Reliable Access Control and Load Switching for Server Rooms and Security Technology
The Didactum DIN Rail 12V Relay Switching Module is a central element for monitoring and controlling critical business areas – particularly in the server room as well as in security-relevant zones such as access areas, technical rooms, or sensitive production environments. Via a dry-contact input, the module can be triggered by a Didactum Monitoring System or other controllers with a transistor dry-contact output and then switches electronic locks, sirens, lighting, fans, or other 12V or 230V loads.
The two versatile switching outputs can be used, depending on the application, either as a potential-free 5A relay contact or as an actively powered 12V/0.5A output. This makes the module equally suitable for controlling door locks, sirens, warning lights, or climate technology and allows flexible integration into access control, alarm, and automation systems.
Design of the Relay Switching Module
The module is housed in a compact plastic enclosure (90 × 36 × 34 mm, approx. 200 g) for mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail.
Input Terminal
4-pole screw terminal (pitch 3.5 mm) for connecting dry contacts, e.g. the dry-contact output of a Monitoring System, a push-button, or an access control system.
Two Relay Outputs
6-pole screw terminal (pitch 3.81 mm) with two independent outputs. Each output can optionally be used as a potential-free 5A relay contact or as an actively powered 12V/0.5A output.
Power Supply Input
12V/1A power supply via a DC 1.35 mm socket or alternatively via a 2-pole screw terminal (pitch 3.5 mm).
LED Status Indicator
A red LED on the top of the housing indicates the current switching status of the module.
Since the input is designed for transistor dry contacts, the module can be combined not only with Didactum Monitoring Systems but in principle with any controller that has a matching dry-contact output.
From Dry Contact to Switched Load
When the connected dry-contact output triggers – for example because a Monitoring System reports an alarm or an access control system issues a release – the Relay Switching Module switches the corresponding output. Depending on the configuration, either a potential-free 5A contact is closed, through which an external circuit is switched, or a 12V/0.5A voltage is output directly to the connected load.
Practical example: A card reader at the server room entrance sends a signal to the Monitoring System upon successful authentication, which then triggers the Relay Switching Module via a dry-contact output. The module switches the 5A relay contact and thereby unlocks the electronic door lock for a few seconds – after which the door locks automatically again.
Wiring the Module
The triggering dry contact is connected to the 4-pole input terminal (3.5 mm). The load or loads to be controlled – for example an electronic door lock, a siren, or a warning light – are connected to the 6-pole output terminal (3.81 mm); for each output, the correct polarity and the desired operating mode (relay contact or 12V output) must be observed. The module is powered via the supplied 12V/1A supply, either via the barrel connector (DC 1.35 mm) or via the 2-pole terminal. The maximum cable length between the module and the connected load or controller is up to 200 meters.
Mounting on the DIN Rail
The module is designed for quick mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail in a control cabinet or rack.
- Place the housing against the upper edge of the DIN rail
- Push the housing downward into the rail until it clicks securely into place
- To remove, release the retaining clip with a screwdriver and pull the housing outward
Application Areas of the Relay Switching Module
- Access control and door control: Actuation of electronic locks on doors, racks, or cabinets
- Alarm and notification systems: Activation of sirens, flashing lights, or external alarm systems in the event of an alarm
- Building automation: Control of fans, air conditioning, or lighting when threshold values are exceeded
- IT and telecommunications environments: Secure control of access to racks and technical cabinets
- Industry and production: Control of machines, conveyor belts, or safety equipment
- Emergency and security systems: Automatic unlocking of doors or release of emergency exits when required

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly does the DIN Rail 12V Relay Switching Module do?
The module is triggered via a dry-contact input, for example by a Monitoring System or an access control system, and then switches one of two outputs. These can be used as required either as a potential-free 5A relay contact or as an actively powered 12V/0.5A output to control door locks, sirens, lighting, or other loads.
Can the module also be used without a Didactum Monitoring System?
Yes. The module’s input is designed for transistor dry contacts and can therefore be combined with any controller, push-button, or access control system that has a matching dry-contact output, regardless of the manufacturer.
What is the difference between the two operating modes of the outputs?
Each of the two outputs can be operated either as a potential-free 5A relay contact, through which an external circuit is switched, or as an actively powered 12V/0.5A output that directly supplies a 12V load with power.
How is the module mounted?
The module is designed for mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail. It is placed against the upper edge of the rail and clicked downward into place. To remove it, the retaining clip is released with a screwdriver and the housing is pulled outward.
Is a power supply included in the scope of delivery?
Yes, a matching 12V/1A plug-in power supply is included in the scope of delivery, as are the required connection terminals for input and output.
How can I tell the current switching status of the module?
A red LED on the top of the housing indicates the current status of the module, so that the switching status is always visible at a glance.
