The Akuvox AV-X912S is a SIP video door intercom with a stainless steel front panel, which the manufacturer specifically positions for premium residential and commercial projects. Thanks to its compact design, the device is, according to Akuvox, particularly well suited for buildings with limited installation space, without compromising on features or robustness. At its center is a 4-inch touch-sensitive color display, combined with a touch-sensitive numeric keypad, two cameras, and an RF card reader – all housed in a vandal-resistant enclosure rated IP65 and impact-resistant to IK10.
Designed for premium property protection: The dark, matte stainless steel finish ("Tarnish") underscores the device's high-quality character while also being resistant to scratches and fingerprints. The AV-X912S can be mounted either flush or on the surface and is powered either via PoE+ or an external 12 V power supply.
Door release can be carried out via facial recognition, the integrated card or NFC reader, PIN code entry on the touch keypad, Bluetooth (BLE), or QR code.

How the AV-X912S is built
The housing of the AV-X912S is designed as a closed stainless steel unit with clearly organized functional areas. From top to bottom, the device can be divided into the following sections:
Camera section with dual camera
In the upper area sit the main camera and a second, independent secondary camera (each 2 megapixels), complemented by an infrared LED for recording in darkness. The wide-angle optics cover a field of view of 125° horizontal and 65° vertical and are permanently active.
4-inch touchscreen
Below this sits the 4-inch color TFT display with 480x480 pixels. Video calls, visitor display, and operation of the integrated directory all run via the touchscreen.
Touch numeric keypad
In the lower front area is a touch-sensitive, backlit numeric keypad (0–9) for PIN code entry, with no moving mechanical keys – an advantage for vandal resistance and low maintenance.
Card and NFC reader
The RF reader for 13.56 MHz (including MIFARE, DESFire) and 125 kHz cards (EM), as well as NFC, is integrated into the front panel.
Microphone and speaker
Two microphones and a speaker handle two-way voice communication, including echo cancellation; an additional line output allows connection of an external speaker or amplifier.
Connections on the rear
On the rear are the Ethernet connection with Power over Ethernet (802.3at), a connection for an external 12 V power supply (if PoE+ is not available), an additional 12 V/1 A power output for supplying external small devices, two relay outputs for door openers, three inputs, as well as interfaces for Wiegand (input/output selectable) and RS485.
Housing, mounting, and tamper protection
The front panel is made of stainless steel in a dark "Tarnish" finish, and the overall housing is protected to IP65 against dust and jetting water as well as to IK10 against mechanical impact – the highest impact resistance class within the Akuvox door station range. Mounting can be either flush or surface-mounted; a tamper alarm reports forced removal attempts.
Five ways to open the door
The AV-X912S combines classic and biometric access methods in one device.
- Facial recognition directly via the integrated dual camera
- Presenting an EM, MIFARE, or DESFire card at the RF reader
- Entering a personal PIN code on the touch numeric keypad
- Release via Bluetooth (BLE) using a paired smartphone
- Scanning a QR code, for example for time-limited visitor access
Practical example: A resident of a premium residential complex approaches the entrance. The AV-X912S recognizes the face in under 200 ms and opens the door automatically. A visitor without a stored face instead enters a previously received PIN code on the touchscreen or scans a time-limited QR code.

For voice transmission, the AV-X912S uses the SIP versions v1 (RFC2543) and v2 (RFC3261) as well as the audio codecs G.711a, G.711µ, and G.722, complemented by echo cancellation, voice activity detection, and a comfort noise generator. On the network side, the device supports, among others, IPv4, HTTP(S), FTP, DNS, NTP, RTSP, RTP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DHCP, and ARP. The camera delivers video streams in H.264 with resolutions from CIF up to 1080p.
