The IO-Digital8 Sensor from AKCP is a highly advanced expansion component, specifically developed for integration into securityProbe or Expansion Module Base Units. This innovative solution enables professional monitoring of up to 8 dry contacts via a single intelligent sensor interface, offering a cost-effective way to extend existing monitoring systems.

Core Features and Application Areas

The IODC8 Sensor serves as a central collection point for a wide variety of alarm and status signals. With its capability to monitor 8 separate dry contacts, critical infrastructure systems such as UPS devices, emergency power systems, air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems can be monitored simultaneously. The alarm/normal indication in the securityProbe 5E web interface ensures immediate notification of status changes, enabling proactive maintenance and fast response times.

The contact voltage of 5 volts with pull-up dry contacts enables reliable signal detection, while multiple measurements per second guarantee a high input measurement rate. Each of the 8 dry contacts can be individually configured as normally open or normally closed, providing maximum flexibility for integrating various types of equipment.

Product Variants: Two Solutions for Different Requirements

AKCP offers the IO-Digital8 Sensor in two different versions to meet the specific needs of various installation environments:

Variant 1: IO-Digital8 with 8x 2-pin connectors

The first version features a single RJ45 port at one end and 8 separate 2-pin dry contact connectors along one side. This configuration is particularly suitable for installations where different devices are to be connected directly via short cable connections. The individual 2-pin connectors provide maximum flexibility in wiring and allow for easy identification of individual contacts during installation and maintenance.

Variant 2: IO-Digital8 with 2x RJ45 ports

The second unit also features a single RJ45 port at one end, but the 8 separate 2-pin dry contact connectors are replaced by two RJ45 ports, each compatible with 4 dry contacts. This variant is ideal for structured cabling environments where standardized RJ45 connections are preferred. The use of RJ45 ports enables longer cable runs and simplifies integration into existing network infrastructures.

Technical Specifications and Installation

The sensor supports a maximum communication cable length of 305 meters (1000 feet) when using approved low-capacity shielded cables or UTP Cat5 cables. The electrical output voltage can provide up to 20mA per dry contact (in low status), which is sufficient for most monitoring applications.

DIN rail mounting or wall mounting offers flexible installation options. Particularly practical is the autosense function with disconnect alarm, which automatically detects and reports connection problems. Power is supplied entirely via the sensorProbe or securityProbe, so no additional power source is required.

Safety Aspects and Maintenance

An important safety aspect is that the dry contacts are not isolated, so voltage sources must not be connected. The dry contact output is not suitable for directly driving relays, which must be considered during system planning.

The compact dimensions of 132mm x 54mm x 34mm allow for space-saving installation even in tight environments. The robust construction ensures reliable operation in industrial and commercial settings.
