Secure Industrial I/O with PoE and Telco -48V Power Options
The HW group Damocles2 2404 is an industrial I/O device for controlling digital inputs and outputs over LAN. It provides 24 digital inputs (DI) for dry-contact detectors, all equipped with S0 pulse counters with memory to connect water, gas, electricity, or other meters. Additionally, the Damocles2 2404 controls 4 digital relay outputs (DO).
Configuration is performed via an integrated web server. For remote monitoring over the internet, a SensDesk Technology portal in combination with the SensDesk Mobile App for iOS and Android is suitable. Thanks to the three power supply options—9–30 V DC, -48 V, and PoE—the Damocles2 2404 can be operated in a wide range of deployment scenarios. The device uses secure M2M protocols (HTTPS, IPv6, SNMPv3) and supports over 50 SNMP and SCADA applications; the MQTT protocol additionally enables connection to IoT solutions.

- UPS monitoring
- Security and surveillance systems
- Alarm indication
- Energy consumption measurement
- Connection of external inputs to SCADA systems
Practical Example: In a large technical room with many consumers, the Damocles2 2404 simultaneously monitors multiple electricity, gas, and water meters via S0 pulse counting across the 24 digital inputs, as well as various smoke, motion, and door contact detectors. Thanks to PoE power supply, no separate power supply needs to be installed at the mounting location. When a critical condition is detected, the device automatically switches one of the four relay outputs to activate an alarm signal and simultaneously sends an e-mail and an SNMP trap to system monitoring.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the HW group Damocles2 2404 and what is it used for?
The Damocles2 2404 is a LAN-based I/O device with 24 digital inputs and 4 relay outputs that can be remotely controlled via the integrated web server or a SensDesk portal. It is particularly suitable for applications with very many I/O points, such as remote monitoring of large systems, smart buildings, UPS monitoring, and energy consumption measurement.
What is the difference between the two options?
"Damocles2 2404" is the industrial single device without accessories. "Damocles2 2404 Set" is the recommended starter package and additionally includes a matching power supply. The desired variant is selected above the shopping cart.
How many digital inputs and outputs can be connected?
The Damocles2 2404 provides 24 digital inputs (I1–I24) with pulse counting function and 4 relay outputs (OUT1–OUT4). Additionally, up to 8 virtual digital outputs (VDO) can be used to remotely control relays of other HWg devices on the network.
What power supply options does the device offer?
The Damocles2 2404 can be powered either via 9–30 V DC (barrel jack or terminal block), via a terminal block with Telco standard -48 V DC, or directly via Power over Ethernet (PoE) through the Ethernet port. A matching power supply is included only in the Set package; for the single device it must be obtained separately.
What are virtual digital outputs (VDO)?
Virtual digital outputs are up to 8 outputs that can be assigned to physical relay outputs of other Damocles2 or Poseidon2 devices on the same LAN. This allows an alert on the Damocles2 2404 to directly trigger a relay on a remote device (M2M communication, Box2Box).
How are SMS or call alerts sent?
The Damocles2 2404 does not have its own GSM/LTE modem. SMS and call alerts ("SMS + Ring") are possible either via the HWg-Trigger software with an external GSM modem or via an HWg-SMS-GW3 gateway on the same LAN.
What distinguishes the Damocles2 2404 from the other Damocles2 models?
Compared to the Damocles2 MINI (4 DI, 2 DO) and the Damocles2 1208 (12 DI, 8 open-collector DO), the Damocles2 2404 offers the highest number of digital inputs in the series with 24 DI, 4 classic relay outputs, and as the only model additionally includes a serial RS-232 interface and the option of PoE or -48V power supply.
How many records does the internal logger store?
The integrated logger stores more than 250,000 records of the digital inputs and outputs (DI, DO).
What security features does the device offer?
The Damocles2 2404 supports HTTPS-encrypted configuration, SNMP v1, partially v2, and v3, IPv6, and an advanced IP filter for access restriction.
