMP to the responsible technicians and administrators.
Module layout at a glance
The slot board has three key controls that are relevant for installation and operation.
SIM card slot
Slot for a Micro-SIM card with integrated ejector mechanism. The SIM card is not included and must be obtained separately from a mobile provider.
Status LED
Indicates the operating status of the modem. If the LED is blinking, the modem is working correctly and connected to the mobile network.
Antenna connector
SMA connector for the additional antenna included in the package. The module has exactly one antenna connector.
Installing the LTE modem
The module can be installed while the system is running — it is not necessary to shut down the monitoring system. After powering on, it may take up to three minutes for the mobile provider information to update.
- Loosen the M3 screw on the LTE metal cover of the central unit
- Cut out the metal inserts with side cutters and dispose of them
- Insert the LTE slot board into the opening so that it slides into the guide rails and locks into the socket
- Reinsert the metal cover and secure it with the M3 screw
- Screw the supplied LTE antenna into the antenna connector
- Insert the Micro-SIM card into the SIM card slot (slot with ejector mechanism)
- Switch on or leave the monitoring system running — the mobile provider information will be updated automatically within up to 3 minutes
Note: Only the current device versions of the monitoring systems support this LTE modem. Older device versions are compatible only with the predecessor module (two antennas). If in doubt, our support team can help verify compatibility.
What is the IMEI number and where can I find it?
The IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique identifier assigned to every LTE modem and other mobile devices. It uniquely identifies the modem on the mobile network and allows mobile providers to check the device type and network compatibility.
The IMEI number is shown in the Didactum web interface only after a SIM card has been inserted into the modem and the information has been updated (this can take up to 5 minutes).
The IMEI number still does not appear in the web interface after inserting the SIM card? First check whether the SIM card is inserted correctly and the modem is switched on. Then open the modem settings or the device information area in the web interface. The IMEI number is also printed directly on the modem itself — note it down and provide it to your mobile provider so they can register the device on the network.
Frequency bands of the EU version
This LTE modem is specifically optimized for Europe and covers the mobile bands commonly used there. Before use, it is always advisable to check the frequency bands supported by your local mobile provider.
LTE-FDD
B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B20, B28, B66
LTE-TDD
B34, B38, B39, B40, B41
GSM (for SMS sending/receiving via 2G)
900 MHz, 1800 MHz
This band coverage is reliable for use in European mobile networks. For locations outside Europe with different frequency bands (for example North America, Asia, or Australia), the manufacturer’s international modem version is recommended, but this is not carried by Didactum.
Monitoring critical business areas
Not only in the server room, but also in other critical business areas such as technical rooms, production environments, warehouses, or power centers, reliable communication plays a decisive role. The Didactum LTE modem can be used wherever a stable network connection cannot be guaranteed at all times, such as in remote branches, field offices, or temporary sites.
Another application example is the monitoring of UPS systems, emergency generators, or air conditioning systems. Here too, the LTE modem can serve as a communication bridge and send immediate notifications in the event of faults. The ability to alert up to ten different phone numbers via SMS increases response speed and ensures that the right contact person is informed.
- Monitoring of server rooms and data centers with automatic alerting when the network connection fails
- Ensuring communication in technical rooms, production environments, and power centers
- Remote monitoring of branches and field offices without a fixed internet connection
- Monitoring and control of UPS systems, emergency generators, and air conditioning systems
- Use as a backup solution for critical networks in hospitals, public authorities, or industrial companies
- Remote maintenance of connected devices via the integrated remote reboot function
Setup via the web interface
Setup is carried out via the user-friendly web interface, where all settings for the mobile connection, SMS notifications, and network redundancy can be configured. Integration into existing monitoring systems such as the 100T, 300T, 500T, or 550T is straightforward and requires no special prior knowledge.
After installation, the LTE modem can be used immediately to secure the monitoring system’s communication. Thanks to support for DHCP and numerous protocols such as SNMP, SMTP, or Syslog, the LTE modem integrates seamlessly into the existing IT landscape. In addition, the modem can be controlled via AT commands, enabling deeper configuration for experienced users.

Frequently asked questions
Is the antenna included in the box?
Yes. Didactum supplies the LTE modem together with the matching additional antenna as standard. There is no need to purchase the antenna separately.
How many antennas does the module need?
This module has exactly one antenna connector and therefore requires only the single additional antenna supplied. The older predecessor module (VT740) still had two antenna connectors, so the two models can be easily distinguished by the number of antenna sockets.
Does the monitoring system need to be shut down for installation?
No. The module can be inserted into the expansion slot while the system is running. After installation, it may take up to three minutes for the mobile provider information to update.
What SIM card size is required?
The module requires a Micro-SIM card. The SIM card slot has an integrated ejector mechanism for easy insertion and removal.
How can I tell whether the modem is working correctly?
The status LED on the slot board shows the operating status: if the LED is blinking, the modem is working correctly and connected to the mobile network. In addition, the connection status and IMEI number can be viewed in the Didactum web interface once a SIM card has been inserted.
The modem has no signal or does not work — what can I do?
First make sure that the SIM card has an active, paid mobile/data contract. Also check whether the SIM card has become slightly bent after extended use — in that case, a new SIM card or careful straightening may help. Also verify that the additional antenna is firmly screwed onto the antenna connector.
In which countries can this modem be used?
This model is optimized for the LTE and GSM frequency bands commonly used in European mobile networks and is therefore suitable for reliable use within Europe. Before use, always check whether your local mobile provider supports the frequency bands used.
In which monitoring systems can the module be installed?
The LTE modem is compatible with the current device versions of the 100T, 300T, 500T, and 550T monitoring systems. Please note that only the current device version supports this module; older versions require the predecessor module with two antenna connectors.
