dualThe Akuvox AV-E16C is a commercially deployable video door intercom that combines intercom functionality and access control in one device. Via a 5-inch touchscreen and a current deep learning algorithm, it recognises faces reliably and uses two cameras for liveness detection, which prevents photos or videos from being used to deceive the system. This makes the AV-E16C suitable both for residential complexes and for commercial properties that require a flexible, multi-level access solution.
Multiple ways to gain access: In addition to face recognition, the door can be opened via an EM or Mifare card, a PIN code directly on the touchscreen, Bluetooth (BLE 5.0) or a QR code. The AV-E16C is fundamentally surface-mounted; a flush-mount box as well as a surface-mount wall bracket and a rain cover are available as separate accessories. Connection is via Ethernet (RJ45, 10/100 Mbps) with Power over Ethernet according to 802.3af, or alternatively via a 12 V DC connection if PoE is not available.
In addition, the AV-E16C has an anti-epidemic function with mask detection; body temperature measurement is only available on the variants E16C(MD01) and E16C(MD02).

How the AV-E16C is built
The housing of the AV-E16C consists of a robust plastic housing (PC) and is built around a large touchscreen as well as two cameras for face recognition.
Black plastic housing
Unlike the aluminium door stations of the R and X series, the AV-E16C uses a robust PC plastic housing in black, designed for commercial outdoor use.
Dual camera for face recognition
A 2-megapixel main camera with WDR exposure and a second 2-megapixel secondary camera with automatic light adaptation capture the face from two perspectives, enabling liveness detection against photo or video spoofing attempts. A field of view of 36° horizontal and 62° vertical as well as an infrared LED and a light sensor complement the camera section.
5-inch touchscreen
The central IPS touchscreen with 720×1280 pixels is used for operation, entering PIN codes, scanning QR codes and displays the live image during a call.
Card reader
Below the display is the integrated card reader for 13.56 MHz EM and Mifare cards.
Connections on the rear
On the rear are the Ethernet connection with PoE (alternatively a 12 V DC connection), one relay output, one input as well as a selectable Wiegand port (input/output) and an RS485 interface for connecting external access components.
Mounting type and tamper protection
The AV-E16C is fundamentally surface-mounted and is equipped with a tamper alarm against forced dismantling. For flush mounting, a matching mounting box is optionally available as an accessory.

Depending on the application, the AV-E16C can be used in different ways for access release – the manufacturer refers to this as multi-way access.

Practical example: An employee arrives at the office in the morning without an ID card. Instead of having to wait at the door, they simply step in front of the AV-E16C: face recognition identifies them in under 200 milliseconds and opens the door automatically – while visitors can still be received by doorbell call and video.

On the network side, the AV-E16C supports, among other things, IPv4, HTTP(S), FTP, DNS, NTP, RTSP, RTP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DHCP and ARP and can also be connected to third-party network video recorders (NVRs) thanks to ONVIF. For the voice connection, two-way audio transmission over IP networks with echo cancel function is used.

According to the manufacturer, the integrated NFC reader for door opening via smartphone (instead of a card) only works with Android devices. iPhone users open the door via face recognition, PIN code, QR code, Bluetooth or card instead.

Commissioning in a few steps
