Functionality and Application Areas
The IP Relay HWg-ER02b connects a full RS-232/485 serial port (9-pin), two digital inputs (for dry contacts or 5–20 V DC), and two digital outputs (NO/NC relays, 230V/16A) to a LAN.
The serial port can be used in Windows as a Virtual Serial Port (VSP) via the free HW VSP3 software, allowing up to 100 remote serial ports to be connected to one PC. The digital inputs and outputs can be controlled via a web interface or the Modbus/TCP protocol, enabling integration into SCADA systems.
In Box-2-Box mode, two IP Relay HWg-ER02b devices can be connected over the LAN to tunnel serial data as well as digital inputs/outputs. This extends the range of RS-232/485 interfaces and digital signals without additional cabling.

- 2x digital outputs (NO/NC relays) with a switching capacity of up to 230V/16A.
- M2M communication protocols: HTTP, Telnet, TCP Server, TCP Client/Server, Modbus/TCP.
- Configuration via integrated web server or Telnet.
The free HW VSP3 software enables integration of the serial port as a virtual COM port in Windows (including NT service and x64 systems). For developers, the HWg-SDK provides programming examples in languages such as C++, C#, PHP, Java, and more for rapid integration into custom applications. Compatibility with third-party software is ensured via protocols such as Modbus/TCP and RFC2217.
In Box-2-Box mode, serial data and digital signals can be synchronized over the network, ideal for applications with spatially separated systems. Configuration is intuitive via the web interface, allowing quick adjustment of parameters such as IP address, baud rate, or trigger conditions.
