How the AV-X915S is built
The housing of the AV-X915S is designed as a closed stainless steel unit with clearly structured functional areas. From top to bottom, the device can be divided into the following sections:
Camera section with dual camera
In the upper area are the 5-megapixel main camera with Starlight technology for low-light environments and a 2-megapixel secondary camera with automatic light adjustment. The optics are complemented by an infrared LED, an additional white light LED, a light sensor and a motion sensor. The field of view covers 120° horizontal and 64° vertical.
8-inch touchscreen
Centrally located in the housing is the 8-inch IPS display with 800x1280 pixels. Video calls, visitor display, PIN entry and operation of the integrated directory are handled via the touchscreen – controlled by an open Android operating system.
Card and NFC reader
Below the display is the RF reader for 13.56 MHz (including MIFARE, DESFire) and 125 kHz cards (EM) as well as NFC for door opening via compatible smartphone.
Microphones and speakers
Two microphones and two speakers handle the two-way voice connection including echo cancellation; an additional line output allows the connection of an external speaker or amplifier.
Rear connections
On the rear are the Ethernet connection with Power-over-Ethernet (802.3at), a connector for 24 V DC power supply (2.5 A), three relay outputs for door openers or additional devices, three inputs as well as interfaces for Wiegand (input/output selectable) and RS485.
Housing, mounting and tamper protection
The front panel is made of 316 stainless steel in a dark “Tarnish” finish; the overall housing is protected to IP66 against dust and strong water jets as well as to IK10 against mechanical impact – the highest protection class combination in the Akuvox door station portfolio. Mounting is possible either flush or surface-mounted; a tamper alarm reports forced removal attempts.
Five ways to open the door
The AV-X915S combines classic and biometric access methods in one device.
- Facial recognition directly via the integrated dual camera
- Presenting an EM, MIFARE or DESFire card to the RF reader
- Entering a personal PIN code on the touchscreen
- Release via Bluetooth (BLE) with a paired smartphone
- Scanning a QR code, for example for time-limited visitor access
Practical example: A resident of an exclusive residential complex approaches the entrance. The AV-X915S recognises the face in under 200 ms – reliably even at dusk thanks to the Starlight camera – and opens the door automatically. A visitor instead scans a previously received QR code or enters a PIN code on the touchscreen.

Connection of the camera image to common video management and surveillance systems, including network video recorders (NVRs) from third-party manufacturers.
Wiegand & RS485
The Wiegand port can be operated as input or output as required; via this as well as via RS485, external access readers or third-party devices can be connected.
Android customisation
The open Android operating system allows the installation of third-party software for project-specific customisations.
For voice transmission, the AV-X915S uses SIP versions v1 (RFC2543) and v2 (RFC3261) as well as the audio codecs G.711a, G.711µ and G.722, supplemented by echo cancellation, voice activity detection and a comfort noise generator. On the network side, the device supports among others IPv4, HTTP(S), FTP, DNS, NTP, RTSP, RTP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DHCP and ARP. The camera delivers video streams in H.264 with resolutions from CIF to 1080p.

Commissioning in a few steps
