Immediate On-Site Acoustic and Visual Alarm
The Didactum alarm siren with flashing light is specially designed for use in modern monitoring systems and plays a central role in protecting sensitive IT infrastructure and critical business areas. It is connected directly to a 12V DC relay output (0.25 A) of a Didactum monitoring system and, when an alarm event occurs - triggered for example by a water sensor, smoke detector, temperature sensor, or access control system - immediately emits a loud acoustic alarm and a highly visible flashing light signal.
Server rooms are among the most sensitive areas in a company: a disruption or failure - for example due to fire, water damage, rising temperature, intrusion, or power outage - can have serious consequences. Thanks to the combination of acoustic alarm and flashing light, all people are reliably warned even in noisy or large areas, allowing IT managers, security staff, or facility managers to respond quickly and take countermeasures.
Alarm Siren Construction
The siren is deliberately simple and robust so that it operates reliably and with minimal maintenance.
The housing is made of red and white ABS plastic and combines both the acoustic signal element and the red flashing light in a compact unit measuring 70 × 36 × 56 mm. Inside, a sound generator produces the alarm tone at a frequency of 3.8 kHz with a sound pressure level of 108 dB, while the red flashing light provides additional visual warning at a frequency of 2.5 Hz (150 flashes per minute). The siren is connected directly to the 12V DC relay output of the monitoring system via a permanently attached two-wire connection cable - no external power supply is required. The housing is designed for wall mounting and, thanks to its IP54 protection rating, is resistant to dust and splashing water.
Control via Relay Output
The alarm siren is connected via the included connection cable directly to a 12V DC relay output (0.25 A) of the monitoring system. As soon as a connected sensor - such as a water sensor, smoke detector, temperature sensor, or access control system - reports an alarm event, the monitoring system switches the corresponding relay and activates the siren. The siren then emits both the acoustic alarm and the flashing light signal until the event is cleared or the configured alarm duration has expired. Thanks to the standardized 12V DC supply and the low power consumption of 250 mA, the siren is also compatible with third-party controllers and is therefore suitable for retrofitting existing security and monitoring solutions.
Setup in the Web Interface
The siren is activated conveniently through the web interface of the monitoring system.
- Log in to the monitoring system's web interface
- In the system tree, open the "Power 12V 0.25A" section and select the desired relay (default: "Power-1" or "Power-2")
- Rename the relay if needed, define the desired default state, and set the pulse duration in seconds for how long the siren should remain active during an alarm
- Link the configured relay to the desired sensor alarm rules so it switches automatically when an alarm event occurs
Versatile Use in Critical Business Areas
Not only in server rooms, but also in many other areas, the alarm siren is an indispensable part of the security infrastructure.
Data Centers
Immediate warning of overheating, fire, water damage, or unauthorized access.
Technical Rooms & Industrial Facilities
Real-time alerting in case of technical faults, leaks, or machine failures.
Production Sites
Warning in case of machine faults, temperature deviations, or gas leaks.
Storage & Logistics Areas
Protection against intrusion, theft, or environmental damage through deterrent alarm signaling.
Laboratories
Warning in case of hazardous substance leakage, power failure, or technical defects.
Building Management / HVAC
Use in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems when defined thresholds are exceeded.
Practical Use Cases
Server room: A company installs various sensors (temperature, humidity, smoke, access). As soon as a sensor reports a critical deviation, the alarm siren is activated via the relay - the loud acoustic alarm and flashing light immediately draw attention to the issue, even outside regular business hours.
Production hall: In the event of machine faults or hazardous substance leakage, all employees are warned quickly by the siren. Connection to the central fault alarm allows targeted alerting of individual hall sections.
Warehouse and logistics: As part of the intrusion alarm system, the siren emits a loud alarm in the event of unauthorized access or attempted theft and deters potential intruders.
Laboratory and research: Combined with sensors for gas leakage, temperature, or humidity, the siren immediately warns everyone in the affected area in an emergency so they can move to safety.
Installation and Mounting
Installing the alarm siren is straightforward and user-friendly.
- Determine the mounting location: for best results, choose a central position in the server room or monitored area
- Mount the siren on the wall
- Connect the permanently attached cable to the 12V DC relay output (0.25 A) of the monitoring system
- Configure the relay in the web interface and link it to the desired alarm rules
- For larger or irregularly shaped rooms: combine multiple sirens to ensure full-area alarm coverage

To the tutorial →Frequently Asked Questions
How is the alarm siren connected?
The siren is connected directly to a 12V DC relay output (0.25 A) of the Didactum monitoring system via the permanently attached cable. No additional external power supply is required.
How do I activate the siren for a specific alarm event?
In the monitoring system's web interface, select the corresponding relay under "Power 12V 0.25A", rename it, and assign the desired pulse duration. Then link the relay to any sensor alarm rules so the siren is activated automatically.
Can the siren also be used with systems from other manufacturers?
Yes. Thanks to standardized 12V DC control, the siren is also compatible with third-party controllers and relay outputs, making it suitable for retrofitting existing security and monitoring solutions.
How loud is the siren and what is the flashing light for?
The siren reaches a sound pressure level of 108 dB at a tone frequency of 3.8 kHz and combines this with a red flashing light that blinks at 2.5 Hz (150 flashes per minute). This makes it suitable for immediate warning even in noisy or large areas.
Is the siren suitable for outdoor use?
The robust ABS housing is protected against dust and splashing water according to IP54 and is designed for an operating temperature range of -50 °C to +105 °C. It is therefore also suitable for harsh environments and use outside climate-controlled rooms.
Can I use multiple sirens at the same time?
Yes. In larger or irregularly shaped rooms, multiple sirens can be combined on different relay outputs of the monitoring system to ensure full-area alarm coverage.
