The compact video door intercom with call buttons for tight spaces
The Akuvox AV-R20BX2 is a compact SIP video door intercom with an aluminium front panel and two call buttons with nameplates. It is particularly suitable for installation situations with limited space and is typically used in villas, single-family homes and smaller multi-family buildings. Despite its compact design, the device combines a 2-megapixel camera with automatic exposure and infrared LEDs for night vision as well as an integrated card reader for 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz cards.
Certified for outdoor use: The weatherproof housing with IP65 protection rating is protected against dust and water jets and can be mounted either flush or surface-mounted. Connection is exclusively wired via Ethernet with Power-over-Ethernet (802.3af); there is no Wi-Fi version for the R20BX2, which makes the device particularly interesting for locations where a stable, wired network connection is preferred.
Door opening is available via a connected video station, by card at the integrated reader or conveniently via the Akuvox SmartPlus app on a smartphone.
Video, audio and access in one device
The AV-R20BX2 combines all the essential functions of a professional door intercom station in a compact, robust housing.
Full HD camera with IR LED
2-megapixel camera with automatic exposure and infrared auxiliary lighting for a clear image even at night.
Two call buttons with nameplate
Illuminated call buttons with space for an individual nameplate per residential unit.
Two-way audio with echo cancellation
Clear, lag-free conversations thanks to echo cancellation and noise filtering.
Ethernet & PoE
Connection exclusively by cable – stable connection without Wi-Fi dependency.
Card reader 13.56 MHz & 125 kHz
Integrated reader for modern and older card technologies in one device.
SmartPlus app
Call acceptance, live image and door opening from anywhere via smartphone.
How the AV-R20BX2 is built
The housing of the AV-R20BX2 is deliberately compact so that the device can also be installed in narrow wall niches or next to door frames.
Front panel made of aluminium alloy
The front is made of robust aluminium alloy rather than plastic, giving the device additional mechanical stability for continuous outdoor use.
Camera section with infrared LED
Camera optics with a field of view of 110° horizontal and 58° vertical, complemented by infrared LEDs, a light sensor and a motion sensor for detecting activity in front of the door.
Two call buttons with nameplate
Arranged below: two illuminated call buttons, each with a field for an individual nameplate.
Card reader
Integrated RF reader for 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz cards below the call buttons.
Microphone and speaker
A discreetly built-in microphone and speaker handle the voice connection with echo cancellation.
Rear connections
On the rear are the Ethernet connection with PoE, two relay outputs, two inputs as well as interfaces for Wiegand and RS485 for connecting external access components.
Mounting type and tamper protection
The housing can be mounted either flush or surface-mounted and is equipped with a tamper alarm against forced removal.
Flexible ways to open the door
Depending on the application, the AV-R20BX2 can be used in different ways for access release.
- Release via a connected Akuvox video station in the building
- Presenting a 13.56 MHz or 125 kHz card to the integrated reader
- Remote opening via the Akuvox SmartPlus app, including from on the go
- Control of two separate relays individually via DTMF tones, e.g. for door and gate
Practical example: A visitor rings the doorbell at a multi-family building. The responsible resident receives the video call in the SmartPlus app, sees the person live even in darkness thanks to the IR LEDs and opens the door if required directly from the app.
Reliably in the picture even in darkness
The camera of the AV-R20BX2 is permanently active and automatically adapts to the light conditions.
- Camera permanently in operation, no manual wake-up required
- Auto night mode with LED lighting in darkness
- Automatic white balance for natural colour reproduction
- Minimum illuminance of 0.1 lux for recordings in very low light
- Two relays can be controlled independently of each other via DTMF tones
- Motion sensor and tamper alarm for additional security
Integration into existing systems
The AV-R20BX2 is designed as an open SIP device and can be used both standalone and in larger access and video environments.
SIP
Direct integration into IP telephone systems via SIP v1 (RFC2543) and v2 (RFC3261).
ONVIF
Connection of the camera image to common video management and surveillance systems.
Wiegand & RS485
Connection of external access readers or serial third-party devices via two open interfaces.
Linux operating system
Lean, resource-efficient operating system for reliable continuous operation.
For voice transmission, the AV-R20BX2 uses the audio codecs G.711a, G.711µ and G.722, supplemented by echo cancellation, voice activity detection and a comfort noise generator. On the network side, the device supports among others IPv4, HTTP(S), FTP, DNS, NTP, RTSP, RTP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DHCP and ARP. The camera delivers video streams in H.264 with resolutions from CIF to 1080p at up to 30 frames per second and can also be connected to network video recorders (NVRs) from third-party manufacturers thanks to ONVIF.
Also designed as a standalone unit for multiple residential units
The AV-R20BX2 can manage access data locally on the device even without central management software.
Up to 4,000 users
Local user management directly on the device for multi-family buildings and commercial properties.
Up to 20,000 cards
And up to 1,000 contacts – sufficient storage capacity even for larger properties.
EM, Mifare & DESFire
Supports EM cards (125 kHz), Mifare cards as well as DESFire cards (EV1/EV2/EV3).
Maintenance and operation from a distance
For professional operation and remote maintenance, the AV-R20BX2 includes several administrative functions.
- Auto-provisioning for automated initial setup
- Management via a web-based management portal
- Web-based packet dump for network diagnostics
- Backup and restore of the configuration
- Export of access logs (Entry Logs)
- Export and import of access tables
