Reliable AC voltage monitoring for server rooms and enterprise infrastructure
The Didactum AC voltage sensor monitors mains voltage in real time with 1% accuracy, helping protect critical infrastructure from damage caused by voltage fluctuations or power outages. The sensor is a plug-and-play device that plugs directly into a free 230V socket and is connected by cable to an analog port (A1…A8) of a Didactum Monitoring System.
At Didactum, you receive only the version intended for the European market with a European plug (Type C, CEE 7/16 Europlug), so the sensor fits directly into standard 230V sockets in Germany and much of Europe.
Sensor design
The sensor consists of a compact housing (63 × 40 × 67 mm, approx. 125 g) with an integrated Europlug and a permanently attached output cable.
Europlug (Type C)
Integrated mains plug according to CEE 7/16, suitable for European 230V sockets. The sensor is plugged directly into the socket.
Measuring electronics
Detects the applied mains voltage in the range of 0 to 246 V AC with 1% accuracy.
Output cable
Permanently attached USB-to-RJ11-6P4C cable for connection to the monitoring system.
Compact housing
Robust design for permanent use at sockets and power strips.
Pure voltage measurement without current measurement
The sensor measures only the applied AC voltage and is internally equipped with a 140 kΩ resistor at the input. Measurement of flowing current (amperes) is not possible and not intended with this sensor, so it does not provide an ampere reading and is not suitable for power consumption measurement.
For pure mains voltage monitoring, for example to detect power failures, undervoltage, or overvoltage, this is sufficient and represents the sensor’s actual purpose.
Connection and commissioning
Installation is completed in just a few steps and without any additional software.
- Plug the sensor’s included USB-to-RJ11-6P4C cable into a free analog port (A1…A8) of the monitoring system.
- Plug the sensor with its integrated Europlug into a free 230V socket to be monitored.
- The sensor is automatically detected by the system (plug & play, auto-sensing).
- Set thresholds, labels, and alarm rules for the sensor in the web interface.
Important note: To ensure a power outage is reported reliably, the monitored socket must not be protected by a UPS. The monitoring system itself should, however, be connected to a UPS so that notifications can still be sent in the event of an alarm.
Monitoring IEC C13/C14 outputs
If you want to monitor not a household protective-contact socket but an IEC C13 or C14 output, for example on a PDU or a UPS with IEC outlets, the sensor can be connected via a standard adapter from the European plug (Type C, CEE 7/16 Europlug) to IEC C14. Such an adapter is available from electrical retailers and is not included with the sensor.
Application examples
- Power monitoring in server rooms: continuous monitoring of supply voltage for racks and cooling systems
- Data center: monitoring the supply voltage of critical systems for operational reliability
- Telecommunications sites: ensuring constant power supply for base stations
- Industrial power systems: voltage monitoring in automation systems
- UPS systems: monitoring incoming voltage to prevent device failures
- Building management: integration into BMS for early detection of power issues

Knowledge base →Frequently asked questions
Does the sensor fit into a standard German socket?
Yes. At Didactum, you receive only the European version with a Europlug (Type C, CEE 7/16), which fits directly into standard 230V protective-contact sockets in Germany and much of Europe.
Can the sensor also measure power consumption (amperes)?
No. The sensor is designed exclusively for measuring AC voltage and is internally equipped with a 140 kΩ resistor at the input. Current measurement in amperes is not possible with this sensor.
Can I also monitor an IEC C13/C14 socket with the sensor?
Yes, using a standard adapter from Europlug (Type C, CEE 7/16) to IEC C14, available from electrical retailers. This adapter is not included with the sensor.
How is the sensor connected?
The permanently attached USB-to-RJ11-6P4C cable is connected to a free analog port (A1…A8) of the monitoring system, and the sensor itself is plugged into the socket to be monitored with its Europlug. Detection then happens automatically.
Why must the monitored socket not be UPS-protected?
To ensure a power outage is reported reliably, the monitored socket must be directly connected to the mains. The monitoring system itself should be connected to a UPS so it can continue sending notifications in the event of an alarm.
How many sensors of this type can be connected?
The sensor is connected to one of the analog ports (A1…A8). If the available ports are not sufficient, the number can be increased using a sensor expansion unit.
