AKCP Battery Temperature Sensor (BTTS) – Precise Battery Temperature Monitoring
Professional Temperature Monitoring for Batteries and Accumulators
Continuous temperature monitoring of installed batteries is a critical factor for their lifespan and safety. Especially the battery packs of UPS systems require around-the-clock battery temperature measurement and control. With the AKCP BTTS temperature sensor, you ensure that your batteries and accumulators are not exposed to critical under- or overtemperatures.
The BTTS battery temperature sensor from AKCP was specifically developed for the precise measurement of battery internal temperature. By mounting it directly on the negative battery terminal, an optimal thermal connection to the internal battery plates is achieved. This positioning enables the actual internal temperature of the battery to be recorded with the highest accuracy—significantly more precise than conventional ambient temperature sensors.
Technical Specifications of the BTTS
The microprocessor-controlled temperature sensor offers impressive technical features for battery monitoring. The measurement range extends from -55°C to +75°C (-67°F to +167°F), making it suitable for practically all battery applications. The measurement accuracy is ±0.5°C in the range from -10°C to +75°C for sensorProbe+ and securityProbe series, while sensorProbe series achieve an accuracy of ±1°C.
The resolution varies depending on the base system used: for sensorProbe+ and securityProbe series, it is 0.1°C, while for sensorProbe series it is 1°C. The sensor features an RJ-45 interface and is connected via UTP CAT5e/6 cable. With a maximum cable length of 1000 feet (300 meters), it offers flexible installation options.
Isolation Against Environmental Influences
A special feature of the BTTS sensor is its specific insulation. The sensor chip is intentionally isolated to protect it from interference caused by fluctuations in ambient temperature. This construction ensures that only the actual internal battery temperature is measured, without distortion from external influences.
Easy Installation and Configuration
The installation of the AKCP temperature sensor is extremely simple. The sensor is attached directly to the negative terminal of the battery to be monitored and connected via the supplied cable to a free sensor port of the Ethernet-based sensorProbe or securityProbe monitoring device. The compact dimensions of 56 x 55 x 33.3 mm allow space-saving installation, both via DIN rail and screw mounting.
Intelligent Alarm Functions
Thanks to the SNMP OID (Object Identifier) feature, the temperature sensor is automatically recognized by the IP-based monitoring system and displayed in the web interface. Here, individual threshold and limit values for battery temperature can be defined. If these values are under- or exceeded, an automatic alarm is triggered via email, SMS, or SNMP trap to network management systems such as Nagios, PRTG, or SolarWinds.
Application Areas of the BTTS
- Temperature monitoring of UPS battery packs in data centers and server rooms
- Battery temperature control for emergency diesel generators and backup power systems
- Internal temperature measurement of lithium-ion accumulators on charge controllers
- Overheating alarm in case of battery overcharge or excessive charging voltage
- Lifespan monitoring through continuous temperature control
- Safety monitoring in critical infrastructures
- Maintenance optimization through preventive temperature analysis
- Energy efficiency control in renewable energy systems
Key Insights on Battery Temperature
The optimal operating temperature for most batteries and accumulators is +20°C. An increased ambient temperature of +30°C can reduce the lifespan of a battery by up to 50%. Similarly, temperatures that are too low can significantly impair battery capacity and lifespan. The BTTS sensor helps identify these critical temperature ranges and take timely countermeasures.
Continuous battery monitoring with the AKCP BTTS not only contributes to extending battery lifespan but also increases operational safety and reduces downtime. Precise temperature measurement allows maintenance intervals to be optimized and costly battery failures to be avoided.
