The compact video door intercom for every entrance
The Akuvox AV-E12W is a slim, single-button SIP video door intercom designed for single-family homes, apartments, offices, and smaller commercial sites. Despite its compact housing, it combines a 2-megapixel Full HD camera, an integrated 13.56 MHz NFC card reader, dual audio with anti-echo function, and weatherproof IP65 construction in a single device. It is equally suitable for private home entrances and smaller commercial access points.
Wireless or classic wired: The AV-E12W expands the Akuvox E12 series with a Wi-Fi variant featuring dual-band Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz) as well as Bluetooth 5.0 (BLE), and can additionally be operated via Ethernet (RJ45, 10/100 Mbit/s). Power is supplied either via Power over Ethernet (802.3af) or, if PoE is not available, via a separate 12V DC connection – network and power connection can therefore be freely chosen depending on the building situation. Within the same product line, Akuvox offers the E12S as a purely wired variant without Wi-Fi, while the AV-E12W is specifically intended for locations where no network cable can or should be run to the door.
Door opening is possible via a connected video station, via NFC card, via Bluetooth, or conveniently via the free Akuvox SmartPlus app on the smartphone – even when no one is on site.
Video, audio, and access in one device
The AV-E12W combines all the essential functions of a modern door intercom in a single, compact housing.
Full HD camera
2-megapixel camera for a clear image of visitors at the door.
Dual audio with anti-echo
Clear, lag-free conversations thanks to echo cancellation and noise filtering.
Dual-band Wi-Fi & Ethernet
Connection via Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) or classic Ethernet with PoE.
Bluetooth 5.0
BLE support for door opening directly from a smartphone nearby.
NFC card reader
Integrated 13.56 MHz reader for contactless access cards and tags.
SmartPlus app
Call answering, live image, and door opening from anywhere via smartphone.
How the AV-E12W is built
The housing of the AV-E12W is deliberately minimalist so that the device blends unobtrusively next to any entrance door.
Housing and mounting
Robust ABS plastic housing in silver, designed for classic surface mounting (on-wall) directly next to the door. Matching wall bracket, angle bracket, and a rain cover are available as separate accessories.
Front panel with camera and doorbell button
On the front of the device are the camera lens with a wide-angle field of view of 123° horizontal and 69° vertical, a light sensor, a white-light LED, and a single illuminated physical doorbell button – deliberately reduced to one connection so that operation remains self-explanatory for visitors.
Integrated card reader
Below the doorbell button is the 13.56 MHz NFC reader, which allows access cards or tags to be held directly at the door station without a separate reader.
Microphone and speaker
A discreetly integrated microphone and speaker handle the voice connection with dual-audio and anti-echo technology.
Connections on the rear
On the rear are the network connection for Ethernet/PoE, the 12V DC connection for operation without PoE, a door opener relay output, two inputs, and a microSD card slot (TF card) for local storage.
Housing tamper protection
An integrated tamper alarm detects when the housing is forcibly removed from the wall or opened and reports this as an additional alarm.
Flexible ways to open the door
Depending on the application, the AV-E12W can be used in different ways for access release.
- Release via a connected Akuvox video station in the building
- Holding a 13.56 MHz NFC card or tag to the integrated reader
- Door opening via Bluetooth directly from the smartphone
- Remote opening via the Akuvox SmartPlus app, even from away
Practical example: A visitor rings the doorbell at the front door. The resident receives the video call in the SmartPlus app on the smartphone, sees the visitor live, and opens the door if needed directly from the app – regardless of whether they are currently in the house.
Reliable image even in the dark
The camera of the AV-E12W is permanently active and automatically adapts to lighting conditions.
- Camera permanently in operation, no manual wake-up required
- Automatic night mode with white-light LED activation
- Automatic white balance for natural color reproduction
- Minimum illumination of 0.1 lux for recordings in very low light
- Relays can be individually controlled via DTMF tones, e.g. for two separate doors
- Tamper detection (tamper alarm) in case of forced dismantling
Integration into existing systems
The AV-E12W is designed as an open SIP device and can be used both standalone and in larger access and video environments.
SIP
Direct integration into IP telephone systems and SIP-capable endpoints.
ONVIF
Connection of the camera image to common video management and surveillance systems.

Connection of external Wiegand access components for extended access scenarios.
ACMS / SDMC
Central management of multiple Akuvox devices via the Akuvox management platforms, ideal for multi-family homes or multiple sites.
For voice transmission, the AV-E12W uses SIP versions v1 (RFC2543) and v2 (RFC3261) as well as the audio codecs G.711a, G.711µ, and G.722, supplemented by echo cancellation, voice activity detection (VAD), and a comfort noise generator for pleasant background noise during conversation pauses. On the network side, the device supports, among other things, IPv4, HTTP(S), FTP, DNS, NTP, RTSP, RTP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DHCP, and ARP. The camera delivers video streams in H.264 with resolutions from CIF to 1080p and can also be connected to third-party network video recorders (NVRs) thanks to ONVIF.
Also designed for many users standalone
The AV-E12W can manage access data locally on the device even without central management software.
Up to 5,000 users
Local user management directly on the device, even without ACMS/SDMC.
Up to 25,000 cards
Sufficient storage capacity even for larger residential complexes or sites.
Mifare & DESFire
Supports Mifare cards as well as DESFire cards (EV1/EV2/EV3).
According to the manufacturer, the integrated NFC reader for door opening via smartphone (instead of a card) only works with Android devices. For iPhones, Bluetooth (BLE 5.0) and the Akuvox SmartPlus app are available for door opening instead.
