Comprehensive Server Room and Infrastructure Monitoring with the Didactum 4-20mA Connector
The Didactum 4-20mA Connector is a central element for professional server room monitoring and the monitoring of critical infrastructure. With this connector, analog sensors that output a 4-20mA current signal can be directly integrated into the network-based monitoring of Didactum monitoring systems. This makes it possible to centrally record and evaluate a wide range of measured values such as temperature, humidity, pressure, fill level, or even industrial process values. Especially in sensitive areas such as server rooms, data centers, or critical company sectors, this flexible integration is a decisive advantage.
Installation of the Didactum 4-20mA Connector
The installation of the 4-20mA connector is straightforward and can also be easily retrofitted in existing systems. The connector is simply connected to a free analog sensor port (A1-A8) of the Didactum monitoring system. The connection is made via an RJ-11 cable. After connection, the monitoring system automatically detects the sensor and displays it in the web interface for configuration. Here you can assign a name to the sensor, define the type of connected measuring device, and set individual thresholds for warnings and alarms. This is particularly important for temperature monitoring, humidity monitoring, and early fire detection in the server room, as quick reactions to critical conditions are required here.
Integration into Critical Infrastructure Monitoring
With the 4-20mA connector, not only classic environmental sensors such as smoke detectors, temperature or humidity sensors can be integrated, but also specialized sensors for monitoring critical infrastructure. These include, for example, sensors for leak warning systems, fill level measurement in tanks, differential pressure sensors in air conditioning systems, or sensors for monitoring UPS systems. The collected data is transmitted in real time to the Didactum monitoring system and can be centrally evaluated, visualized, and archived there. This enables seamless remote monitoring of all relevant parameters—even in extensive or hard-to-access company areas.
Typical Application Examples
- Server Room Monitoring: Using the 4-20mA connector, you can integrate analog smoke detectors, temperature and humidity sensors. This ensures reliable early fire detection and temperature monitoring. If defined thresholds are exceeded, a server room alarm is automatically triggered and responsible personnel are notified by email or SMS.
- Monitoring of Critical Infrastructure: In energy supply companies, data centers, or sensitive production areas, sensors for monitoring fill levels, pressure, leaks, or access control can be integrated via the connector. For example, leak warning systems for water-carrying pipes or UPS monitoring for emergency power supply can be implemented.
- Access Control: The 4-20mA connector can also be used to integrate sensors for access control. This allows you to keep track of who is present in critical company areas at all times and to react specifically in the event of an alarm.
- Early Fire Detection: By integrating smoke detectors and temperature sensors, early fire detection is enabled. The combination with other sensors such as humidity or leak sensors further increases operational safety.
- Remote Monitoring: All measurement data can be centrally monitored via the network and, if necessary, forwarded to higher-level management systems. This enables seamless remote monitoring even across multiple locations.
Advantages for Companies
The integration of the Didactum 4-20mA connector into the monitoring system offers numerous advantages:
- Flexibility: A wide variety of sensors can be easily integrated, regardless of the manufacturer.
- Scalability: Monitoring can be expanded at any time with additional sensors and measuring points. The maximum cable length is up to 50 meters.
- Reliability: Central recording and alerting enable immediate detection and reporting of critical conditions such as temperature rise, humidity problems, smoke development, or leaks.
- Automated Alerting: When critical thresholds are reached, alarms are triggered via email, SMS, or SNMP trap.
- Easy Operation: Configuration is conveniently carried out via the German-language web interface. Thresholds, alerting methods, and sensor assignments can be individually adjusted.
The Didactum 4-20mA connector is an indispensable tool for professional server room monitoring and the monitoring of critical infrastructure.
Thanks to the flexible integration of a wide variety of sensors, all relevant parameters such as temperature, humidity, smoke, access, leaks, and UPS monitoring can be reliably and centrally monitored.
The simple installation, convenient configuration, and automated alerting make the 4-20mA connector the ideal solution for companies with the highest demands on security and reliability.
