The NB-IoT device with two remotely controlled relay outputs
The HW group NB-2xOut features two latching relay outputs (DO, Digital Output) that can be conveniently controlled via a remote maintenance portal, such as HWg-cloud.com or another portal based on SensDesk technology. Each output can be switched manually via the portal’s web interface or event-driven, for example when another device or sensor triggers an alarm.
This makes the NB-2xOut ideal whenever a system state needs to be indicated physically or a system needs to be switched: for example switching on a light at the reception when a temperature or water leakage problem occurs in the technical room. Data transmission takes place via the NB-IoT mobile network (NarrowBand IoT), even where no LAN or WLAN infrastructure is available.
Device and portal come from HW group and are seamlessly matched to each other. Setup is done with just a few clicks; the device is added to the portal via remote connection, and firmware updates and configuration can also be performed remotely via the portal.
Please note: The NB-2xOut is an IoT control device that requires a portal based on SensDesk technology for operation. As a preconfigured standard solution, the manufacturer provides a free portal with limited functionality (HWg-cloud.com); advanced features are available through paid portals.
What can be switched with the NB-2xOut
The two outputs switch connected loads either manually via the portal or automatically based on defined conditions.
Manual remote control
The outputs can be switched in the portal on the respective output page, the device page or the output overview.
Event-driven automation
Switching operations are triggered by alarms from other devices or sensors in the portal.
Heating control (thermostat mode)
Automatic switching on and off of heaters based on temperature values.
Pump control
For example pumping water into a tank as soon as the fill level drops.
Warning lights and signal horn
Physical signalling of a fault, for example by a warning light or an acoustic signal.
How the NB-2xOut is built
The device is a compact metal housing that combines relay outputs, radio module and power supply in one unit.
Metal housing
The robust metal housing is designed for industrial environments and achieves protection class IP40. It can be placed on a table, mounted on a wall or fitted to a DIN rail or into a rack with the appropriate accessories.
Two latching relay outputs (DO)
The two relays retain their switching state and can be controlled independently of each other. According to the manufacturer they are designed for loads up to 120 V AC or 60 V DC at 500 mA; this limit must not be exceeded when connecting.
Status indicator per relay
An indicator light signals the switching state directly on the device: if the LED is lit, the corresponding relay is closed.
NB-IoT radio module with SIM card
The connection to the portal runs via the NB-IoT mobile network. In the standard version an NB-IoT SIM card with 3 years prepaid service is already included.
Power supply: battery or 5 V power adapter
The device is operated with an internal battery or via an external 5 V power supply connection (barrel connector). According to the manufacturer the battery provides a runtime of up to three years.
Hash label
The device has a label with the device hash, which is used to add the device in the portal.
Mobile connectivity without your own network infrastructure
With NarrowBand IoT the NB-2xOut offers energy-efficient and secure data transmission even for remote locations.
- Standard version (“subscribed”) is supplied with an NB-IoT SIM card with 3 years prepaid service from HW group
- Connectivity is provided by Vodafone; the device can be used in most countries
- Alternatively a third-party NB-IoT SIM card can be used; LTE cards are not compatible
- With your own SIM card data can be delivered to a self-hosted SensDesk installation, recommended from around 100 devices

Control and management via SensDesk technology
The portal centralises device management, remote updates, charts and alarming.
Free portal
HWg-cloud.com is provided as a preconfigured standard option with limited functionality, but offers email alarms and basic remote management of the device; according to the product page for up to 20 devices.
Paid portals
Several providers are available, including SensDesk.com with various subscription plans. The device can be moved between portals.
SMS and voice call alarms
With the paid portal services alarms are also reported by SMS or voice call to any mobile phones.
Charts & PDF reports
Historical data can be displayed in charts (including MultiGraphs), evaluated as PDF reports and exported to MS Excel for reports.
Open API
All values are available via open interfaces such as XML and SNMP for further processing, for example in SCADA systems.
Mobile app
The SensDesk Mobile app enables remote monitoring and configuration directly on the smartphone.
Switching and notifying according to rules
Outputs can be linked to conditions so that the device reacts without operator intervention.
- Event-driven switching, for example pump on at low water level or warning light on in the event of a security alarm

Battery operation or power adapter
The NB-2xOut runs optionally with an internal, non-rechargeable battery or with an external 5 V power adapter. According to the manufacturer the battery lasts up to three years; the actual runtime depends on usage and switching intervals. The standard version includes a 5 V power adapter for mains operation.

Commissioning in a few steps
Setup of the NB-2xOut is done entirely via the portal.
- Connect the device to the power supply or insert the battery
- Connect the loads to be switched to the relay outputs; observe the permissible switching load
- Add the device in the SensDesk portal by entering the device hash
- Test the outputs manually in the portal
- Optional: set up conditions so that the outputs react automatically to alarms from other devices or sensors
- Set up notifications for the desired recipients
