IT Basic Protection Bundle: 19" Central Unit with Temperature, Humidity, Water, and Smoke Monitoring
This Didactum bundle combines the Monitoring System 500T with four essential analog sensors - temperature, humidity, water, and smoke - to create a complete basic protection solution for data centers, server rooms, and other business-critical environments. It covers the four most common risk factors in IT environments right from the start: overheating, condensation, water ingress, and fire.
As a highly advanced 19"-1U control unit without moving parts, the Monitoring System 500T forms the central control and alerting unit of the bundle: it is connected to the network via Gigabit Ethernet, can be fully configured through the web browser, and requires no additional software. All four sensors are connected directly to the 500T's analog ports and are automatically detected via AutoSense - of the 8 permanently installed analog ports on the central unit, four are used for basic protection.
As your requirements grow, this bundle grows with them: four additional analog ports as well as the entire CAN bus port of the 500T remain free, so additional sensors or expansion units can be added at any time - without replacing the central unit.
This bundle includes:
Five perfectly matched Didactum products that together provide complete basic protection for data centers and server rooms.
Monitoring System 500T
The central 19"-1U monitoring and alerting unit that collects and evaluates all sensor data and automatically triggers alarms when thresholds are exceeded.
Temperature Sensor
A precise analog sensor for continuous measurement of room temperature.
Humidity Sensor
A compact analog sensor for measuring relative humidity.
Water Sensor
A capacitive leak sensor for reliable detection of water ingress.
Didactum Smoke Sensor
A photoelectric smoke detector for early fire detection in server rooms and technical areas.
Monitoring System 500T
The Monitoring System 500T is the central control unit of the bundle and a highly advanced, field-tested 19"-1U monitoring solution for data centers, server rooms, and other business-critical environments. As a standalone device without moving parts such as fans or hard drives, it continuously captures critical environmental parameters and alerts in real time long before they lead to costly downtime. Via 8 analog ports and one CAN bus port, sensors can be automatically detected by AutoSense, while 16 potential-free inputs and 4 relay outputs also make the 500T usable as an I/O controller for doors, fans, generators, or UPS systems. The system is now equipped with Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbit/s) and can be seamlessly integrated into monitoring environments such as Zabbix, PRTG, or Nagios thanks to SNMP, Modbus TCP/IP, and Syslog.
Temperature Sensor
The temperature sensor included in the bundle is used for precise monitoring and measurement of the internal temperature in the monitored room or rack and is connected directly to an analog port of the Monitoring System 500T via RJ11 plug. The device automatically detects the sensor, displays it in the web interface, and enables individual configuration of threshold values and notifications there. The sensor is wired, includes a 2-meter cable, and can be placed up to 100 meters away from the central unit if required, making it suitable for large data centers or adjacent rooms as well. As the first of four basic protection sensors, it provides reliable temperature data from the outset and forms the basis for automated cooling and alarm scenarios.
Humidity Sensor
The humidity sensor in the bundle complements the temperature sensor by measuring relative humidity and is also connected directly to the Monitoring System 500T via an analog port. With compact dimensions of just 60 × 18 × 18 mm and a power consumption of only 60 mW, it is space-saving and energy-efficient, allowing it to be mounted discreetly in racks, on walls, or on tabletops. Continuous humidity monitoring helps detect condensation risks early and ensures optimal conditions for sensitive IT equipment. With an optional connection cable that can be extended up to 50 meters, the sensor can be flexibly positioned exactly where humidity is to be monitored.
Water Sensor
The water sensor in the bundle detects moisture and leaks capacitively between two measuring poles made of stainless steel, which are enclosed in a robust, corrosion-resistant plastic housing. Thanks to its low operating voltage and non-metallic measuring principle, it remains functional in the long term even with prolonged contact with moisture. The sensor is plug-and-play compatible with any analog port of the Monitoring System 500T and is especially suitable for placement under raised floors, near air conditioning units, pipes, or server cabinets. With a response time of around 15 seconds, it triggers an alarm reliably and quickly in an emergency so that IT staff can respond immediately.
Didactum Smoke Sensor
The Didactum smoke sensor included in the bundle provides early fire detection and therefore protects the fourth critical risk factor in server rooms and technical areas. It operates on the photoelectric detection principle, is installed for ceiling mounting, and reports rising smoke long before it develops into a major fire with data loss and costly equipment damage. Through two RJ12 ports, the sensor can be connected directly to an analog port of the Monitoring System and can also be chained with up to 10 additional sensors, making it suitable for larger monitoring areas as well. With an average service life of at least 10 years and manufacturing in the EU, it is designed for long-term use in critical infrastructure.
Comprehensive sensor integration for the bundle
The Monitoring System 500T supports up to 130 sensors, contacts, and relays simultaneously - 8 analog RJ12 sensor ports are available directly on the device, and the CAN bus can expand this number to up to 64 sensors. The four sensors included in the bundle for temperature, humidity, water, and smoke occupy four of the eight analog ports and thus cover the four most common risk factors in IT rooms - four additional analog ports as well as the entire CAN bus port remain free for future expansion.
Temperature Sensor
Already included in the bundle: precise room temperature measurement with ±0.25 °C accuracy.
Humidity Sensor
Already included in the bundle: reliable measurement of relative humidity with ±3 % RH.
Water Sensor
Already included in the bundle: capacitive leak detection with approx. 15-second response time.
Smoke Sensor
Already included in the bundle: photoelectric fire detection for early warning.
Vibration & Dust Particle Sensors
Optionally retrofittable via free analog ports or the CAN bus for expanded protection.
