Weatherproof Temperature Monitoring for Outdoor Use
The Didactum Outdoor Temperature Sensor provides reliable temperature monitoring and measurement for outdoor applications. The sensor is weatherproof according to IP65 protection rating and compatible with all network-based monitoring and alarm systems. Its robust construction ensures reliable operation even under extreme weather conditions and provides optimal protection against dust and moisture. High measurement accuracy and long-term stability guarantee precise climate data – even with strong temperature fluctuations or direct sunlight.
This analog plug-and-play temperature sensor was specifically developed for temperature measurement in outdoor or cold areas. It connects to any analog port (A1…A8) of a Didactum monitoring unit, enabling seamless integration into your monitoring system – ideal for monitoring outdoor conditions or controlling temperature-critical areas such as cold storage rooms.
Connection and Installation
The sensor is equipped with an RJ11 connector and connects to the monitoring system via a standard sensor cable. The system automatically detects it and displays it in the web interface.
The temperature sensor is supplied with a 15-meter-long RJ-11 connection cable and can optionally be extended up to 100 meters using an RJ11 cable. Thanks to plug-and-play and automatic sensor detection, installation is particularly easy – high measurement accuracy is maintained even with longer cable lengths. The sensor can be individually configured via the web interface, such as by setting threshold values for alarms; remote querying via network or web as well as integration into SNMP monitoring tools and network management systems like Nagios is also easily possible.
If more analog sensor connections are needed than the monitoring unit provides, the number of available ports can be easily increased with a Didactum Sensor Expansion Unit (8x analog, CAN-Bus).
Measurement Accuracy and Operating Range
The sensor delivers precise and stable measurement values even under extreme outdoor temperatures.
Sensor Application Areas
These application examples illustrate the flexibility of the Didactum Outdoor Temperature Sensor in situations that require precise and reliable temperature monitoring.
- Server rooms and data centers: Essential for monitoring optimal temperature conditions and protecting critical IT hardware from overheating
- Monitoring of industrial plants: Temperature monitoring of machines and processes in manufacturing environments, even in harsh industrial environments thanks to IP65
- HVAC systems: Supports temperature control in building climate systems for efficient heating and cooling as well as lower energy costs
- Cold storage and warehouses: Monitoring temperature in storage rooms for sensitive goods such as food or pharmaceuticals with immediate alarm notification
- Laboratories: Monitoring environmental conditions for experiments, materials and sensitive equipment

More About Analog Sensors
Tutorial: Analog Sensors Part 1
Basics on connection, detection and configuration of analog sensors on Didactum monitoring systems.
To the Tutorial →Frequently Asked Questions
How is the sensor connected?
The sensor is connected directly to one of the analog ports (A1…A8) of a Didactum monitoring unit via its RJ11-6P4C connection cable. It is then automatically detected and displayed in the web interface.
How long is the connection cable and can it be extended?
The sensor is supplied with a 15-meter-long RJ-11 cable. Optionally, the cable length can be extended up to 100 meters to the monitoring unit without affecting measurement accuracy.
How accurate does the sensor measure and in which temperature range can it be used?
The measurement accuracy is ±0.25 °C at room temperature. The sensor is designed for an operating temperature range from −40 °C to +105 °C and is therefore suitable for both cold outdoor areas and warm environments.
Is the sensor really weatherproof?
Yes, the sensor is weatherproof according to IP65 protection rating and is therefore optimally protected against dust and moisture. This ensures reliable operation even with direct sunlight or strong temperature fluctuations.
Can I use multiple of these sensors simultaneously?
Yes, you can connect one additional sensor to each free analog port (A1…A8) of your monitoring unit. If the existing ports are not sufficient, the number of available analog connections can be additionally increased with a Didactum Sensor Expansion Unit (8x analog, CAN-Bus).
Can I integrate the sensor into existing network management systems?
Yes. Via the SNMP-capable web interface of the Didactum monitoring unit, the sensor can be easily integrated into common network management systems such as Nagios as well as into other SNMP monitoring tools.
