The robust SIP emergency call station with panic button
The Akuvox AV-E21A is a compact SIP intercom station specifically developed for use as an emergency call intercom. Instead of a classic call button, a robust panic button is located in the centre of the front panel, via which a voice connection is established immediately in an emergency. The manufacturer positions the entire E21 series for public areas such as multi-storey car parks, underground stations, company premises, educational institutions and medical facilities – i.e. places where help must be requested quickly and reliably in an emergency.
Two versions of the E21 series: Akuvox offers the series either as E21V with integrated camera or – as described here – as E21A without camera. The AV-E21A deliberately focuses on pure voice function and scores with a particularly plain, practically indestructible front panel.
The housing is made of grade 316 stainless steel and is impact- and shock-resistant according to IK10. In combination with the optionally available flush-mounted box, the station achieves IP65 protection rating and is therefore also suitable for continuous outdoor use.
Clear voice connection in an emergency
At the centre of the AV-E21A is a reliable, hands-free voice connection via IP – without a handset or buttons for call acceptance.
Hands-free audio with echo cancellation
Integrated microphone and speaker ensure clear conversations without disturbing echo.
Voice activity detection
Voice Activation Detection and Comfort Noise Generator for a natural-sounding connection.
Open SIP standard
Support for SIP v1 and v2 makes the station compatible with virtually any IP telephone system.
Ethernet & PoE
Connection via a single network cable that simultaneously provides the power supply.
How the AV-E21A is built
The design of the AV-E21A is deliberately reduced: the fewer moving and protruding parts, the less surface area for vandalism.
Front panel made of grade 316 stainless steel
The entire front consists of weather-resistant grade 316 stainless steel, as also used in marine and outdoor applications. Together with the IK10 classification, the front withstands deliberate blows and continuous stress.
Illuminated panic button
Instead of a conventional call button, a single robust button is located in the centre, which in an emergency immediately establishes a SIP connection to the stored remote station.
Reset button on the circuit board
An additional reset button is built in internally on the electronics and is intended exclusively for the installer to reset the device – it is not accessible from the outside.
Microphone and speaker
A microphone and speaker discreetly integrated into the front handle the hands-free connection including echo cancellation.
Rear connections
On the rear are the Ethernet connection with PoE support, two relay outputs, two inputs and a line-out connection – sufficient to connect, for example, a door or gate control.
Mounting and protection rating
The AV-E21A is designed as a flush-mounted device and is recessed flush into the wall. For full outdoor use with IP65 protection rating, a matching flush-mounted box is additionally required, which is available as a separate accessory.
From button press to help
The panic button is the central operating path of the AV-E21A – supplemented by the option to open a door or gate directly during the call.
- A button press immediately establishes a SIP voice connection to the stored remote station
- Hands-free function – no need to pick up or operate further buttons
- Two relays can be controlled individually via DTMF tones during the call
- Integration into existing SIP telephone systems or emergency call centres possible
Practical example: A person presses the panic button of the AV-E21A in a multi-storey car park. The responsible control centre answers the call, speaks directly with the person and, if required, opens a nearby barrier or door via DTMF tone so that help can arrive more quickly.
Integration into existing systems
The AV-E21A is designed as an open SIP device and can be integrated independently of the manufacturer of the rest of the telephone system.
SIP v1 & v2
Direct integration into IP telephone systems and emergency call centres via an open standard.
Codecs & DTMF
Narrowband and wideband audio as well as in-band and out-of-band DTMF for relay control.
IP network protocols
Support for common network protocols for operation, time synchronisation and remote access.
Linux operating system
The device runs on a standalone Linux system that is managed via the web interface.
Operation and maintenance from a distance
For professional operation, the AV-E21A includes several administrative functions that reduce installation and maintenance effort.
- Auto-provisioning for automated initial setup
- Management via a web-based management portal
- Web-based packet dump for network diagnostics
- Backup and restore of the configuration
- Export of access logs (Entry Logs)
- Export and import of access tables
- Firmware updates via the web interface
- System logs including door access logs
Built for continuous operation and vandalism protection
As an emergency call station in public space, the AV-E21A is exposed to potential weather and deliberate damage – the design is accordingly robust.
- Front panel made of grade 316 stainless steel
- Impact- and shock-resistant according to IK10
- IP65 protection rating with matching flush-mounted box
- NDAA-compliant and therefore also suitable for authorities
- CE, FCC and RCM certified
- Reset button accessible only internally
Commissioning in a few steps
Setting up the AV-E21A can be completed quickly even without prior knowledge.
- Select a matching flush-mounted box if outdoor use with IP65 is desired
- Mount the device flush and connect the Ethernet/PoE cable
- Perform basic setup and SIP configuration via the web interface of the station
- Store the destination number or control centre for the emergency call
- Optional: wire relays and inputs for door or gate control