Magnetic Contact & Voltage Sensors
Optionally retrofittable for access and power monitoring.
Thanks to the four remaining free analog ports and the completely free CAN bus port, the bundle can be expanded at any time with additional Didactum sensors or expansion units - ideal for developing from solid basic protection into a comprehensive data center monitoring network.
Real-time monitoring and automated alerting
The Monitoring System 500T reacts immediately to critical values from all four supplied sensors. When thresholds are exceeded, the system automatically sends email notifications, SMS, web-to-SMS, PUSH messages, or SNMP traps, or activates a siren. If the network fails, the device can even communicate via the mobile network and receive commands by SMS. Integration into monitoring software such as Zabbix, PRTG, or Nagios is easily possible thanks to common network protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, FTP, SNMP, Syslog, DHCP, Modbus TCP/IP).
Practical example: The smoke sensor in the server room detects the beginnings of smoke development. The system immediately sends an email and an SNMP trap to the security team, permanently logs the event, and can optionally shut down the power supply of affected racks via a relay output - preventing a major fire at an early stage.
Web-based control & intelligent automation
The intuitive web interface allows simple management of all four basic protection sensors as well as alarms and scenarios - right from the moment the bundle is put into operation.
- Temperature > 28 °C AND humidity < 30 % → activate fans, increase air conditioning, send email
- Water ingress detected → activate pump, trigger siren, send email notification
- Smoke detected → activate siren, switch off power supply via relay
- Humidity > threshold → send SMS to administrator (with optional LTE modem)
The Monitoring System 500T can be used as an I/O controller for air conditioning, UPS, generators, lighting, doors, or fans - ideal for data center management, building automation, and preventive maintenance.

In addition, a battery backup can optionally be retrofitted for all variants, temporarily supplying the device in the event of a complete failure of all mains inputs.
Scalable, reliable, and future-proof
The Monitoring System 500T in the bundle is equipped with 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet (Gigabit). The system supports up to 1000 elements (sensors, triggers, timers, logic schemes, notifications). Since the four basic protection sensors occupy only four of the eight analog ports, four free analog ports and the fully free CAN bus port are available for additional sensors. Regular firmware updates ensure long-term use. Made in the EU - German support included.
Connect CAN sensors
In addition to the four remaining analog ports, the Monitoring System 500T has a CAN bus port that remains completely free in the bundle. Multiple CAN devices can be connected together in a chain via this port. Each 8-port sensor expansion adds 8 additional analog sensors to the system, and each dry-contact expansion unit adds 32 or 64 additional dry-contact inputs. The maximum distance of CAN devices from the unit is up to 225 m; an additional CAN power supply (12V/1A) is only required if the number of CAN devices in the chain exceeds 12.
Building monitoring, video & physical security
Through the free ports and the CAN bus, the bundle can be expanded at any time to include security and video technology.
- Glass break sensors detect broken windows
- Motion detectors and door contacts secure server rooms and technical rooms
- Up to 4 IP cameras or one USB camera for visual monitoring

What is included in this bundle?
The bundle includes the Monitoring System 500T as the central 19" monitoring and alerting unit, plus four analog sensors: a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a water sensor, and a smoke sensor. Together, they cover the four most common risk factors in data centers and server rooms and are ready to use right out of the box.
Do I need to configure the sensors separately?
No. All four sensors are connected to the analog ports of the Monitoring System via RJ11/RJ12 cables and are automatically detected there via AutoSense. Each reading then appears as its own item in the web interface, where you can define individual threshold values.
How many analog ports remain free after connecting all four sensors?
The Monitoring System 500T has 8 analog ports. The four sensors in the bundle occupy four of them, leaving four additional ports as well as the entire CAN bus port available for extra sensors or expansion units.
What options are available and do I need to select them separately?
There are three option groups available for the Monitoring System 500T in the bundle: an expansion module (OSDPv2 reader or Modbus/RTU), an optional LTE modem, and the power supply (230V AC, 24-48V DC, each also redundant or as a hybrid variant). These options are not automatically included in the base price and must be selected directly on the product page above the "Add to cart" button. Without an active selection, we supply the device in the standard version (no expansion module, no modem, 230V AC single supply).
What power supply does the system need and how fail-safe is it?
The 500T can be operated either with 230V AC, with 24-48V DC, or redundantly from both sources - the appropriate option must be selected during ordering. In redundant or hybrid configuration, if one source fails, the second automatically takes over. In addition, a battery backup can optionally be retrofitted for all variants, temporarily supplying the device if all mains inputs fail completely.
How reliably does the smoke sensor detect a fire?
The Didactum smoke sensor operates on the photoelectric detection principle and detects even the smallest smoke particles in the air. It is designed for ceiling mounting, has an average service life of at least 10 years, and can be combined with up to 10 additional sensors using the daisy-chain method.
How are alarms and notifications sent?
The system offers various alerting methods: email notifications, SMS or web-to-SMS (optionally via LTE modem), SNMP traps, Syslog messages, and PUSH notifications. If the network fails, the 500T can communicate via the mobile network and even receive commands by SMS.
Can the bundle be integrated into existing IT infrastructures?
Yes, the Monitoring System 500T is specifically designed for integration into professional IT environments. It supports SNMP v1/v2c/v3, native Modbus TCP/IP, and Modbus RTU via an optional expansion, can be integrated into common monitoring platforms such as Nagios, PRTG, Zabbix, or Check_MK, and includes a web API for custom integrations.
