The robust video door intercom for narrow installation situations
The Akuvox AV-R20A is a compact SIP video door intercom with an aluminium front panel, specially developed for installation situations with limited space – the manufacturer compares its size to an iPhone XR. Despite its slim design, the device combines a 2-megapixel Full HD camera with infrared LEDs for night vision, an integrated card reader for 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz cards, and a weatherproof IP65 housing made of die-cast aluminium.
Flexible mounting: The AV-R20A can be installed either flush-mounted (recessed into the wall) or surface-mounted. Matching mounting accessories – flush-mount installation kit, surface-mount wall bracket, angle bracket and rain covers for both mounting types – are available separately. Connection is exclusively wired via Ethernet with Power over Ethernet (802.3af); there is no Wi-Fi version as with the Akuvox E12 series for the R20A, making the device particularly interesting for locations where a stable, wired network connection is desired.
Door opening is possible via a connected video station, by card at the integrated reader, or conveniently via the Akuvox SmartPlus app on the smartphone.
Video, audio and access in one device
The AV-R20A combines all the essential functions of a professional door intercom in a compact, robust housing.
Full HD camera with IR LED
2-megapixel camera with infrared additional lighting for a clear image even at night.
Dual audio with anti-echo
Clear, lag-free conversations thanks to echo cancellation and noise filtering.
Ethernet & PoE
Connection exclusively by cable – stable connection without Wi-Fi dependency.
Card reader 13.56 MHz & 125 kHz
Integrated reader for modern and older card technologies in one device.
SmartPlus app
Call answering, live image and door opening from anywhere via smartphone.
How the AV-R20A is built
The housing of the AV-R20A is deliberately slim so that the device can also be accommodated in narrow wall niches or next to door frames.
Aluminium front panel
The front consists of robust die-cast aluminium instead of plastic, giving the device additional mechanical stability for continuous outdoor use.
Camera section with night vision
Camera optics with a field of view of 110° horizontal and 58° vertical, supplemented by infrared LEDs, a light sensor and a motion sensor for detecting activity in front of the door.
Doorbell button with card reader
A single illuminated doorbell button is located directly above the integrated card reader for 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz RFID technologies.
Microphone and speaker
Discreetly built-in microphone and speaker handle the voice connection with dual-audio and anti-echo technology.
Connections on the rear
On the rear are the Ethernet connection with PoE, two relay outputs, two inputs as well as interfaces for Wiegand and RS485 for connecting external access components.
Mounting type and tamper protection
The housing can be mounted either flush or surface-mounted and is equipped with a tamper alarm against forced dismantling.
Flexible ways to open the door
Depending on the application, the AV-R20A can be used in different ways for access release.
- Release via a connected Akuvox video station in the building
- Holding a 13.56 MHz or 125 kHz card to the integrated reader
- Remote opening via the Akuvox SmartPlus app, even from away
- Individual control of two separate relays via DTMF tones, e.g. for door and gate
Practical example: A delivery driver rings at the works gate. The responsible employee receives the video call in the SmartPlus app, sees the person live even in the dark thanks to the IR LEDs and, if needed, specifically opens one of the two connected gates directly from the app.
Reliable image even in the dark
The camera of the AV-R20A is permanently active and automatically adapts to lighting conditions.
- Camera permanently in operation, no manual wake-up required
- Infrared LEDs for recordings in complete darkness
- Automatic white balance for natural colour reproduction
- Minimum illumination of 0.1 lux for recordings in very low light
- Two relays can be controlled independently of each other via DTMF tones
- Motion sensor and tamper alarm for additional security
Integration into existing systems
The AV-R20A is designed as an open SIP device and can be used both standalone and in larger access and video environments.
SIP
Direct integration into IP telephone systems and SIP-capable endpoints.
ONVIF
Connection of the camera image to common video management and surveillance systems.
Wiegand & RS485
Connection of external access readers or serial third-party devices via two open interfaces.
ACMS / SDMC
Central management of multiple Akuvox devices via the Akuvox management platforms, ideal for multiple sites or access points.
For voice transmission, the AV-R20A uses SIP versions v1 (RFC2543) and v2 (RFC3261) as well as the audio codecs G.711a, G.711µ and G.722, supplemented by echo cancellation, voice activity detection and a comfort noise generator. On the network side, the device supports, among other things, IPv4, HTTP(S), FTP, DNS, NTP, RTSP, RTP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DHCP and ARP. The camera delivers video streams in H.264 with resolutions from CIF to 1080p and can also be connected to third-party network video recorders (NVRs) thanks to ONVIF.
Also designed for many users standalone
The AV-R20A can manage access data locally on the device even without central management software.
Up to 4,000 users
Local user management directly on the device, even without ACMS/SDMC.
Up to 20,000 cards
Sufficient storage capacity even for larger sites with many authorised persons.
EM, Mifare & DESFire
Supports EM cards (125 kHz), Mifare cards as well as DESFire cards (EV1/EV2/EV3).
According to the manufacturer, the integrated NFC reader for door opening via smartphone (instead of a card) only works with Android devices. iPhone users open the door conveniently via the Akuvox SmartPlus app or by card instead.
Maintenance and operation from remote
For professional operation and remote maintenance, the AV-R20A includes several administrative functions.
- Auto-provisioning for automated initial setup
- Management via a web-based management portal
- Web-based packet dump for network diagnostics
- Backup and restore of the configuration
- Export of access logs (entry logs)
- Export and import of access tables
- Firmware updates via the web interface
- System logs including door access logs
Robustly built for continuous outdoor use
As a door station, the AV-R20A is exposed to the elements and potential sabotage – the design is accordingly geared toward continuous operation.
- Aluminium front panel for additional mechanical robustness
- IP65 protection rating against dust and water jets
- Integrated tamper alarm in case of forced dismantling
- Motion sensor for additional environmental detection
Commissioning in a few steps
Setting up the AV-R20A can be completed in a short time even without prior knowledge.
- Determine mounting type: use flush-mount installation kit or surface-mount wall bracket
- Mount the device and connect the Ethernet/PoE cable
- Perform basic setup via the web interface of the door station
