Basic Protection Monitoring System 50T: Complete basic monitoring for server rooms and technical cabinets
This Didactum bundle combines the compact Monitoring System 50T with a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a water sensor, and a smoke sensor to create an immediately ready-to-use basic monitoring solution. It simultaneously covers the four most common risks in server rooms, technical cabinets, and storage rooms: overheating, unfavorable room climate, water ingress, and fire development – all centrally detected and automatically alarmed.
As a compact desktop control unit, the Monitoring System 50T forms the basis of the bundle: It is connected to the network via Ethernet, is fully configurable via web browser, and requires no additional software. Temperature, humidity, water, and smoke sensors are connected directly to the four analog ports and are automatically detected thanks to AutoSense, so all four sensors are immediately available in the web interface after connection.
As your needs grow, this bundle grows with you: Through both relay outputs and the 50T CAN bus, additional alarm devices such as a siren with flashing light or additional sensor expansion units can be added at any time – without replacing the central unit.
This bundle includes:
Five coordinated Didactum products that together provide complete basic monitoring for climate, water, and fire.
Didactum 50T
The compact monitoring and alarm unit that collects all sensors, evaluates them, and automatically issues alarms.
Temperature sensor
Precise temperature monitoring for early detection of overheating.
Humidity sensor
Monitors relative humidity to prevent condensation and moisture damage.
Water sensor
Detects escaping liquid or water leaks on the floor reliably and early.
Smoke sensor
Detects smoke development early and warns of a possible fire hazard.
Didactum Monitoring System 50T
The Didactum Monitoring System 50T is the central control unit of the bundle and a compact, cost-efficient monitoring solution for server rooms, IT racks, and technical systems. As a self-sufficient desktop unit, it continuously records all connected sensors and reports anomalies in real time, long before they result in an expensive failure, water damage, or even a fire. With 4 analog ports, one CAN bus port, as well as 2 potential-free inputs and 2 relay outputs (12V / 0.25A), the 50T can also be used as an I/O controller for sirens, pumps, or fans. The system is equipped with Ethernet (100 Mbit/s) and can be seamlessly integrated into monitoring environments such as Zabbix, PRTG, or Nagios thanks to SNMP, Modbus TCP/IP, and Syslog.
Temperature sensor
The Didactum temperature sensor is used for precise temperature monitoring and temperature measurement in the technical cabinet or server room. The sensor is connected to an analog port of the 50T via RJ11 plug and automatically detected. It can then be freely named in the web interface and assigned custom threshold values (Lower Critical, Lower Warning, Normal, Upper Warning, Upper Critical), so that automatic alarm notifications are triggered in the event of a critical temperature.
Humidity sensor
The Didactum humidity sensor measures the relative humidity in the server room, technical cabinet, or storage area and provides early warning of condensation risks, mold formation, or climate-related damage to equipment. The sensor is connected to a free analog port of the 50T via RJ11 plug and automatically detected. As with the temperature sensor, individual threshold values can be defined in the web interface, and the 50T will automatically alarm when these are exceeded or undershot.
Water sensor
The Didactum water sensor detects escaping liquid directly on the floor – for example in the event of an air-conditioning leak, a burst pipe, or leaking cooling water – and reports this immediately to the 50T. The sensor is connected to a free analog port of the 50T via RJ11 plug and automatically detected. As soon as moisture is detected at the sensor contacts, the 50T immediately triggers an alarm so that larger water damage can be prevented early.
Smoke sensor
The Didactum smoke sensor detects smoke development in the server room or technical cabinet at an early stage and immediately reports a possible fire hazard to the 50T. The sensor is connected to the last free analog port of the 50T via RJ11 plug and automatically detected. This means that, in addition to climate and water monitoring, this bundle also covers early warnings for smoke and fire events so that countermeasures can be initiated as quickly as possible.
Note: With the smoke sensor, all 4 analog ports of the 50T in the bundle are occupied (temperature, humidity, water, smoke). Both relay outputs and the CAN bus port remain fully available for further expansion.
Comprehensive sensor integration for the bundle
The Monitoring System 50T supports up to 100 sensors, contacts, and relays simultaneously – 4 analog ports and 2 relay outputs are available directly on the device, and this number can be expanded via the CAN bus. In the basic protection bundle, all 4 analog ports are already occupied by temperature, humidity, water, and smoke sensors. Both relay outputs remain free for alarm devices such as a siren with flashing light or for actuators such as pumps and fans.
Temperature
Already included in the bundle: protection against overheating in racks and server rooms.
Humidity
Already included in the bundle: detection of condensation risks and unfavorable room climate.
