Switchable PDU with 8 Switchable Power Outlets Including Monitoring Functions
This fully SNMP-compatible PDU (Power Distribution Unit) from Didactum is used to control connected devices in the IT rack. In addition to 8 switchable C13 power outlets, this Ethernet-based power strip offers the user important functions for physical environmental monitoring. In combination with the optionally available GSM modem, individual or all sockets can be switched via SMS command as part of out-of-band management.
Typical use cases for this intelligent PDU 8T include:
- Control of power/voltage distribution in technical or IT racks
- Switching systems on and off via TCP/IP network or web
- SNMP-based (Simple Network Management Protocol) power distribution in technical rooms, server rooms, and data centers
- Environmental monitoring as part of IT infrastructure monitoring
Switch up to 8 connected devices on and off remotely via LAN or WAN, or use this intelligent power strip to initiate a restart/reboot of, for example, unresponsive servers. You can conveniently manage this intelligent PDU 8T via the German-language web interface. Each of the 8 switched power outlets (C13) can be individually configured in the German web GUI.
Define the required automatic actions in the integrated logic of this intelligent power strip. In interaction with the connected sensors (temperature sensor, DC sensor, AC sensor, etc.), individual or all power sockets can be switched. If, for example, the leakage sensor detects water damage, you can set the logic of the PDU to immediately cut off the power supply to connected systems.
As part of Green IT, the power supply to individual – currently unnecessary – IT systems can be selectively switched off.
Switchable Power Strip Including IT Infrastructure Monitoring
The Ethernet-based PDU 8T offers, in addition to 8 switchable C13 power outlets, 2 further ports for IP-capable sensors. For example, connect the precise temperature sensor for temperature monitoring in the technical or server room. The extensive sensor range offers a wide selection of different IP sensors. The intelligent analog sensors are simply connected to the switchable PDU 8T via plug and play and automatically recognized. You can set up to 5 thresholds for each connected sensor and then define the required notification or alert.
The PDU 8T offers you notifications / alarm messages such as:
- Email notification to up to 10 different recipients
- SMS message (3rd party gateway or optional LTE modem required)
- SNMP traps to monitoring software or network management systems (e.g., Nagios XI, Paessler PRTG, Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold, Zabbix, etc.)
- SNMP trap receiver functions / SNMPset / SNMPget
- Actuator functions such as switching the 8 built-in power outlets or switching the two 12V signal outputs
I/O ports for IP connection of potential-free fault detectors
The SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3 compatible PDU 8T offers 2 potential-free inputs for fault detector contacts. Use 2-wire technology to connect the fault detectors of your fire alarm or extinguishing system, your air conditioning or cooling system, your emergency power generator, or your UPS system. In this simple way, you integrate important building technology systems into the Ethernet-based 24x7 monitoring of the intelligent PDU 8T.
Two 12V outputs enable the automatic switching of connected alarm sirens or the forwarding of important alarm messages to the alarm system or building monitoring. The built-in logic of the PDU 8T allows the convenient creation of automatic actions and rules. Additionally, time filter and trigger functions are offered.
CAN connection for up to 8 CAN sensors or CAN units
The PDU 8T also offers a connection for CAN sensors and CAN units. Connect further important sensors for permanent environmental and security monitoring. In addition to combined sensors, we also offer CAN-based expansion units for potential-free contacts or sensor expansion modules.
This allows you to intensify IT infrastructure monitoring with the help of SNMP-compatible sensors. Up to 8 CAN sensors or CAN units can be connected to the PDU 8T. The maximum length of the serial RJ-12 cabling can be up to 225 meters.
Integration of the switchable PDU into Nagios or SNMP monitoring software
The PDU 8T supports SNMP protocols v1, v2c, and v3 (encrypted). MIB files for SNMP-compatible SCADA solutions and network management systems (e.g., Nagios XI, check_MK, openITCOCKPIT, OpenNMS, Paessler PRTG, WhatsUp Gold, Zabbix) are included with this switchable PDU. SNMPset and SNMPget commands are supported.
GSM modem module – optionally available
In the event of internet connection disruptions or failure of important network components, it is highly advisable to be alerted directly from the technical or server room via SMS messages over the GSM network. The reason is that if the (V)DSL connection fails, no emails can be sent. Alarm messages from production, logistics, or the IT room can then no longer reach the responsible employees. For example, a failure of the air conditioning in the IT room can lead to unplanned and expensive IT downtime.
By procuring the modem, you ensure that the monitoring system sends notifications and alarms via SMS in the event of critical incidents (water ingress / power failure / fire, etc.). This way, you receive important messages and alarms directly on your mobile phone/smartphone. Integrated macro functions of the monitoring system offer individual customization of the SMS message content. Via SMS remote query, you can conveniently determine the currently measured temperature or humidity in the warehouse or server room.