Water ingress
Already included in the bundle: early detection of leaks and water damage on the floor.
Smoke
Already included in the bundle: early warning of smoke development and possible fire hazard.
Thanks to both free relay outputs and the CAN bus port, the bundle can be expanded at any time with additional alarm devices such as a siren with flashing light or additional sensor expansion units.
Real-time monitoring and automated alarming
The Monitoring System 50T reacts immediately to any change in state of the connected sensors. When a threshold is exceeded – for example critical temperature, excessively high humidity, detected water, or smoke – the system automatically sends email notifications, SMS, or SNMP traps, even outside business hours or without constant monitoring of the web interface. Integration into monitoring software such as Zabbix, PRTG, or Nagios is straightforward thanks to common network protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, FTP, SNMP, Syslog, DHCP).
Practical example: The smoke sensor reports unusual smoke development in the server room outside business hours. The 50T immediately sends an SMS to the responsible technician, logs the event with a timestamp, and can optionally trigger a connected alarm device – so a possible fire hazard is noticed and documented immediately.
Web-based control & intelligent automation
The intuitive web interface allows easy management of all sensors as well as alarms and scenarios – right from the moment the bundle is put into operation.
- Smoke detected → send SMS to administrator, switch relay
- Water detected → send email notification, send SNMP trap
- Temperature > 30 °C → notify facility team
- Humidity > 70 % RH → notify facility team
- Sensor value normalizes → automatic alarm acknowledgment
The Monitoring System 50T can also be used as an I/O controller for pumps, fans, lighting, or additional alarm devices – ideal for compact monitoring solutions without permanent staff presence.
Full control
Manage temperature, humidity, water ingress, and smoke together, turn them into actionable alarms, and configure integrations – all through an intuitive, web-based interface.
- Monitor the real-time status of all four sensors together
- Set and adjust individual thresholds for each sensor
- Create automated actions based on defined conditions
- Send email, Telegram, HTTP request, SNMP, or other notifications
- Visualize trends and logs for better decision-making
- Manage users, permissions, and access securely
Scalable, reliable, and future-proof
The Monitoring System 50T in the bundle is equipped with 100 Mbit/s Ethernet. The system supports up to 700 elements (sensors, contacts, triggers, timers, logic schemes, notifications). All 4 analog ports of the central unit are already occupied in the basic protection bundle, while both relay outputs and the CAN bus port remain completely free. Using CAN expansion units and daisy-chaining, the number of sensors can be expanded to more than 256 sensors if needed. Regular firmware updates ensure long-term use. Made in EU – German support included.
Connect CAN devices
The Monitoring System 50T has a CAN bus port to which up to 10 additional CAN devices can be connected in a chain – for example additional sensor expansion units (8 analog ports per unit) or dry-contact expansions for potential-free contacts. Since all 4 analog ports are already occupied in the basic protection bundle, the CAN bus port is the central way to add further sensors to the system. With daisy-chaining, a total cable length of up to 320 m can be achieved, allowing larger environments to be monitored centrally. An additional CAN power supply (12V/1A) is only required if the number of CAN devices in the chain exceeds 12 units.

What is included in this bundle?
The bundle includes the Didactum Monitoring System 50T as the central monitoring unit, a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a water sensor, and a smoke sensor. Together they form complete basic monitoring for climate, water, and fire.
How is the smoke sensor connected?
The smoke sensor is connected to the last free analog port of the 50T via RJ11 cable and automatically detected thanks to AutoSense. When smoke is detected, the 50T immediately triggers an alarm.
How are the temperature, humidity, and water sensors installed?
All three sensors are connected to an analog port of the 50T via RJ11 cable. Thanks to AutoSense, they are automatically detected and can then be named in the web interface and configured with individual threshold values.
Can I expand the bundle with additional sensors?
Since all 4 analog ports are already occupied in the basic protection bundle, expansion is done via the CAN bus port, to which additional sensor expansion units or dry-contact modules can be connected. Both relay outputs are also free and can be used, for example, for an alarm siren with flashing light or a pump.
Can the bundle be integrated into existing IT infrastructures?
Yes, the Didactum Monitoring System 50T is specifically designed for integration into professional IT environments. It supports SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and Modbus TCP/IP, can be integrated into common monitoring platforms such as Nagios, PRTG, or Zabbix, and includes a REST API for custom integrations.
Does this bundle replace a certified fire alarm system?
No. The smoke sensor is intended for early monitoring and alarming in IT and facility environments, but it does not replace a standards-compliant, certified fire alarm system under the applicable regulations. It should be understood as an additional early warning system.
